Abstract

It is important to improve the health of rural communities, including dental and oral health. The majority of the population of Mekarsaluyu Village, Bandung Regency, West Java, have jobs in the agricultural sector and lack knowledge of health. The global pandemic of the Covid-19 virus has lasted for two years. This condition causes people to need to make several adaptations and changes in behavior, including oral dental health. The purpose of the community service is to implement the Independent Learning Campus (MBKM) program to empower the role of students. The method of implementing this community service program is through outreach activities to the community regarding natural materials from the surrounding environment to improve oral dental health in the target villages of the Mekarsaluyu Village area and evaluated using a questionnaire to 16 respondents before and after the activity. Data were analyzed using T-test dependent (p0.05). The results of community service showed that there was an increase in knowledge after the implementation of the extension indicated by (p = 0.00). Based on the above, it can be concluded that the MBKM program plays a role in changing the knowledge of the assisted village communities.

Abstract

Orthodontic treatment is a treatment that induces light pressure on the teeth by using an orthodontic appliance so that the teeth move in a determined direction. Fixed orthodontic treatment must be following the instructions of an orthodontist however many unlicensed dental services and online shop sites offer free braces. Side effects can occur in patients with a fixed orthodontic appliance, but this has been minimized by dentists in the treatment process so that patients get greater benefits. Fixed orthodontic treatment by unlicensed dental services is done without any responsibility in case of an error that threatens dental health. It was reported that 22 years old woman complained that her lower anterior teeth were mobile and there was a white spot on the part where the bracket was set up. The patient wanted to remove the braces that were attached by the unlicensed dental services several years ago. Patients diagnosed with periodontitis localized of teeth 32-42 with mobility grade II et causa trauma of fixed orthodontic appliances. The dental emergencies of tooth mobility, in this case, were carried out by orthodontic bracket removal on the upper and lower teeth and followed by periodontal treatment. So that it does not cause further damage to the underlying supporting tissue and cause the tooth to extrude. DOI : 10.54052/jhds.v2n1.p63-74

Abstract

Streptococcus sanguinis (s.sanguinis) is one of the normal flora in the oral cavity. These bacteria act as a pioneer in forming plaques that cause most dental and oral diseases. It takes an antibacterial agent to be able to inhibit the clips of the plaque. One of the herbal plants that have been known to have antibacterial power is the mint leaf (Mentha Piperita L.). The antibacterial potency of this plant comes from its chemical compound content, such as flavonoids, polyphenols, tannins, and menthols. This study aimed to determine the inhibitory of mint leaf extract on the growth of Sanguinis. An experimental laboratory carries out research. Tests were carried out using the diffusion method in four test groups, namely mint leaf extract with a concentration of 2.5%, 5%, 7.5%, and 10%, and one control group that uses DMSO. Each treatment group repeated five times on the Mueller-Hinton media (MHA) using disk paper and incubated for 24 hours. The inhibition zone can be seen in the transparent area formed around the disk paper and then measured using the Sorong term to find a large diameter. Statistical analysis was carried out using the Kruskal-Wallis test. The study results that the largest inhibitory zone diameter was obtained in a test group with a concentration of 10% (16.39 mm), while the lowest diameter in the control group (4.89 mm) 10% concentration was the highest among all test groups. The DMSO did not have an antibacterial effect. The higher the concentration of an antibacterial compound, it will also increase its effectiveness. DOI : 10.54052/jhds.v1n1.p49-59

Abstract

Abses adalah kumpulan pus yang terletak dalam satu kantung yang terbentuk dalam jaringan yang disebabkan oleh suatu infeksi oleh bakteri, parasit, atau benda asing lainnya. Abses submandibula adalah suatu peradangan yang disertai pembentukan pus pada daerah submandibula. Pada umumnya sumber infeksi pada spasia submandibula berasal dari proses infeksi gigi, dasar mulut, faring, kelenjar limfe submandibula. Pada laporan kasus ini dijelaskan manajemen dental abses submandibular dextra et causa nekrosis pulpa gigi 44 dengan tindakan buka kavum pada gigi 44. Penanganan kedaruratan dental abses submandibular dextra et causa nekrosis pulpa gigi 44 dilakukan dengan tindakan buka kavum yang disertai dengan pemberian antibiotik dan analgesik. Pemberian antibiotik gabungan berupa amoxicillin dan metronidazole memberikan efek antibakterial yang lebih efektif pada kasus abses. Hasil pemeriksaan pada minggu ketiga menunjukkan sudah tidak tampak adanya pembengkakan pada pasien sehingga diindikasikan untuk dilakukan perawatan saluran akar. DOI : 10.35990/mk.v3n1.p62-70

