Abstract

This study highlights the importance of students’ psychological conditions in supporting academic success, particularly in relation to school well-being and achievement motivation. The research involved 127 senior high school students and applied a quantitative correlational approach. Data were collected using Likert-scale instruments measuring school well-being and achievement motivation, and analyzed through Pearson correlation. The findings revealed a positive and significant relationship between the two variables, with most students categorized at high levels of both school well-being and achievement motivation. Further analysis indicated that different dimensions of school well-being contribute differently to motivational aspects, where environmental and social factors are more associated with openness to feedback, while health and facility-related conditions are linked to persistence and creativity. Overall, the results suggest that school well-being plays a meaningful role in shaping students’ achievement motivation and should be considered in efforts to improve educational environments.

Abstract

Learning motivation is an essential determinant of students’ academic achievement and is strongly influenced by the family environment, particularly parenting styles. This study aimed to examine the influence of parenting styles on the learning motivation of eleventh-grade students at SMA Methodist-2 Medan. A quantitative research approach was employed involving 215 students selected from a population of 525 students using proportionate stratified random sampling. Data were analyzed using multiple linear regression analysis after fulfilling statistical assumption tests, including normality, multicollinearity, heteroscedasticity, and autocorrelation tests. The results indicated that parenting styles had a significant effect on students’ learning motivation, as evidenced by an F value of 9.798 with a significance level of p = 0.000 (p < 0.05). The findings further revealed that parenting styles contributed 10.4% to students’ learning motivation, as reflected in the Adjusted R Square value of 0.104, while the remaining 89.6% was influenced by other variables outside the scope of this study. Partial analysis showed that democratic parenting had a positive and significant effect on learning motivation (p = 0.027), authoritarian parenting also demonstrated a positive and significant effect (p = 0.022), and permissive parenting had the strongest positive influence (p = 0.011). These findings indicate that each parenting style may contribute differently to students’ learning motivation when applied in supportive family contexts. The study highlights the importance of parental involvement, emotional support, and balanced communication in fostering students’ motivation to learn. Practically, the results provide valuable insights for parents and schools in developing strategies to strengthen students’ academic motivation and engagement.

With the aid of SPSS Statistics 22 for Windows, the Pearson Product Moment Correlation was used to analyze the data. The analysis’s findings indicate a positive and substantial association between school climate and student engagement, with a Pearson correlation value of 0.668 and significance value (p-value) of 0.000 (p<0.05). The coefficient of determination (R2) was 0.446, indicating that school climate contributed 44.6% to student engagement, with additional factors not included in this study influencing the remaining 55.4%. These results demonstrate how crucial school climate is to raising high school students’ levels of engagement. The R Square value obtained is 0.039. Abstract

This study was motivated by the difficulties first-year students experience in adjusting, particularly in terms of adapting, making friends, and understanding new learning patterns. In this context, self-efficacy was hypothesized to play a crucial role. This study aimed to examine the relationship between self-efficacy and adjustment among first-year undergraduate students at Battuta University. A quantitative approach was employed using a disproportionate stratified random sampling technique. The respondents consisted of 227 students. Data were collected using a Likert scale instrument and subsequently analyzed using the Pearson Product-Moment correlation technique. The analysis results indicated a correlation coefficient of r = 0,243, suggesting a positive and significant relationship between the two variables. However, this study is limited by its exclusive focus on internal factors (self-efficacy) without incorporating external factors, such as social support. Therefore, it is recommended that the university establish orientation or counseling programs focused on enhancing the self-efficacy of newly enrolled students, and that future researchers explore other external variables.
