Abstract

High degree of uric acid into blood or called hyperurecemia, could be caused by increasing of uric acid production, but excretion of uric acid that passed through renal decreased. Effort for overcoming, it was used drug that have diuretic effect. Bay leave was one of plant that can be used as diuretic. This study aimed to know ability bay leave (Eugenia polyantha W) to increase excretion of uric acid at male rats. This study was experimental laboratory study with pre and post control group design and used 30 sample male rats. The samples were divided into 6 groups. Before treatment urine of samples were taken in tubes for 24 hours. Then, samples were treated with high purin feeding and given bay leaves extract twice a day for 5 days. At 6th day, urine of samples were collected and centrifuged for getting urine sediment. They were observed and counted amount of uric acid sediment that use microscope. Result of anova test showed there are differences significantly amount of uric acid sediment for 24 hours at male rat urines, after they are given bay leaves extract in many dozes, aquadest sterile, and probenesid (p < 0,005). Bay leaves have ability to increase amount of uric acid excreation. Flavonoid that be contented in bay leaves can increase catch point in renal for producting urine and decrease reabsorbsion of uric acid through proximale kontortus tubule of renal, so excretion uric acid sediment increase. Flavonoid also had antioxidane effect that can inhibit xantine oxidase enzyme and reaction of superoxide, so formation uric acis is lower or inhibit. Conclution this study is infusa of bay leaves 100 % in many dozes cab increase excretion of uric acid sediment at male rats.

Abstract

Diabetes mellitus is one of major chronic health problems and the prevalence increases every year. Poor blood glucose control or uncontrolled hyperglycemia condition is the major reason diabetes mellitus can cause some complication in oral. As of this condition, numerous diabetes mellitus sufferers have poor quality of life because inadequate in mastication. For improving quality of life diabetic patients, they need denture to help them in mastication process. However, there some debates about denture for diabetic patients; because diabetes mellitus can be contraindication in prosthodontic treatment. Aim this study is to know the management in prosthodontic treatment of diabetic patients as rehabilitation and final treatment in dentistry. Diabetes mellitus patient management in prosthodontic are generally as followed medical history, check up blood glucose level, stress management, intra oral and radiography examination, oral and denture hygiene, diet consultation and denture elective. All of type of dental prosthesis can be considered to diabetic patients principally. Type of dental prosthesis that can be worn by diabetic patients are removable denture (partial and complete), fixed denture, overdenture, and implant. Pre treatment before making and inserting dental prosthesis must be finished. If there is dental caries, dental caries must be restored by appropriate restoration, such as filling, endodontic treatment, rigid restoration, etc. Moreover, the dentist must do plaque and calculus removing. The conclusion of this review is diabetes mellitus could be considered to take prosthodontic treatment, but the dentist must consider their blood glucose level.

Abstract

Stunting is a growth failure due to malnutrition in the first thousand days of a child's life, affecting growth and development during adulthood. The prevalence of stunting in the Bondowoso Regency reached the national prevalence, about 38%. One of the causes is inadequate nutrition of the mother during pregnancy. Malnutrition in pregnant women induces anemia, especially iron deficiency. This condition affects infant growth and development. The public health center regularly gives pregnant women iron tablets to prevent it. However, not all pregnant women are aware of the advantage of good nutrition and iron tablets. This study aimed to examine changes in aspects of health, knowledge, and behavior in anemia pregnant women after specific nutrition interventions, education, and mentoring. This study was qualitative with a case study design, which used in-depth interviews and direct observation toward respondents and assistance to three anemia pregnant women in Cindogo Village, Bondowoso Regency. The data collected were primary and secondary about respondents’ health status, knowledge of nutrition, and behavior of living style. The data obtained were analyzed descriptively. The result showed that before education, the respondents were not aware of their nutrition. However, after intervention and mentoring, they know about the advantages of nutrition and iron tablets and are also aware of their health and infants. Abstract

