Abstract

Abstract

The main aim of this research is to elaborate the narrative structure of digital prose across various online platforms and examine how digital media characteristics influence storytelling forms. A qualitative approach and the integration of Gérard Genette’s structural narratology with Marie-Laure Ryan’s transmedial narratology are applied. The object of this research is the selected texts from Wattpad, Webtoon, Fizzo, and Karyakarsa. The findings of this research show that digital prose tends to apply linear yet accelerated and fragmented narrative structures, characterized by dominant internal focalization and homodiegetic narration to enhance reader engagement. Furthermore, each platform shapes narrative configuration differently. For example, Webtoon emphasizes multimodal and spatialized storytelling, Wattpad facilitates participatory, community-driven narrative; third, Fizzo promotes compressed, fast-paced storytelling; and fourth, Karyakarsa integrates a narrative production with social and economic interaction. These results reveal that digital prose is not simply an extension of printed literature, but it is a platform-dependent narrative form which is shaped by the interaction between textual strategies (narratology structure) and technological affordances (transmedial narratology). This study contributes to digital narratology by highlighting how platform features actively reconfigure narrative structures and reader–text relationships in contemporary storytelling.

Abstract

This study investigates how linguistic anchorage constructs post-feminist identities in cosmetic advertising by examining advertisements from three prominent cosmetic brands selected for their extensive market influence, strong digital visibility, and consistent representation of contemporary feminine ideals. Employing a qualitative semiotic approach grounded in Barthes’ theory of anchorage and post-feminist perspectives, the study analyzes verbal and visual elements embedded in selected advertisements from these brands. Data were collected through documentation techniques and examined using descriptive-interpretative analysis to identify the interaction between linguistic messages and visual signs in shaping meanings of femininity, empowerment, and self-representation. The findings reveal that linguistic anchorage strategically directs audience interpretation toward particular post-feminist discourses that emphasize individual agency, self-confidence, autonomy, and beauty as forms of empowerment while simultaneously reinforcing consumerist ideals. The study further demonstrates that advertising narratives negotiate traditional and contemporary gender expectations through carefully constructed verbal cues. These findings contribute to semiotic and post-feminist advertising scholarship by extending the application of linguistic anchorage to the analysis of contemporary beauty advertisements and by providing a deeper understanding of how commercial discourses participate in the construction of post-feminist subjectivities.

Abstract

This study examines the forms and functions of idiolect on the Instagram account @adindafala from a sociolinguistic perspective. The focus of the study is directed toward the use of distinctive language that reflects the speaker’s identity in digital communication. This research employs a qualitative descriptive method, with data sources consisting of captions and stories posted on the Instagram account @adindafala. The data were collected through observation and documentation techniques, then analysed by identifying the forms of idiolect and the language functions used by the speaker. The results of the study indicate that the idiolect found on the Instagram account @adindafala is manifested through the use of code-mixing, phonological changes, regional language interference, slang, abbreviations, language play, and graphological variations. These forms demonstrate a tendency toward the use of creative and communicative nonstandard language in social media. In addition, personal and representational functions were identified in the speaker’s language use. The personal function is reflected through the use of humorous, expressive, casual, and nonstandard language to describe the speaker’s daily experiences, while the representational function is used to convey information related to the speaker’s activities and situations. The findings of this study show that idiolect on social media serves as a form of linguistic expression influenced by digital communication culture and interlanguage interaction.

Abstract

Abstract

The golden snail is a major pest in rice cultivation. This pest attacks the vegetative phase of the plant, so that reducing rice production. Various efforts to control gold snail pests have been carried out such as the use of chemical-based molluscicides. However, this can lead to pest resistance and environmental pollution. Therefore, an alternative effort was made by using extracts Areca seed as a molluscicide. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of ethanol extract of young and old betel nut as a molluscicide and to determine the concentration of ethanol extract of young and old betel nut which was effective as a molluscicide against golden snail pests. The research was carried out at the Universitas Samudra Laboratory in January-March 2021. Experimental design used RAL with 8 treatments and 5 replications. The application of ethanol extract of old betel nut and areca nut had a significant effect on mortality of golden snail pest but was not significantly different between treatments. The application of a single extract of young and old areca nut seeds at a concentration of 30% was very effective in increasing the mortality of golden snails by 100%, both for golden snails aged 14 days, 26 days, 60 days and adult (wild) snails.

The research method used  a qualitative descriptive approach focused on the presentation and in-depth interpretation of linguistic data. Data collection techniques were conducted through direct field observations to document business signage and in-depth interviews with business owners to explore naming motivations. Data analysis techniques were applied by classifying language use based on the type of meaning and function of the linguistic landscape, which were then interpreted to identify sociolinguistic trends in society. The results show that a number of culinary businesses in Jambi City extensively use multilingual naming, both entirely and in a hybrid manner. Some examples of naming found include Brownmix, Kafaaf, D'Box, D'BestO, Casa de Alicia, Haus Tea, and Love. These findings indicate that multilingual use has two main functions: informative and symbolic. The informative function is reflected in the use of foreign languages to concisely describe product types or business images. Meanwhile, the symbolic function is seen in the efforts of business owners to build a modern, prestigious, and globally oriented identity to increase business competitiveness in the public space of Jambi.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the structure of positive discourse in the speech delivered by Joko Widodo at the Bloomberg New Economy Forum in Singapore. This research employs a qualitative approach using the discourse analysis framework of Teun A. van Dijk, which includes macrostructure, superstructure, and microstructure, combined with the Positive Discourse Analysis approach. The findings reveal that the structure of positive discourse can be identified through macrostructure, superstructure, and microstructure. At the macrostructure level, the speech presents a main theme of Indonesia’s economic transformation toward a data- and technology-based intelligence economy. At the superstructure level, the speech is systematically organized into three main parts—introduction, body, and conclusion—forming a logical and persuasive flow. Meanwhile, at the microstructure level, the analysis covers semantic, syntactic, stylistic, and rhetorical aspects that function to reinforce positive messages such as optimism, progress, and readiness for the future. Therefore, the speech is not only informative but also persuasive and inspirational in constructing a positive image of Indonesia on the global stage.

Abstract

: This research is driven by the low poetry writing skills among students at SMP N 17 Tanjung Jabung Timur. The primary challenges identified include difficulties in generating ideas and utilizing meaningful diction. The objective of this study is to describe the improvement in students' poetry writing abilities through the application of a semiotic approach based on local wisdom. The implementation methods consisted of preparation, training, content production practice, as well as monitoring and evaluation. The research subjects involved 7th and 8th-grade students of SMP N 17 Tanjung Jabung Timur. Data collection techniques included poetry writing tests, classroom activity observations, and documentation. Data analysis was conducted using both descriptive qualitative and quantitative methods. The results indicate a significant increase in the average scores of students' poetry writing abilities. Qualitatively, students were able to transform local cultural signs—such as coastal community traditions and the mangrove ecosystem—into profound poetic metaphors through the analysis of icons, indices, and symbols. The study concludes that a semiotic approach based on local wisdom is effective in improving the quality of students' poetry while simultaneously strengthening local cultural literacy.
