Abstract

Budikdamber has emerged as a practical food-production strategy for urban areas with limited land resources, making it necessary to examine how stocking density influences the growth performance and survival of African catfish (Clarias gariepinus) cultured under this system. This study was conducted from June to August 2024 at the Aquaculture Field Laboratory, Universitas Nusa Cendana. The experiment employed a completely randomized design (CRD) consisting of three treatments with three replicates each: A (20 fish per container), B (30 fish per container), and C (40 fish per container). The evaluated parameters included survival rate, weight gain, and absolute length growth. The statistical analysis indicated that stocking density had a significant effect on survival (P<0.05), with treatment A achieving the highest survival rate of 100%. In contrast, no significant differences were detected for weight and length growth among treatments (P>0,05), although lower densities tended to support slightly better growth. Overall, the budikdamber system maintained stable water quality and supported satisfactory fish performance when stocking density was managed appropriately.

Abstract

Rote Ndao Regency is one of the regions with the highest seaweed production in East Nusa Tenggara Province (NTT). This potential not only plays an important role in supporting the coastal economy, but also has great opportunities to improve the nutritional status and living standards of the people in the region. Seaweed is known as a highly nutritious food source that is beneficial to health. However, seaweed consumption levels are still low and there is a lack of innovation in seaweed processing. Therefore, this activity aims to increase community knowledge and awareness of the nutritional benefits of macroalgae and to develop innovative macroalgae-based processed products that have economic added value. This activity is divided into three stages. The first stage, preparation, was carried out to identify the problems faced by the community and determine the appropriate solutions. The second stage was the implementation of activities based on the results of the identification, including three main activities, namely counseling on the nutritional value of macroalgae, training on product diversification, and promotional counseling through online media. The entire series of activities ran well and received high enthusiasm from the participants. In addition, there has been an increase in community knowledge and skills in utilizing macroalgae as a source of nutrition and in making cendol and seaweed ice cream. The survey results show that 87.5% of the community is very satisfied with this community service activity. It is hoped that this activity can be a first step in encouraging the use of macroalgae as a source of nutritious food with high economic value.

Abstract

Kupang is a semi-arid region that faces challenges related to limited access to nutritious food, vulnerability to climate change, and low diversification of animal protein sources. Under these conditions, the development of an adaptive and educational local food security model becomes important. Undana Farm, as an agro-tourism area in dryland conditions, has the potential to be developed not only as a recreational site but also as a learning medium for nutrition-based food education using local resources. The integration of aquaculture into this area is considered strategic for strengthening the promotion of fish consumption and community food education. This activity aimed to develop an integrated aquaculture edu-tourism facility based on a recreational fishing pond at Undana Farm and to improve community understanding of the importance of fish consumption in supporting food security and stunting prevention. The implementation methods included a site survey, stocking tilapia fingerlings as a recreational and educational facility, and socialization on the benefits of fish consumption for visitors and the surrounding community. The activity involved the management of Undana Farm and 30 community participants as target partners. The results showed that Undana Farm has strong potential for the development of aquaculture edu-tourism in dryland areas. Stocking tilapia supported the availability of a fishing pond as both a recreational attraction and an educational medium. The socialization activities increased community participation and strengthened visitors’ understanding of the benefits of fish as a nutritious source of animal protein. The integration of agriculture and aquaculture also added value to the function of Undana Farm as an educational agro-tourism center that supports practical, participatory, and sustainable community learning. Therefore, integrated aquaculture edu-tourism is effective as a medium for fish consumption education and strengthening community food security, and it has the potential to be replicated in other dryland areas.

Abstract

Benih ikan bawal bintang (Trachinotus blochii) cukup rentan mengalami kematian karena daya tahan tubuh yang belum kuat dan stabil.Salah satu strategi peningkatan imunitas atau daya tahan tubuh benih ikan bawal bintang adalah melalui penggunaan imunostimulan dari bahan alami, salah satunya bahan alami temulawak (Curcuma xanthorrhiza Roxb.). Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui pengaruh pemberian ekstrak temulawak dalam pakan komersial terhadap pertumbuhan dan kelulushidupan benih ikan bawal bintang. Metode yang diterapkan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode rancangan acak lengkap (RAL). Hasil uji ANOVA dari penelitian ini, mengindikasikan bahwa penambahan ekstrak temulawak pada pakan komersial bagi benih ikan bawal bintang memiliki nilai terbaik dari perlakuan D (3% ekstrak temulawak), dimana hasil laju pertumbuhan spesifik yang paling besar yaitu 5,82%/hari, pertumbuhan berat mutlak paling besar yaitu 7,2 gram, pertumbuhan panjang mutlak paling besar yaitu 5,73 cm, nilai dari rasio konversi pakan paling rendah yaitu 1,10 dan efisiensi pakan paling besar yaitu 74,3% dengan tingkat kelulushidupan mencapai 100% pada semua perlakuan. Oleh karena itu, dapat disimpulkan bahwa pemberian ekstrak temulawak dalam pakan komersial berpengaruh signifikan dibanding kontrol terhadap pertumbuhan dan kelulushidupan benih ikan bawal bintang.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menguji pengaruh penambahan madu kefa ke dalam pakan terhadap laju pertumbuhan spesifik, rasio konversi pakan (FCR), dan kelangsungan hidup ikan lele sangkuriang (Clarias gariepinus). Penelitian ini menggunakan metode eksperimen dengan Rancangan Acak Lengkap (RAL) yang terdiri dari 3 perlakuan dan 3 kali ulangan. Perlakuan yang diberikan adalah: pakan 1 kg + 100 ml akuades (tanpa madu) (A), pakan 1 kg + larutan madu (10 ml madu dalam 100 ml akuades)(B), dan pakan 1 kg + larutan madu (15 ml madu dalam 100 ml akuades)(C). Pemeliharaan dilakukan selama 56 hari di Laboratorium Prodi Budidaya, Perairan Universitas Nusa Cendana, Kupang. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa penambahan madu kefa pada pakan secara signifikan meningkatkan laju pertumbuhan spesifik ikan lele sangkuriang, dengan nilai tertinggi pada perlakuan C (15 ml). Selain itu, penambahan madu kefa juga terbukti nyata meningkatkan tingkat kelangsungan hidup, dengan perlakuan C mencatat kelangsungan hidup tertinggi sebesar 91%. Namun, tidak terdapat pengaruh signifikan terhadap Rasio Konversi Pakan (FCR). Nilai FCR terendah dicapai pada perlakuan C sebesar 1,53. Kondisi kualitas air selama penelitian berada dalam kisaran optimal (Suhu 25-29°C dan pH 7,5-7,9). Berdasarkan hasil ini, madu kefa berpotensi sebagai suplemen pakan untuk meningkatkan pertumbuhan dan kelangsungan hidup ikan lele sangkuriang.Kata kunci : Madu, Pertumbuhan, FCR, kelangsungan hidup, Ikan Lele Sangkuriang