Background: Menopause is physiological condition signed estrogen deficiency. Porphyromonas gingivalis (Pg), Gram-negative bacteria, and the products might induce estrogen deficiency. Estrogen is a sex steroid hormone played an essential role in bone remodeling. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of Pg infection to menopause on the mechanical strength of the mandible and the femur. Following this study, we suggested that there were efforts to improve the health of oral, reproductive, and bones, particularly improving women's quality of life. This study was an experimental laboratory by post-test only control group design.Method: This study used female Wistar rats (Rattus norvegicus) divided into four groups. The groups were the control group (K), ovariectomy (OVX), Pg- induced (PG), and Pg-induced ovariectomy (OPG). OVX indicated ovarian dysfunction due to physiological processes. PG indicated experimental animals infected with Pg bacteria which was suspected of causing ovarian dysfunction. OPG indicated that experimental animals infected with Pg bacteria were in a state of menopause. A three-point bending test analyzed bone strength. Result: The results showed that the average mechanical strength of the mandibular bone in the control group and the treatment group had a significant difference (p<0.05), but there was no significant difference between the strength of the femur bone between the control group and the PG group (p>0.05).Conclusion: Pg infection in menopause triggered a decrease in the mechanical strength of bones, especially the mandibular bone.

Abstract

Background: Periodontitis is periodontal tissue inflammation due to Porphyromonas gingivalis which invades the gingival tissue due to the activity of virulence factors. This causes the host immune system changes and increases MMP-8 production in periodontal tissue so resulting excessive tissue destruction. Cocoa pod rind containing proanthocyanidin compound as anti-inflammatory drugs is given to reduce MMP-8 and cure periodontitis. Objective: To examine the effect of proanthocyanidin extract of cocoa pod rind (Theobroma cacao L.) on decreasing MMP-8 expression in gingival tissue of periodontitis rats model. Materials and Methods: The samples used were 16 male Wistar rats divided into 2 groups, placebo gel for the control group and proanthocyanidins gel for the treatment group. ). Each group was induced by P.gingivalis bacteria every 3 days for 14 days and then smeared with placebo gel and proanthocyanidin gel for 7 and 14 days. Then all rats’ gingival tissue were taken and made preparations to be observed under a microscope and analyzed using immunoratio software. Result: There were differences in MMP-8 expression based on observation time (p<0.05). MMP-8 expression in the 7th day control group was lower than the 14th day and MMP-8 expression in the 7th day treatment group was higher than the 14th day. Conclusion: Proanthocyanidin of cocoa pod rind extract (Theobroma cacao L.) can reduce MMP-8 expression in gingival tissue of periodontitis rats model.

Abstract

Periodontitis is a disease of periodontal tissue, one of which is caused by Porphyromonas gingivalis (P.gingivalis). P.gingivalis causes alveolar bone destruction by triggering macrophages and PMNs to release proinflammatory cytokines. Osteoblasts and osteoclasts play a role in alveolar bone remodeling. Decreased osteoblasts and increased osteoclasts resulted in the inhibited remodeling process. Periodontitis can be slowed down with cassava leaves. The purpose of this study was to examine the effectiveness of cassava leaves on the number of osteoblasts and osteoclasts in a rat model of periodontitis. This research is an experimental laboratory with a post-test-only control group design. The samples were male Wistar rats which were divided into (1) control (K) and (2) treatment induced by P.gingivalis. the treatment group was divided into aquadest (P1), metronidazole (P2), and cassava leaves (P3). Euthanasia was performed for the preparation of histopathological preparations with Hematoxylin Eosin (HE) staining. Observations with a microscope magnification 400x. The results of the calculation of the number of osteoblasts and osteoclasts between groups of cassava leaves and metronidazole were almost the same, so it was said that cassava leaves were effective in increasing the number of osteoblasts and reducing the number of osteoclasts in a rat model of periodontitis. Keywords: osteoblasts; osteoclast;  periodontitis; metronidazole; cassava leaves