Abstract

Kesehatan gigi, dan mulut pada anak di Indonesia masih perlu mendapatkan perhatian yang serius dari tenaga kesehatan. Upaya untuk mengatasi masalah kesehatan gigi pada anak salah satunya adalah Usaha Kesehatan Gigi Sekolah (UKGS) yang terbagi menjadi tahap optimal, standar, dan minimal. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui status kebersihan gigi, dan mulut siswa Sekolah Dasar usia 12 tahun pada program UKGS tahap optimal, standar, dan minimal. Pemilihan sekolah dilakukan secara cluster random sampling. Sampel penelitian adalah seluruh siswa usia 12 tahun di Sekolah Dasar terpilih di wilayah kerja Puskesmas Cianjur Kota dengan jumlah total 60 siswa yang memenuhi kriteria inklusi, dan diambil data dengan sistem Oral Hygiene Index Simplified (OHII-S). Data diolah secara deskriptif dalam bentuk persentase. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa median indeks OHI-S pada sekolah dengan UKGS tahap optimal sebesar 1,5; tahap standar sebesar 1,67; dan tahap minimal sebesar 1,5. Tidak terdapat perbedaan yang besar antara ketiga program UKGS yang berbeda, hal ini dapat disebabkan beberapa faktor seperti, kurang maksimalnya pelaksanaan program UKGS, terbatasnya fasilitas sekolah, terbatasnya tenaga, dan waktu tenaga kesehatan, serta kurang kesadaran siswa dalam menjaga kebersihan gigi, dan mulutnya. Kesimpulan dari penelitian ini bahwa status kebersihan gigi siswa sekolah dasar usia 12 tahun pada UKGS tahap optimal, standar, dan minimal di wilayah kerja Puskesmas Cianjur Kota termasuk kategori sedang. Abstract

Brushing teeth combined with toothpaste is influential in maintaining dental and oral hygiene, especially for children still developing. Toothpaste contains several active ingredients, including detergent in the form of Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS). This study aims to determine whether or not using children's toothpaste that contains SLS and does not contain SLS on the enamel surface roughness. An experimental laboratory study was conducted on twenty primary incisors divided into two groups of treatment samples to be brushed using toothpaste containing SLS and not SLS. Toothbrushing treatment was carried out for 30 days in the morning and evening with the assumption that the accumulated time for 6 minutes was the same as the time to brush your teeth in 1 day, 2x brushing your teeth in the morning and at night. The tooth enamel surface roughness was measured before and after treatment in the middle 1/3 of the labial surface using a Mituyo SJ 301 profilometer. Statistical analysis using the Dependent t-Test showed that the P-value of the enamel surface roughness variable was less than 0.05 (P-value <0.05), thus it can be explained that there is a statistically significant mean difference between the enamel surface roughness variables before and after brushing treatment on both groups. Toothpaste that contains SLS and without SLS affects the enamel surface roughness, which can reduce the enamel surface roughness. DOI : 10.54052/jhds.v3n1.p21-30

Abstract

Masyarakat semakin paham mengenai pentingnya perawatan ortodonti. Ortodonti cekat terdiri dari komponen aktif dan pasif. Tekanan dari pemakaian komponen aktif dapat menginduksi sitokin proinflamasi, salah satunya TNF-α, sehingga menyebabkan nyeri. Daun katuk (Sauropus androgynus (L.) Merr.) mengandung flavonoid, sehingga dapat menurunkan sitokin proinflamasi. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui pengaruh ekstrak daun katuk terhadap kadar TNF-α. Penelitian adalah eksperimental menggunakan 46 ekor marmut betina dengan kelompok kontrol dan kelompok yang diberi dosis daun katuk 78,3 mg/kgBB. Pengamatan yang dilakukan pada pengujian ini yaitu TNF-α yang diambil dari sampel darah pada jantung marmut pada hari ke-3, hari ke-7 dan hari ke-14. Sampel marmut diaplikasikan separator ortodonti pada gigi insisif kanan dan diberi ekstrak etanol daun katuk sesuai kelompok, setelah hari ke-14 dilakukan analisis TNF-α. Data dianalisis dengan uji T-independen (p>0,05). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan kelompok kontrol rerata kadar TNF-α tertinggi pada hari ke-3 sebesar 630,71 dan rerata terendah kadar TNF-α pada hari ke-7 sebesar 275,86. Kelompok perlakuan, rerata kadar TNF-α tertinggi pada hari ke-3 sebesar 595,26 dan rerata terendah kadar TNF-α pada hari ke-14 sebesar 209,99. Tidak terdapat perbedaan yang bermakna pengaruh daun katuk terhadap kadar TNF-α pada hari ke-3 (p=0,822), hari ke-7 (p= 0,185) dan hari ke-14 (p=0,062). Kesimpulan yang didapat dalam penelitian ini adalah ekstrak daun katuk berpengaruh terhadap peningkatan rerata kadar TNF-α namun tidak bermakna secara statistik. Abstract