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengevaluasi pengaruh perendaman larva ikan nila (Oreochromis niloticus) dalam larutan madu Kefa dengan dosis yang berbeda terhadap persentase kelamin jantan, pertumbuhan, dan kelangsungan hidup. Larva berumur 7 hari direndam selama 20 jam dalam empat perlakuan dosis madu: 0 ml/L (kontrol), 5 ml/L, 10 ml/L, dan 15 ml/L. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa perlakuan D (15 ml/L) menghasilkan persentase jantan tertinggi sebesar 73,81%, yang berbeda nyata (P<0,05) dengan perlakuan lainnya. Pertumbuhan mutlak tidak berbeda nyata (P>0,05) antar perlakuan. Kelangsungan hidup tertinggi terdapat pada kontrol (93,33%), sedangkan perlakuan D menunjukkan kelangsungan hidup terendah (70%) akibat stres osmotik. Disimpulkan bahwa madu efektif sebagai agen maskulinisasi alami dengan dosis optimal 15 ml/L, meskipun berdampak pada penurunan kelangsungan hidup.Kata kunci : Ikan nila; maskulinisasi; madu kefa; kelangsungan hidup; pertumbuhan

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk membandingkan pertumbuhan dan kualitas rumput laut Kappaphycus striatum yang dibudidayakan menggunakan dua metode berbeda, yaitu keramba Portable Offshore Device (POD) dan longline, di perairan Batuhopon, Desa Huilelot, Pulau Semau, Kabupaten Kupang. Perbedaan metode budidaya diduga berpengaruh terhadap laju pertumbuhan biomassa, insidensi penyakit ice–ice, serta kondisi kualitas lingkungan selama pemeliharaan. Penelitian dilaksanakan selama 45 hari menggunakan Rancangan Acak Kelompok (RAK) dengan 30 titik sampel, masing-masing metode terdiri atas 15 titik dengan berat bibit awal 100 gram. Parameter yang diamati meliputi laju pertumbuhan rata-rata, laju pertumbuhan spesifik (SGR), pertumbuhan berat mutlak, insidensi penyakit ice–ice, serta kualitas air (suhu, salinitas, pH, kedalaman, kecerahan, dan kecepatan arus). Analisis data dilakukan menggunakan uji t independen untuk mengetahui perbedaan signifikan antar perlakuan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa metode longline memberikan pertumbuhan biomassa yang lebih tinggi secara signifikan dibandingkan keramba POD. Nilai pertumbuhan rata-rata harian dan pertumbuhan mutlak pada longline meningkat konsisten hingga akhir pengamatan, sedangkan pada metode POD mengalami penurunan tajam mulai minggu ke-5. SGR pada longline juga lebih tinggi dan stabil, sementara metode POD menunjukkan penurunan hingga bernilai negatif pada minggu akhir. Selain itu, insidensi penyakit ice–ice pada metode POD jauh lebih tinggi dibandingkan longline, terutama pada minggu ke-6. Kondisi ini terkait dengan sirkulasi air yang kurang optimal, shading antar thallus, dan fluktuasi kualitas air yang lebih besar pada keramba POD. Secara keseluruhan, metode longline terbukti lebih efektif untuk budidaya K. striatum karena mampu menghasilkan pertumbuhan yang optimal, menekan risiko penyakit, serta memberikan kondisi lingkungan yang lebih mendukung. Temuan ini dapat menjadi acuan dalam pengembangan budidaya rumput laut yang lebih efisien dan berkelanjutan.Kata kunci : K. striatum, keramba POD dan longline, pertumbuhan spesifik (SGR), berat mutlak, insidensi ice–ice, kualitas air.

Abstract

Bacterial disease caused by Aeromonas hydrophila is one of the major constraints in catfish aquaculture in Blepanawa Village, East Nusa Tenggara, as it can lead to lesions, reduced survival rates, and fish mortality. The widespread use of antibiotics by farmers poses risks of bacterial resistance and negative environmental impacts; therefore, safer and more sustainable control alternatives are required. This activity aimed to improve farmers’ knowledge and skills in utilizing patikan kerbau (Euphorbia hirta) and honey as natural antibacterial agents. The program was implemented through socialization, training, formulation demonstration, and participatory discussion involving 30 catfish farmers. The results indicated an increase in farmers’ understanding and skills, as reflected by their ability to re-explain the material, prepare the formulation, and independently apply the technique. Farmers also showed positive responses toward the use of natural materials as an alternative disease control strategy. The utilization of patikan kerbau and honey has the potential to support safer, environmentally friendly, and sustainable fish health management through the use of local resources.
