Abstract

Social media has become a primary space for adolescent identity construction, where influencers function as models of communication and behavior. Without adequate control and digital literacy, influencers’ communication styles may shape adolescents’ character in an uncritical and instantaneous manner, potentially introducing values that diverge from national character ideals. This study aims to analyze how influencers’ communication styles on social media affect adolescent character formation. A qualitative descriptive approach with a case study method was employed involving adolescents aged 13–18 years in Magelang City who actively use Instagram and TikTok. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, social media observations, and digital documentation. The data were analyzed using data reduction, data display, and verification techniques. Data validity was ensured through source triangulation and member checking. The findings reveal that persuasive, personal, and expressive communication styles used by influencers significantly influence adolescents’ attitudes, values, and character formation in both positive and negative ways. These findings highlight the importance of digital literacy in strengthening adolescent character in the information era. The study provides insights for educators, parents, and policymakers in designing effective digital mentoring strategies and offers a foundation for further research

Abstract

The rise of AI in recent times has significantly impacted the translation industry, igniting discussions about the respective roles of AI-driven machine translation and human expertise. However, the effectiveness of AI and machine translation in translating literary works remains a topic of debate, as literary translation should be linguistically accurate and preserve nuance, emotion, and cultural context. This study aims to observe the result of AI, Machine Translation, and humans in translating the short story entitled The Story of An Hour. This study analyses the translation method used by AI, Machine Translation (MT), and Human (HT) to translate a short story. Moreover, this research also determines the quality of the translation results from AI, MT, and HT. The research method used is qualitative and quantitaive. The data are collected from document analysis to observe the translation methods based on Newmark and questionnaire from Sutopo & Setya Budi to assess the quality of literary translation results. The research objects are the translation results of Chat GPT, DeepL, and human translator taken from fiksi lotus. The translation results are assessed concerning the accuracy, the sense of literature, acceptability, and readability. The results show that the significant translation methods applied in AI and machine translation are literal, faithful, communicative, and semantic translations. However, a human translator uses free translation, adaptation, and communicative translation. The quality result shows that human translators get higher accuracy, acceptability, sense of literature, and readability.

Abstract

This study was conducted in order to prove the testing of foreign loanwords -at that entered the Indonesian language. These foreign loanwords will be distinguished which ones are included as suffixes or become final forms that are attached and cannot be separated from the root word. In addition, this study also aims to reveal the grammatical meaning and function of forming the categorization of the loanwords -at that are absorbed. The data for this study were obtained based on the online KBBI in the form of words with the final form -at. The list of research data in question includes some that are in the form of suffixes and non-suffixes. Then, the research object from the data will be traced based on its final form, namely -at. So, the data collection method in this study uses the observe and note technique. After that, the data and research objects will be analyzed using a qualitative descriptive method. The results of this study indicate that words ending in -at in Indonesian are absorbed from foreign languages. Some of these endings are in the form of suffixes and some are part of the word itself so that they cannot be separated from the word, but still have a connection with similar forms. Due to the small amount of data with the suffix -at found in the dictionary, the foreign loan suffix -at is included in the unproductive suffixes. The finding is that not all basic words can be attached to the suffixes of these words, but the suffix -at can only be attached to certain words.
