Abstract

This study aims to determine the practice of online learning in urban and rural areas in Melawi Regency. This study involved schools located in urban and rural areas. This study uses a descriptive type of research with a qualitative approach. Collecting data using semi-structured interviews, with interview tools using interview guidelines. In this study there were 3 schools involved, where 2 schools were in urban areas, 1 school was in rural areas, each school had 5 informants, the number of informants was 15 people, consisting of 1 principal, 2 English teachers, and 2 students. The findings of this study indicate the process of online learning practices that exist in urban and rural areas. Furthermore, the thematic analysis and cross-case analysis used show that the application of online learning has differences in each application in 3 schools in urban and rural areas, namely using full online learning and hybrid learning, namely online and offline modes, the obstacles faced are limited facilities, stability internet network and decreased student interest in learning. The potential for future improvements is the hope of support from the government to improve the obstacles faced in online learning in rural and urban areas in Melawi Regency.

Abstract

Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahuikesiapan siswa untuk belajar mandiri mata pelajaranbahasa Inggris. Penelitian ini bersifat deskriptif. Sampelpenelitian ini adalah tiga puluh empat siswa kelas sepuluh.Penelitian ini menggunakan metode langsung dan tidaklangsung, yaitu pedoman wawancara dan kuesioner. Analisis data menggunakan metode campuran, danpeneliti menggunakan kuesioner tertutup dan wawancarasemi terstruktur. Data dari kuesioner dianalisis secarakuantitatif menggunakan perangkat lunak Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) Versi 22 dan versidesktop Microsoft Excel 2011. Hasil kuesionermelaporkan bahwa skor rata-rata tertinggi adalah 3,18. Sekitar 59% siswa selalu memiliki target prestasi belajaruntuk belajar mandiri dalam belajar bahasa Inggris, dantingkat interpretasi siswa dikelompokkan antara tingkatmenengah dan tinggi. Berdasarkan hasil wawancara, siswasiap untuk belajar lebih banyak tanggung jawab di banyakbidang proses pembelajaran bahasa Inggris.Kesimpulannya, siswa siap untuk belajar mandiri dalampelajaran bahasa Inggris karena siswa memilikikarakteristik otonom. Namun, siswa perlu merencanakanproses belajar mereka, menetapkan tujuan, dan mengambilperan yang lebih aktif dalam menegosiasikan proses belajar mengajar. Selain itu, guru dan siswa harus bertukarpikiran untuk menemukan gaya belajar yang dapatdigunakan untuk menerapkan pembelajaran mandiri.Kata Kunci: Kesiapan, Pembelajaran Mandiri, Mata Pelajaran Bahasa InggrisThe purpose of this study was to determine students' readiness for autonomous learning of English subjects.This research is descriptive. The sample of this study was thirty-four tenth-grade students. This study uses direct and indirect methods, namely interview guidelines and questionnaires. The data analysis used the mixed method, and the researcher used a closed questionnaire and semi-structured interviews. The data from the questionnaires were analyzed quantitatively using the Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) software version 22 and Microsoft Excel 2011 desktop version. The results of the questionnaire reported that the highest average score was 3.18. About 59% of students always have a learning achievement target for autonomous learning in learning English, and the level of interpretation of students is grouped between medium and high levels. Based on the results of the interviews, students are ready to learn more responsibilities in many areas of the English learning process. In conclusion, students are ready for autonomous learning in English lessons because students have the characteristics of autonomous. However, students need to plan their learning process, set goals, and take a more active role in negotiating the teaching and learning process. In addition, teachers and students must exchange ideas to find learning styles that can be used to implement autonomous learning. Keywords: Readiness, Autonomous Learning, English Subject

Abstract

The emergence of anxiety in writing will affect the results of writing, the students are anxious how to use proper grammar, and they are worried if their writing will be evaluated. Several previous studies examined students in the early semester and found that their anxiety is still high, this study aimed to analyze writing anxiety to know the types and the levels of writing anxiety experienced by the students. This study involved sixth semester students of the English Education Study Program at IKIP PGRI Pontianak, with a total of 36 students, 25 of whom were female and 11 were male. The research method used is descriptive quantitative, where the data analysis statistically, and the data were collected through SLWAI questionnaire adapted from Cheng (2004). The result showed that students in the sixth semester still experienced writing anxiety even though it was at a moderate level with a percentage 53%, while the types of writing anxiety was measured based on three types: Cognitive Anxiety, Somatic Anxiety, and Avoidance Behavior, data analysis showed that students experienced Cognitive Anxiety with the highest mean score of 18.41 among the two types mentioned. The researcher hopes that this study will useful for readers that want to know about writing anxiety, and this research can be used as additional references for other researcher that has similar topic in the future.

