Abstract

Abstract

Students’ indecision regarding their interests and their lack of persistence often lead to their careers being irrelevant to the competencies they possess. Grit, as one of the non-cognitive factors that helps a person stay persistent and focused in achieving goals, is needed to have consistency and the ability to overcome obstacles. Aiming to fill the gap in knowledge about previous studies that looked at this topic, this study’s main goal was to increase the grit levels of grade XII students at vocational schools (SMKs) through group counseling using Mindfulness-based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT). This research looked at how MBCT-based group counseling can help students improve their mindful awareness, cognitive patterns, and ability to stay focused on their goals. This quasi-experimental study, employing one group pretest-posttest design, involved 4 grade XII students of a vocational school in Banjarbaru City who had low grit scores, measured using The Grit Scale. Statistical analysis using the paired sample t-test was applied to identify differences in scores between the two groups. The results of this study found that group counseling based on MBCT was effective in increasing grit levels in SMK students in Banjarbaru by increasing the ability of awareness and focus of students to develop new mindsets that lead to positive changes and more appropriate decision-making. With group counseling, a good psychological state will help improve one's self-quality and performance, thus creating potential vocational school graduates. To achieve these goals, vocational schools should have a program that focuses on developing learners‘ psychological aspects and teachers should be specifically trained to assist learners who have difficulties in their studies.

Abstract

Golden snail is an important pest on rice plants in Indonesia. The study purposed to obtain the most effective plant extracts to suppress the golden snail population. The study was conducted at the greenhouse of Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Andalas, Padang from November to December 2018, using a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with six treatments and four replications. The treatment was leaf extracts from several plants with a concentration of 10 g/l, that were god’s crown or mahkota dewa (Phaleria macrocarpa), noni or mengkudu (Morinda citrifolia), breadfruit or sukun (Artocarpus altilis), ti plant or andong (Cordyline fruticosa), mangkokan (Nothopanax scutellarium), and control. The parameters observed were mortality of golden snails, percentage of clumps attacked, and intensity of golden snail attacks. The results showed that there were three leaf extracts could suppress golden snail population significantly, ie. Mangkokan, andong and mahkota dewa. The mangkokan leaf extracts was most effective in controlling golden snails which caused mortality of golden snails to reach 100% within 24 hours of exposure so that they did not attack the clumps as a whole.

Abstract

During the last three years, several snails as pests that attacked vegetables, especially cabbages (Brassicaceae) in the highland vegetable crop center of Mount Marapi, were found to cause damage. This study aimed to obtain the species, population, and attack rate of snails pests on the cabbage plants. The study was conducted using a survey method with purposive sampling conducted from July to September 2019 with the criteria of observing plants two weeks after planting and determining the sample diagonally. The results showed that cabbage plants in Mount Marapi, Agam Regency, were attacked by two snails, namely Bradybaena similaris and Parmarion sp. The population of B. similaris was higher than that of Parmarion sp. Mustard plants are most at risk of being attacked by snails, with the highest percentage and intensity of attack even though the damage category is classified as moderate. Mustard plants are also among the first time to be attacked by snails. Cultivation techniques affect the density and attack rate of pest snails at the research site. Key words: Slug attack level, species and population density, Bradybaena similaris, Parmarion sp.

Abstract

The complex Indonesian society requires the residents to always maintain good relations to realize a harmonious life with each other. Peaceful and conflict are the potential two poles presenting in human life. Maintaining stable community conditions is a shared responsibility, from the government to the small community level. Besides, the level of the role of academics, especially students, becomes important as an object of research. Religious moderation is a wise attitude toward one's self during the conditions of a multicultural and multireligious society. Researchers focus on how the attitude of religious moderation in the form of tolerance of students representing generation Z, Universitas Lambung Mangkurat Banjarmasin, can be questioned. The students who are the object of their research are studying at FKIP, FK, and FEB. The results of research findings based on a standard of tolerance indicators that correspond to students’ response are more likely to be in an attitude of mutual respect, mutual help among each other, focus on equality, and always tolerance for all communities. In addition, the researchers classified the research findings based on the response of the answers on three categories of students: pluralist, inclusive, and exclusive. Potential attitudes tend to make students enter the pluralist category up to 53%. The type thus shows that students are more receptive to differences by supporting each other's good in the teachings of religions. Next, there are 41% enter the inclusive category. This category tends students to welcome differences in beliefs, but they still hold more of what is within the religions. The last category is exclusive, with 6% of the student classification results. This third catalog fully believes that goodness and truth are only in the person of his religion. Therefore, the three classifications' results show that Lambung Mangkurat University students tend to be more open to each other in the difference of beliefs. It will give positively impact on collaborative affairs in solving specific problems that need to be solved together, especially regarding the issues of this nation.
