Abstract

Horticultural products of tomatoes and papayas are very susceptible to the risk of physical damage, weight loss and unsold so that they have the potential to cause losses. Potential losses can be reduced by identifying the risks that occur and mitigating the risks. This study aims to analyze the distribution risk and its mitigation in tomato and papaya horticultural products. Respondents were selected purposively and snowball sampling. Respondents identified were 40 respondents consisting of 17 retail respondents, 7 wholesale traders in the wholesale market, 7 middlemen respondents, and 9 farmers respondents. The results showed that the highest risk was at the farmer level and the smallest at the middleman level. Risk mapping consists of (1) weight loss at the level of farmers, middlemen, retailers and wholesalers in the wholesale market, respectively, having very low risk (Negligible) to moderate risk (Undesirable); (2) physical damage at the level of farmers, retailers, wholesalers in the wholesale market, farmers and middlemen respectively have very low to low risk categories; (3) unsold at the level of middlemen, farmers, retailers and wholesalers in the wholesale market, respectively, including the category of very low risk to moderate risk. Mitigation measures were carried out on weight loss in the form of making sorting warehouses, using tarpaulins for roofs, wrapping vegetables with newspapers. Mitigation actions for the risk of physical damage are carried out by applying fertilizers and pesticides as needed, making damage dependent agreements, supervising the sorting and picking process, wrapping vegetables with newspapers, closing stall with tarpaulins, and sending vegetables in the afternoon/evening. Mitigation actions for unsold risk are predicting demand trends, making purchase plans according to previous sales, and providing stock availability information. Keywords: ERM, distribution risk, weight loss, physical damage, mitigation

Abstract

Farmers distribute curcuma through several marketing agencies to the sringanis plantation processing industry. It impacts farmers' income, so the research aims to determine the pattern of Curcuma marketing channels as a raw material for the medicinal plant processing industry, the value of efficiency indicators, and the level of efficiency of each marketing channel—methods of data collection using purposive sampling and snowball sampling. Respondents are farmers, middlemen, and managers of the sringanis plantation processing industry. The analytical approach uses quantitative analysis, namely analysis of marketing channels, marketing margins, farmer share, and marketing efficiency. The results showed that there were two patterns of Curcuma marketing channels, namely marketing Channel I, which included farmers and the sringanis plantation processing industry, and marketing Channel II which had farmers, intermediaries, wholesalers, and the sringanis processing industry. The marketing functions performed by all marketing agencies are exchange functions, physical functions, and facility functions. Farmer share obtained by marketing Channel I is more significant than Channel II, so marketing Channel I is more efficient than Channel II. The implication that farmers and the sringanis garden industry can apply is to enter into a cooperation contract where every profit and risk obtained has been adjusted by mutual agreement. Distance constraints for farmers who use marketing Channel II can be overcome by selling a portion of Curcuma produce to intermediaries with a proportion of 60%, and the remaining 30% is sold directly to the sringanis plantation processing industry.

Abstract

Salak pondoh has profitable agribusiness opportunities. The high level of population and tourists in Bogor City gave rise to many modern markets and traditional markets that provide fruits including pondoh salak. However, the characteristics of salak fruit that are easily damaged often in the process of distributing goods from producers to consumers there is an activity that triggers uncertainty. The quantity of actors involved in the marketing process can affect the marketing behavior of each marketing actor, so the research objective is to analyze market behavior by studying the process of price formation, the marketing chain, and the marketing function. The location selection was carried out purposively, namely Bogor Market and Jambu Dua Market which are markets that are mostly visited by the people of Bogor. The total number of respondents was 32 people consisting of 6 retailers, 5 collectors, and 21 farmers. The behavior of the pondoh salak market was analyzed using qualitative methods, namely the analysis of pricing practices, selling and buying practices of products from each marketer. Pricing at the farm level is determined by the next marketing agency, namely collecting traders, while at the trader level, pricing is carried out independently based on price information from the market. There is one marketing channel that is formed, namely farmers who sell to village collectors, village collectors sell to wholesalers, namely the Kramat Jati Market, wholesalers sell to Bogor City retailers and then sell to final consumers.
