Abstract

KP2C has implemented a flood early warning system through Whatsapp groups since 2016. However, in the areas of Bojong Kulur and Jatirasa, which are the focus of KP2C information and downstream of the Cileungsi and Cikeas rivers, there are still losses for members. The interaction illustrates that achievement of KP2C’s goals has not been maximized, so the meaning of effectiveness is important to explored sociologically with variables thought to be related to it such as the digital divide, social structure’s form, and social capital’s level. This study uses a postpositivism paradigma and survey methods with data qualitative as a support. Respondents in this study were obtained by purposive technique with 40 individuals in RW 24 Bojong Kulur and RW 8 Jatirasa Village as affected areas. The results showed the majority of all variables were dominated by the medium category. Digital divide variable is strongly and positively related to social structure. Both are simultaneously also related to social capital. Therefore, it can be said that if the role of the early warning system is to be effective, then the three variables must clearly be considered.

Abstract

ABSTRACTProgress in achieving gender equality and empowering women in Indonesia has been too slow and fragmented. The media can provide a voice and a platform for placing women's role issues on the development agenda. As in the education, health, economic, labor, and political sectors. However, in reality, there is a significant gender gap in mainstream media companies so that women are not represented optimally and steps to improve gender equality are limited. Alternative media is very possible to take a role in explaining issues of gender equality and women's empowerment. Because this type of media can connect various sectors, including trade unions, social movements, organizations and various elements of society. Researchers use the concept of gender and communication development, Standpoint theory, and alternative media. The approach used in this study is literature review research methodology. The results of this study explain that journalists in alternative media consider gender awareness and sensitivity important in themselves to be able to protect and defend women's interests. In fact, alternative media provide wide opportunities for journalists to raise strategic issues of equality and women's empowerment. Keywords: Alternative, Empowerment, Journalists, Media, Women

Abstract

Abstract

This study explores the implementation and impact of action-based learning in environmental education for elementary school students through ecotourism, using Organic Agro-Edu Tourism (AEWO) Mulyaharja in Bogor, Indonesia as a case study. Employing a qualitative research approach, data were collected through interviews, focus group discussions, observations, and document analysis involving students, teachers, local residents, and AEWO staff. The findings reveal that AEWO provides meaningful, hands-on learning experiences in organic agriculture, fostering emotional and cognitive connections to nature. Students gain not only agricultural knowledge but also develop greater empathy, responsibility, and appreciation for environmental sustainability. The integration of local farmers in the learning process enhances the authenticity and relevance of education, while the ecotourism setting enables place-based learning that extends beyond classroom boundaries. This research concludes that action-based learning within ecotourism frameworks significantly contributes to raising environmental awareness and shaping pro-environmental behavior among young learners.

Abstract

Agriculture and farmers are sectors and parties affected by climate change. Unfortunately, farmers' knowledge and adaptive capacity are still low due to the limited climate change information that they receive. The development of communication models to strengthen the interaction and flow of information has been very active. However, it has not yet addressed the lack of empowerment and scarcity of farmer participation. Therefore, we need a dialogical, horizontal, participatory communication model with an emphasis on empowerment and farmer participation. This research, using a participatory communication model, aims to see how participatory communication can encourage the empowerment and adaptability of farmers to climate change. This study uses a participatory action research approach with participatory data collection techniques for the Rural Communications Assessment (PRCA). The theory used is participatory communication and social change, which allows farmers and researchers to be equally involved and dialogue to occur. This research demonstrates the fact that participatory communication through a dialogue process can promote common goals and action in dealing with climate change. In addition, this research was also able to increase farmer empowerment, which was marked by changes at the individual farmer and social levels. These changes take the form of strengthening farmers' knowledge, perceptions, and skills related to climate change and adaptation actions and increasing farmer participation in village development planning. Farmers have been able to push the issue of strengthening farmer resilience to become part of the village development plan.