Abstract

This research aimed to explore the psychological factors that caused college learners felt hard in delivering speaking performance. This study was conducted to the fifth semester English program students at IKIP PGRI Pontianak. The 37 students were chosen as the participant of this study which was obtained by doing purposive sampling. It was chosen since the problem occurred in IKIP PGRI Pontianak specifically at the fifth semester students. The research design used in this research was descriptive qualitative and quantitative design. The data were taken from online questionnaire and semi structured interview of students. The questionnaire was employed to find out the dominant factor. The other tool of collecting data was students’ semi structured-interview. It was used to support the questionnaire data. The researcher revealed that the psychological factor including anxiety, shyness, lack of confident, lack of motivation, and fear of making mistake were some factors that influenced students’ speaking performance. The researcher investigated that between five aspects, the dominanat factors influenced the students’ speaking performance was anxiety with the mean score (2,06). They worried to do speaking performance. Another factor were shyness, lack of confident, lack of motivation, and fear of making mistake, those factors hindered learners to practice their speaking ability in front of the class. The conclusions of this research were students feel anxious and afraid of making a mistake when they did speaking performance. This study suggested that the lecture should aware those factors affected students’ speaking performance in the class.

Abstract

Penggunaan aplikasi pada smartphone sebagai media pembelajaran merupakan suatu informasi yang harus diulas selama pembelajran online dimasa post pandemi.tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui 1. Apa aplikasi smartphone yang digunakan dosen dalam pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris selama pandemi Covid-19; 2. Apa manfaat dari aplikasi smartphone pada pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris selama pandemi Covid-19; 3. Apa kesulitan yang dihadapi oleh dosen dalam pemanfaatan aplikasi smartphone untuk pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris selama pandemi Covid-19. Penelitian ini dilakukang dengan menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif dengan memanfaatkan online questionnaire untuk mengumpulkan data pada 15 dosen program studi pendidikan bahasa inggris terhadap penggunaan aplikasi pada smartphone sebagai media pembelajaran bahasa inggris. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa ada beberapa aplikasi smartphone yang paling sering digunakan sebagai media pembelajaran bahasa inggris oleh dosen yaitu whatsapp, google classroom, google meet dan facebook. Adpun manfaat smartphone dalam pembelajaran bahasa inggris yaitu: Smartphone Sebagai Media Inkuiri, Smartphone Sebagai Komunukasi Bagi Siswa, Smartphone, Sebagai Pusat Informasi Bagi Siswa, Smartphone Sebagai Media Konstruksi. Kesulitan yang dihadapi oleh dosen adalah kesulitan pada jaringan internet dari mahasiswa. Selain itu, kesulitan yang dihadapi adalah permasalahan pada keaslian tugas yang dikumpulkan oleh mahasiswa.

Abstract

Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian desckriptif yang mempelajari fenomena kecemasan yang dialami oleh siswa semester 2 program studi Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris IKIP PGRI Pontianak. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui seberapa tinggi tingkat kecemasan yang dialami siswa pada setiap mata kuliah yang berhubungan dengan keterampilan dasar bahasa Inggris. Keterampilan-keterampilan yang menjadi fokus penelitian ini adalah keterampilan menyimak, keterampilan membaca, keterampilan berbicara, dan keterampilan menulis. Dari hasil penelitian, terindikasi tingkat kecemasan yang dirasakan siswa adalah predikat kecemasan sedang. Hal ini berlaku untuk empat keterampilan berbahasa Inggris yang memiliki selisih persentase yang tidak jauh berbeda antara satu dan yang lainnya. Namun untuk tingkat kecemasan yang paling tinggi yaitu kecemasan yang dirasakan siswa ketika mengikuti kegiatan pada keterampilan berbicara. Kemudian diikuti dengan keterampilan menyimak, keterampilan menulis, dan keterampilan membaca.

