Abstract

Non-Timber Forest Products ( NTFPs) are one of the forest resources that have comparative advantages and are in direct contact with communities around the forest. NTFPs in East Nusa Tenggara Province, which has potential is honey derived from the forest honey bee Apis dorsata. This research was conducted by observation, and interviews. Forest Bees (Apis dorsata) in Nenas village always keep the same nest tree for nenas every year or period. In Nenas village there are 7 trees with 5 active nest trees and 2 inactive nest trees, which are the breeding place for Apis dorsata forest honey bees, with tree species such as Banyan (Ficus benjamin), Angkai (Albizzia chinensis), Bonak (Tetrameles nudiflora), Eucalyptus (Melaleuca leucadendra), and Cassowary (Casuarina). With a dense canopy cover of about 80% and with an average tree height of 29 m and a nest height of about 20 m, with a tree diameter of 70-150 cm, the number of clones / nest trees of 10-20. Forest beehive trees at the study site are at an altitude (elevation) of 1,285-2,500 mdpl, and a slope level of 60%, with a humid climate that rains 2000-3000 mm / year. With a climate of 140C-290C and at extreme conditions at a temperature of 90C. Conditions of temperature and rainfall greatly affect the quality of food from forest honey bees the harvesting process is still very traditional using climbing and smoke methods and traditional ceremonies which are carried out at night. Nenas Village is still included in a protected forest area managed by the Forestry Service and there is no permit for traditional honey bee to take the honey because the Apis dorsata forest honey bee tree is community property or private property which is a relic from ancient times. The age range of respondents is 30-70 years, with the highest education are high school and university graduated, and local people work as farmers and ranchers.

Abstract

Land that is left empty without any utilization will experience degradation, which is a process of decreasing land productivity, both temporary and permanent, and in other definitions it is often referred to as unproductive land or idle land that is left uncultivated and generally overgrown with shrubs. The condition of land in Kesetnana Village is mostly left empty or abandoned so that it is overgrown with shrubs. These problems need to be overcome, one of which is rehabilitating land with the Community Forest program. In the community forest program, to support the success of its development, there needs to be community involvement based on the purpose of obtaining benefits. If the community understands the meaning and purpose of their involvement, it will greatly affect their perception. The purpose of this study was to determine community perceptions and actions towards the implementation of the Community Forest program in Kesetnana Village, South Mollo District, South Central Timor Regency. The sample determination in this study used a census technique with a total sample size of 56 households. The measurement scale used is the Likert scale model. The results showed that the community's perception of the implementation of the community forest program in Kesetnana Village was high, with an overall average value of 28.83 with a category value of 2.62 with a very agreeing attitude. The community believes that the existence of community forests will have a good effect on the land utilized for community forests, which among other things can improve land fertility and increase land productivity. Community actions towards the implementation of the community forest program in Kesetnana Village include land preparation, seeding and planting.

Abstract

Kupang City is experiencing a decline in environmental quality. This decline in environmental quality is caused by various factors such as an increase in land conversion to built-up land. The effect of decreasing environmental quality has an impact on various aspects of the urban spatial ecosystem. The high increase in land conversion causes a reduction in the quantity of green open space and gives rise to environmental problems such as increasing urban space temperatures and microclimate instability and so on. The local government, through policies, uses various alternatives to maintain the environmental stability of Kupang City, one of which is by providing city greening, including planting green lane vegetation using a stem planting system since 2018. This research aims to determine the success rate of the Kupang City road planting program. The data collected consisted of primary and secondary data using the spatial descriptive analysis method which was carried out from July to November 2022. Obstacles faced in managing the roadside planting program include the unmet need for green open space according to Kupang city area standards. In addition, if seen from The distribution of vegetation along the road, the percentage of plant growth of 64.96% is in the poor category, while the percentage of plant health is 50.54% in the low category. The results of the research show that the success of the Kupang City roadway planting program is in the medium category by achieving a total score of 70. The success rate of Kupang City roadway planting is Medium (the results of program implementation are accepted with the note that improvements need to be made until they reach a total value of > 80). Actions that need to be taken to overcome the obstacles experienced in planting road verges, especially regarding the condition of road vegetation in Kupang City, include the provision of regular replanting, pruning and maintenance activities.

Abstract

The community's decision to participate or not in an activity is influenced by subjective factors such as the community's own perception of the activity (Ngakan, 2006). The importance of community perceptions about the purpose and benefits of community forestry as a system in forestry to be managed properly and correctly so as to achieve goals in preserving and prospering the community (Heryatna et al., 2015). The Baolangu Village Community Forest Utilization Business Permit was granted to the Belek Lerek Forest Farmer Group Association consisting of 5 forest farmer groups covering an area of + 150 Ha in the Protected Forest area in Baolangu Village. Of the 5 forest farmer groups formed, 1 forest farmer group remains active but in general the community continues to manage their Community Forest land. The purpose of this study was to determine the positive perceptions of the community about Community Forests that influence community participation in Community Forest management. The technique of taking respondents in this study used the census method, namely taking one population group as a whole sample and using a structured questionnaire as a data collection tool with a total of 77 respondents. The measurement scale used is the Likert scale model. The results showed that community participation of the Belek Lerek Forest Farmer Group Association in the implementation stage of the Community Forest was high (58.77%), and the utilization stage was high (61.29%), because the community managed their respective Community Forest areas by planting plantation crops, food and horticulture, the results of which were not only for consumption but also for sale. This is influenced by the community's positive perception of the Baolangu Village Community Forest, where the IUPHKm provides certainty of access rights to the community to participate in managing the forest area, the existence of the Community Forest can increase household income and community empowerment carried out by related institutions such as KPH Lembata is running well.

Abstract

Forests play an important role in maintaining the stability of the environment, the balance of flora and fauna ecosystems, and also as a source of water system support. The Roko Raka Matalumbu Protected Forest in Reda Pada Village is very rampant in encroachment activities carried out by the surrounding community to be used as plantation land, agriculture, timber harvesting and other forms of utilization. The negative impact of encroachment is one of the changes in the structure of vegetation composition and also to the status of forest regeneration. This study aims to analyze the composition structure and regeneration status in the Roko Raka protected forest area. The methods used in this research are qualitative and quantitative methods. Quantitative data was obtained from vegetation analysis, while qualitative data collection was carried out in four ways namely; literature study, interviews, observation and documentation. The results of vegetation analysis of tree growth rates amounted to 0.31 individuals / ha, poles amounted to 1 individual / ha, saplings amounted to 0.76 individuals / ha, and seedlings amounted to 68 individuals / ha. The horizontal structure in this protected forest area is dominated by the 30-40 cm diameter age class and the vertical structure is dominated by stratum B (20-30 cm). The Regeneration Status of the Roko Raka Protected Forest based on tree species has the status of "No regeneration". Based on the results of interviews with the Government and the Community, it is known that forest encroachment by the community is the main reason for the decline in the structure and composition of the Roko Raka Protection Forest.