Introduction: The success of orthodontic treatment is influenced by a number of factors, including nutrition factor. Orthodontic force application is characterized by remodeling changes in the periodontal tissues leading to the phenomenon of tooth movement. Phytoestrogens are estrogen compounds that can maintain the balance of bone resorption formation and its impact on bone remodeling. Isoflavone, one of the phytoestrogen compounds, can be found in soybeans. Objectives: The aim of the study was to investigate the effectiveness of soy milk (Glycine max (L.) Merill) on tooth movement in orthodontic treatment. Methods: An experimental laboratory post-test with a control group design was used in this research. Twenty four female guinea pigs (Cavia C) were divided into 8 and divided into 3 groups used in this research. Each object was fed with soy-milk flavonoid isolate powder at doses of 3.12 g/kg BW and 6.25 g/kg BW. The data analysis used one-way ANOVA and Kruskal-Wallis, then continued with the Mann-Whitney test. Results: The result of the study showed, soy milk with 6.25 g/kg BW and 3.12 g/kg BW doses were effective on the distance guinea pigs' teeth movement who are undergoing orthodontic treatment. Conclusion: The most effective soy milk for the distance of teeth movement in guinea pigs in orthodontic treatment is a dose of 6.25g/kg WB. The soy milk was effective to the number of tooth distance movement with orthodontic treatment.

Abstract

Tooth prints is a very potential tool in forensic identification as the enamel rod patterns on tooth surface is individually unique. This study was aimed to detect changes of tooth prints after teeth were exposed with high temperatures. Forty-five extracted teeth were divided into 5 groups, then exposed to various high temperatures for 15 minutes in a furnace. To ensure practical application, a highly reproducible digital photographic method to detect tooth prints was developed. Before and after the heating process, tooth prints were photographed. The image data was analysed using an open-source biometric software, and the number of matching points of each tooth was compared before and after treatment. Results showed the decreasing number of match points of tooth prints in accord with the increasing of temperature exposure (P < 0.05). The number of tooth print matching points can be confidently observed at temperatures 600°C or lower. The consistence of matching points shows the prospect of tooth print analysis to become a reliable identification method. This digital photography technique offers a straightforward method for routine dental recording in daily practice by dentists and identification by forensic odontologists. It opens further direction for standardization of pattern analysis, database development, and daily protocols. Keywords: dental photography; forensic identification; high temperature; tooth prints

Abstract

Pengabdian masyarakat ini bertujuan untuk memberikan pengetahuan tentang manfaat antioksidan dari tumbuhan untuk meningkatkan kesadaran akan pentingnya kesehatan di kalangan masyarakat Kampung Adat Cireundeu, Kota Cimahi. Metode pengabdian masyarakat dilakukan melalui kegiatan penyuluhan yang melibatkan warga kampung untuk memahami konsep antioksidan, sumber alami dari tumbuhan yang kaya akan senyawa antioksidan, serta manfaatnya bagi kesehatan tubuh. Kegiatan penyuluhan ini mencakup ceramah, demonstrasi, dan sesi tanya jawab guna meningkatkan pemahaman masyarakat akan cara-cara sederhana dalam memanfaatkan tumbuhan sekitar sebagai sumber antioksidan. Hasil evaluasi menunjukkan peningkatan pengetahuan dan kesadaran masyarakat akan pentingnya mengonsumsi antioksidan dari buah, bunga, daun, batang, dan akar tumbuhan untuk menjaga kesehatan. Sebanyak 46 masyarakat Kampung Cireundeu mengisi pretes diakhiri dengan evaluasi yaitu mengisi postes untuk alat ukur sederhana mengevaluasi pemahaman masyarakat tentang tanaman antioksidan. Masyarakat yang terlibat mengikuti kegiatan dengan antusias dan berdasarkan postes menunjukkan nilai pemahaman terhadap materi yang diberikan sangat baik. Melalui pengabdian masyarakat ini, masyarakat diharapkan dapat menerapkan pengetahuan yang didapat untuk memperbaiki pola hidup sehat dengan memanfaatkan sumber daya alam yang tersedia di sekitarnya sebagai antioksidan. Hasil kegiatan menunjukkan terjadinya peningkatan pemahaman masyarakat terhadap manfaat antioksidan dari tumbuhan untuk kesehatan, sehingga diharapkan dapat berkontribusi pada peningkatan kesejahteraan masyarakat Kampung Adat Cireundeu, Kota Cimahi.
