Abstract

Background:The impact on infants who do not receive breast milk (ASI) includes jaundice due to insufficient intake, non-ideal body weight, dental caries, and increased vulnerability to infections and diarrhea. Successful breastfeeding must be supported by effective breastfeeding practices. Healthcare facilities need trained breastfeeding counselors who are competent in helping mothers breastfeed exclusively for six months. Midwives, as counselors, must be able to guide pregnant women, especially first-time mothers, regarding breastfeeding. Objective:To determine the effect of breastfeeding counseling on the incidence of nipple soreness in postpartum mothers. Method:This is a quantitative study using a case-control design, with breastfeeding counseling as the independent variable and nipple soreness as the dependent variable. The sample consisted of postpartum mothers from 7 to 14 days postpartum, totaling 40 participants with a 1:1 ratio between the control and comparison groups. Data were analyzed using univariate (frequency distribution) and bivariate (Chi-square) analysis. Results:There were 20 respondents in the control group and 20 in the intervention group. Of the 40 respondents, 14 (35%) experienced nipple soreness. Conclusion:There is an effect of breastfeeding counseling methods on the incidence of nipple soreness in postpartum mothers. Abstract

Background:Cancer is one of the leading causes of death worldwide. One of the most common cancers among women is cervical cancer. The low level of public knowledge about cervical cancer and its prevention methods is one of the main reasons for the low coverage of cervical cancer screening. Women's reluctance to undergo screening is often due to fear of the results, fear of pain during the examination, and feelings of embarrassment. Objective:The objective of this literature review is to gather and summarize literature related to the effectiveness of health education in improving women's knowledge and behavior regarding cervical cancer screening. Method:This study used electronic bibliographic databases, with systematic searches conducted in PubMed and ScienceDirect from 2009 to 2019. High-quality articles were selected based on inclusion criteria, resulting in 11 articles reviewed out of an initial 843. Results:The review identified two main themes: the effectiveness of health education using the Health Belief Model (HBM) concept, and the effectiveness of tools and media on women's behavior regarding cervical cancer screening. The findings indicate that health education significantly influences the improvement of knowledge, perception, attitudes, and behavior of women in undergoing cervical cancer screening.

Abstract

Adolescence represents a critical phase of development, particularly concerning hormonal changes and reproductive health. It was observed that several female students were unable to accurately track their menstrual cycles, sometimes necessitating their early dismissal from school due to Premenstrual Syndrome (PMS). Open discussion regarding reproductive health content remains infrequent, with students often reporting feelings of awkwardness and a lack of confidence in engaging in such discussions. The program's primary objectives were to enhance awareness and understanding of hormonal phases and sexually transmitted infections (STIs), and to develop display model 3D-based educational media as a visual and interactive aid for comprehending the hormonal system. The activity was conducted at Senior High School, involving 80 female students as participants. The socialization material covered hormonal phases and STIs. To assess the level of understanding, pre- and post-tests were administered. The results indicated a significant increase in knowledge following the intervention. A key outcome of this program was the production and dissemination of new 2- and 3-dimensional hormonal display model designs, which were subsequently integrated as learning materials.

Abstract

Background: Exclusive breastfeeding remains a global public health priority, yet its coverage in Indonesia has declined in recent years. In Central Kalimantan, the prevalence of exclusive breastfeeding was only 55.78% in 2023, with some districts reporting even lower rates. One of the major barriers is inadequate breast milk production, which is often influenced by maternal physiology, psychological well-being, and nutritional status. Soybean extract, rich in isoflavones, proteins, and bioactive compounds, has been suggested as a natural galactagogue that stimulates prolactin and oxytocin release, thereby enhancing lactation. Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of soybean extract in improving breast milk adequacy among postpartum mothers. Method:  A pre-experimental one-group pretest–posttest design was applied, involving 15 postpartum mothers (7–14 days after delivery) recruited through purposive sampling in the working area of Tumbang Talaken Health Center, Central Kalimantan. Participants consumed 220 ml of standardized soybean extract twice daily for seven consecutive days. Breast milk adequacy was assessed using a structured dichotomous questionnaire covering maternal (breast engorgement, milk leakage) and infant indicators (urination frequency, weight gain, sleep duration). Data were analyzed using McNemar’s test, with a significance level of p < 0.05. Result: Prior to the intervention, only 4 mothers (26.7%) reported adequate milk production, while 11 (73.3%) experienced insufficiency. After seven days of soybean extract consumption, 13 mothers (86.7%) achieved adequate production, and only 2 (13.3%) remained insufficient. McNemar’s test confirmed a statistically significant improvement (p = 0.004). Conclusion: Soybean extract significantly improved breast milk adequacy among postpartum mothers. As an affordable, accessible, and culturally acceptable intervention, soybean extract shows promise as a nutritional strategy to address lactation challenges and support national goals for improving exclusive breastfeeding coverage.
