Abstract

Abstract

Stunting is a condition in which a person's height is less than normal based on age and gender. The prevalence of stunting in Indonesia in 2021 is 24.4%. This illustrates that stunting is still a problem that cannot be resolved in Indonesia. Research on the incidence of stunting was carried out to determine its relationship with insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1) levels. Search results on the Pubmed database obtained 446 English-language articles published from 1993 – April 12, 2023. The results of bibliometric analysis and VOSViewer show that new research trends began to be seen in 2018 to 2023 even though there had been publications previously in 1993 and 2000, but very minimal amount. The most dominating document types were journal articles with 310 publications (69.51%) and reviews with 89 publications (19.96%). The most trending keywords are humans (268), female (176), male (145), animals (142), insulin-like growth factor i/metabolism (94), child (74), adult (60), mice (56), pregnancy (47) and child preschool (43). The publishing journals that published the most articles were Frontiers in Endochronolgy (22 publications), International Journal of Molecular Sciences (19 publications), Scientific Reports (13 publications). The highest number of author collaborations is from the USA with 78 articles being the country with the most collaboration on both SCP and MCP with an MCP to SCP ratio of 0.244. China ranks second with the number of articles of 63 with an MCP ratio of 0.190.

Abstract

Red Fruit (Pandanus conoideus L.) is a typical Papuan plant that is rich in bioactive compounds such as anthocyanins, which have the potential to act as antioxidants. This research aims to analyze the chemical structure of anthocyanin compounds from red fruit ethanol extract using Fourier Transformed Infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy. FTIR is a spectroscopic tool widely used to characterize or detect functional groups and qualitatively identify compounds in samples. Anthocyanins act as antioxidants and have various biological activities such as preventing cancer, cardiovascular disease, and diabetes. Extraction was carried out using the maceration method using 70% ethanol solvent, and characterization was performed using FTIR in the wave range 4000-450 cm⁻¹. The results of the research that has been carried out show that the ethanol extract of red fruit contains secondary metabolites such as flavonoids, alkaloids, and saponins. The FTIR results of red fruit extract show the presence of functional groups characterized by the presence of the O-H, C-O-C, C-O, and C=C functional groups which are important indicators of the antioxidant properties of anthocyanins. This research confirms the potential of Red Fruit as a natural source of anthocyanins which are useful as antioxidants

Abstract

A. cocculus is an endemic plant to Papua, which is often used as medicine. This study aims to determine the antibacterial activity of the ethanol extract of A. cocculus stems against P. acne, S. aureus, and E. coli bacteria. This research also has the potential to be used as a contextual learning resource in biology classes, especially on the topic of antibacterial and secondary metabolite testing, using experimental methods. The antibacterial activity test was carried out using the disk diffusion method, which was performed in 3 concentrations, namely 5%, 10%, and 15%. The positive control used 2 μg of clindamycin antibiotic and 30 μg of chloramphenicol antibiotic; the negative control used Aqua Pro injection. Measurement of the diameter of the inhibition zone shows that A. cocculus extract can inhibit bacterial growth, concentration 5% (P. acnes = 9.18mm/medium; S. aureus = 9.17/medium, and E. coli = 3.91/weak), concentration 10% (P. acnes = 11.86mm/strong; S. aureus = 11.88/strong, and E. coli = 5.17mm/medium), and concentration 15% (P. acnes = 11.56/strong; S. aureus = 12.9/strong, and E. coli = 5.86/medium).

Abstract

Indonesia has abundant natural wealth. One of the endemic plants of Papua which is often used in traditional medicine is yellow rope (A. cocculus). This study aims to determine the antibacterial activity of methanol extract of yellow rope bark (A. cocculus) against P. acnes, S. aureus, and E. coli bacteria using an experimental microbiological approach in the laboratory, and the experiment model may also serve as a contextual laboratory-based learning resource in microbiology education. The antibacterial activity test was carried out using the disc diffusion method which was made in 3 concentrations, namely 5%, 10% and 15%. The results of measuring the diameter of the inhibition zone showed that each concentration was able to inhibit the growth of P. acnes bacteria with an average diameter of 2,816 mm (Weak), 6,733 mm (Medium), 9,333 mm (Medium), and control (+) clindamycin 2 μg 14,483 mm (Strong). S. aureus bacteria with an average diameter of 3.133 mm (Weak), 6.35 mm (Medium), 8.235 mm (Medium) and control (+) clindamycin 2 μg 20.97 mm (Very strong). E. coli bacteria showed an average diameter of 3.875 mm (Weak), 6.175 mm (Medium), 8.566 mm (Medium) and control (+) ciprofloxacin 5 μg 20.783 mm (very strong). This research shows that the methanol extract of yellow stem bark (A. cocculus) has antibacterial activity.