Abstract

The waste problem in Indonesia is one of the major problems. Bogor City is one of the cities that has a serious waste problem. Public awareness and participation are needed to overcome the waste problem. Waste management at the Rangga Mekar Waste Bank is important for good waste management by sorting waste. Public participation in waste sorting practices is expected to reduce environmental pollution. This study aims to see the Rangga Mekar waste bank program educating and influencing the community by analyzing the influence of environmental factors of the Rangga Mekar Waste Bank on the personal factors of waste bank customers, analyzing the influence of environmental factors of the Rangga Mekar Waste Bank on the behavior of residents in managing waste,  and the influence of personal factors of residents on waste management behavior. The method used in this study is the survey method. The results show that environmental factors have a positive influence in measuring personal constructs, but the influence of direct environmental factors on behavior is not significant. Personal factors have a positive influence on behavioral factors. Waste management in the community is greatly influenced by personal factors and individual self-ability. The environment acts as a reinforcer, while behavioral change depends on improving personal factors.

Abstract

Mainstream media shows a gap in engaging public participation, producing alternative content, and introducing social change. It is hoped that alternative media can be counter-hegemonic to mainstream media by providing a different perspective from the dominance of existing information. Women's alternative media can provide a voice and platform to empower women and place women's issues in their reporting. This study uses a critical paradigm with a qualitative approach and case study design. Researchers use the concepts of development communication, development journalism, and alternative media. The primary research subjects (informants) are the editors-in-chief or executive editors of five women's alternative media. The results of this study explain that women's alternative media contribute to the creation of a more inclusive and equitable space in society. They change negative narratives and stereotypes about women that frequently appear in mainstream media by creating more positive and accurate representations. They use creative and innovative ways to provide educational content about job skills, training, and self-development. They promote role models by featuring women's success stories in various fields. They interact directly with their communities to better connect with their audiences, understand their needs, and utilize digital platforms and social media to reach a wider audience.

Abstract

The presence of development journalists is needed to criticize, study, evaluate, and report on the relevance of development projects. The press, as the fourth pillar of democracy, has a very crucial role in conveying criticism. The research aims to analyze the influence of society's information needs (X1), politics (X2), and government (X3) on the quality of development messages (Y1) and news (Y2). The research methodology uses a mixed-methods approach with a sequential explanation strategy. The  research population covers  television news viewers and observers. The research sample consisted of 110 respondents who were viewers and observers of news broadcasts in mainstream media. The research results show: (1) there is a significant influence between the information need variable based on the community perspective (X1) on the quality of development messages (Y1); (2) there is no significant influence between the variable information needs based on the perspective of the business world (X2), politics (X3), and government (X4) on news quality (Y2), but there is an influence of public information needs (X1) on news quality (Y2). Based on information from press representative institutions, there was a decline in quality caused by: (1) complaints of violations from the Indonesian Broadcasting Institution; (2) less attractive news packaging; (4) social media competition; (5) in-depth news analysis; (6) intervention from stakeholders; (7) lack of cross-sectoral support; and (8) the small compensation received by journalists. In conclusion, information needs based on society's perspective do not influence the quality of development messages but do influence the quality of news.

Abstract

Situ Gede is an ecotourism destination in Bogor City that combines the attractions of a lake ecosystem and a forest. Situ Gede ecotourism is a community-based ecotourism site managed by the Local Kelompok Sadar Wisata (Pokdarwis) Situ Gede. Communication interactions within Pokdarwis generate various fantasy themes, which then form symbolic convergence (Bormann, Cragan, & Shields, 2001). These fantasy themes flow through both offline and online communication via WhatsApp group. This research aims to understand how the fantasy themes formed within Pokdarwis Situ Gede relate to the principles of ecotourism development. This study is qualitative, employing several methods, including virtual ethnography, observation, and interviews. The findings reveal that the rhetorical vision of Pokdarwis Situ Gede can be divided into four pillars: environmental education, conservation, community empowerment, and livelihood enhancement.