Abstract

The study aimed to investigate the effectiveness of the Dart game in teaching writing descriptive text. Pre-experimental research in the form of one group pre-test and post-test design was employed. The sample was selected through cluster random technique toward one of State Senior High School (SMAN) in west Borneo, Indonesia. Writing pre-test and post-test were conducted to gather the data. The data were, then, analyzed by using descriptive statistics. The result indicated that the Dart game was positively effective to teach the descriptive text. It is recommended that teachers should be aware that the use of Dart games does not necessarily guarantee better performance among EFL students when it comes to writing descriptive text. Therefore, they should create a language learning environment in which they encourage students to write in the target language to improve the quality of their writing.

Abstract

This study aimed to explore the implementation of Bamboo Dancing technique to engage the students in learning English as a foreign language (EFL) speaking. Classroom action research (CAR) was employed to the first-year students in one of State Senior High School Negeri in Kalimantan Barat. Observation, measurement, field notes were used to collect the data. From qualitative and quantitative data analyses, the data revealed that despite the difficulties that the teacher to control the class in the first cycle, this CAR was powerful to impact teaching practice in the second cycle. Furthermore, several positive changes in the mean score from 50, in the first cycle, and 76, in the second one. It is recommended that the results of this CAR pictured the attention of the importance of collaboration and cooperation between teacher and researcher to create meaningful teaching and learning through mutually respectful, supportive, and beneficial dialogue.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to describe the learning need analysis and validity level of supplementary learning module to teach students of English village in Sungai Deras. This research uses Research and Development with ADDIE model, which consists of 5 main stage, namely analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. The subject of this research were student at English Village in Sungai Deras. The technique of data collection is indirect communication techniques. The data collection tools applied in this research were validation expert sheet and questionnaires. Validation expert sheet was used to get the data validity, meanwhile questionnaires was used to get data the practicality of learning need analysis. The result of this research based on the data collected showed that the level of validation of supplementary learning module from the material, language, presentation, and graphic aspects is white an average value of 76.04% including feasibility criteria. This mean that using supplementary learning module to teach students of English Village in Sungai Deras village classified as feasibility and practical to use. Meanwhile, need analysis of the Sungai Deras English village’s needs based on the results of the data need analysis questionnaire, there are 2 themes namely, the needs of the Sungai Deras English village and the planning of Sungai Deras English village.

Abstract

Tujuan program pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini adalah untuk membantu sekolah menghadapi masa transisi pasca pandemi Covid-19 dengan cara membantu mempersiapkan lingkungan yang nyaman untuk siswa dan guru dan membantu mengenalkan pengajaran yang interaktif dan menyenangkan melalui pelajaran Bahasa Inggris yang masih belum menjadi tuntutan di awal Tahun 2022. Tiga sekolah yang disurvei menjadi lokasi program ini, yaitu SDN 07 Sungai Kakap, SDN 20 Sungai Kakap, dan MIS Miftahussalam yang berada di Desa Punggur Kecil, Sungai Kakap, Kubu Raya. Dua kegiatan utama yang dilakukan di program ini adalah gotong royong membersihkan lingkungan sekitar desa dan mengenalkan pembelajaran yang interaktif dan menarik melalui mata pelajaran Bahasa. Mahasiswa Program Studi Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris dilibatkan untuk membantu memberikan hasil yang optimal. Hasilnya, lingkungan sekolah menjadi bersih dan nyaman untuk siswa dan guru untuk belajar. Selain itu, siswa juga berpartisipasi dalam pembelajaran yang interaktif dan menyenangkan yang tidak hanya dapat membuat siswa lebih menyukai Bahasa Inggris tetapi juga membantu siswa untuk melihat proses belajar bisa sangat menyenangkan untuk diikuti pada masa transisi pasca pandemic Covid-19.
