Abstract

Civil society groups and political parties have disagreed with the presidential threshold article passed by Parliament and the government. The regulation is considered to limit the democratic rights and freedom of the public in choosing, determining, and submitting themselves as presidential candidates. This study aims to explain how actors (agencies) build movements against presidential threshold regulations (structure). The theory used in this study is Anthony Giddens' structuration theory. This research uses qualitative methods by analyzing some content in online media and Constitutional Court rulings related to presidential threshold lawsuits and processing data using the Nvivo 12+ application. The findings of this study indicate that the most crucial aspect of the movement against actors is that it is conducted by challenging the presidential threshold rule before the Constitutional Court, developing public opinion, and holding multiple demonstrations. Second, the size of the presidential threshold rejection vote is based on the future of democracy and freedom, weakening the presidential system and contradicting other regulations. Third, of the many lawsuits filed by the public and political parties, the Constitutional Court has consistently rejected them because the rule is an open legal policy, which means fully being a lawmaker, in this case, in Parliament.

Abstract

This study examines the impact of identity-based political marketing on voter interest in Tasikmalaya City for the 2024 Legislative Elections. Using a quantitative research design with a survey approach, data were collected through questionnaires distributed to a randomly selected sample from the city's official voter list. Multiple linear regression analysis was employed to assess the relationship between identity-based political marketing strategies (independent variables) and voter interest (dependent variable). The findings indicate that identity-based political marketing strategies—which include ethnic, religious, and cultural factors—significantly influence voter interest. This underscores the critical role of identity politics in shaping voter preferences in Tasikmalaya City. These results suggest that political parties and legislative candidates should tailor their campaign strategies to align with the local voter identity dynamics. Understanding the complexity of identity politics is essential for political actors to formulate effective and relevant campaign strategies. A deep understanding of how identity factors influence voter engagement can enhance voter participation and promote a more inclusive and representative democratic process. This research provides valuable insights into how identity politics can be strategically leveraged to influence election outcomes.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the influence of civil engagement on the political preferences of the people in Kampung Naga during the 2024 regional head election process. Political preferences can reveal factors that influence a person's decision to participate in the regional head election. The study used a mixed method through the distribution of questionnaires and in-depth interviews with residents of Kampung Naga. The results showed that there was an influence between variables of 19%. This influence is very small. The researcher then studied it using a qualitative research approach. Some of the main reasons include traditional leaders who highly respect and give freedom to the community to choose, social changes in the form of modernization and changes in social values and access to various information such as social media. Factors such as personal preferences, family influences, and access to external information play a bigger role in shaping voter behavior. In the future, there needs to be further attention regarding social and cultural changes that can influence political behavior in traditional village communities. The recommendation in this study is to compare the implementation of elections in other indigenous communities in order to obtain comprehensive information regarding the influence of external culture and leadership on community behavior.
