Abstract

This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of three extraction methods (maceration, soxhletation, and reflux) in obtaining bioactive compounds from Red Fern (Stenochlaena palutris), which is known to have therapeutic potential. The methods used included cold extraction (maceration) and hot extraction (soxhletation, reflux) with ethanol solvent, which was chosen because of its ability to dissolve polar and nonpolar compounds. The maceration method produced the highest yield of 15.4002% with extraction for 72 hours without heating, which maintained the stability of the active compounds. In contrast, the soxhletation and reflux methods produced yields of 2% and 10%, respectively, possibly due to degradation of the active compounds due to heating. Phytochemical screening showed the presence of alkaloids, flavonoids, tannins, saponins, steroids, and terpenoids in the resulting extracts. FTIR assay identified various important functional groups such as hydroxyl (-OH), alkanes, and C-O in all extraction methods. and the determination of the total alkaloid content obtained was 1.066335% while the total flavonoid content obtained was 4.652425%. So from the data it can be seen that the total Flavonoid compound is greater than the Alkaloid compound

Abstract

Background: Papua has high biodiversity with significant potential as a source of traditional medicinal plants, including Nelambo suon (Rubiaceae), which has been empirically used by local communities. However, scientific information regarding the active compounds in its stem bark remains limited. Objective: This study aimed to identify the secondary metabolite groups present in the ethanol extract of Nelambo suon stem bark through phytochemical screening. Methods: The research was conducted experimentally using the maceration method with 80% ethanol as the solvent. The stem bark simplicia was extracted and qualitatively screened for alkaloids, flavonoids, tannins, and saponins using specific reagents. Results: The results showed that the ethanol extract of Nelambo suon stem bark contained alkaloids, flavonoids, tannins, and saponins, indicated by characteristic color changes, precipitate formation, and foam production. Conclusion: These findings suggest that Nelambo suon stem bark is a potential source of bioactive compounds and may be further developed as a herbal medicinal material based on local wisdom.

Abstract

Abstract

The plant S. myrtifolium Walp, also known as red shoots, is an ornamental plant with characteristic red easy leaves and green old leaves. This plant is known to contain active compounds that have potential as pharmacological agents, especially anti-inflammatory. The purpose of this study was to identify the anti-inflammatory activity of ethanol extract of red shoot leaves (S. myrtifolium Walp) against white rats (Rattus norvegicus) using several dose variations. The population in this study was the red shoots leaf plant (Syzygium myrtifolium Walp) obtained from Mariat Pantai Village, Sorong Regency. While the samples used in this study were red shoot leaves (Syzygium myrtifolium Walp) which were taken fresh green leaves. The results of phytochemical analysis identified the presence of alkaloid, flavonoid, tannin, saponin and phenol compounds. The test data were analyzed using ANOVA method followed by Paired Sample T test and LSD test to determine the presence and absence of differences from before treatment and after treatment. The test results showed that red shoot leaf extract has anti-inflammatory activity against white rats significantly at doses of 200 mg / kg BW, 300 mg / kgBB and 450 mg / kgBB.
