Abstract

David's courage in fighting Goliath can be an example for us Christians today, so that we as Christians have the courage to face the challenges we will face in life. David had to fight the Philistines who came armed with swords, spears and javelins and also had to fight Goliath, a giant. However, he came in the name of the Lord of the worlds. David's victory was not only due to his strength or skill in fighting but because of his firm faith and also because of God's guidance. Therefore, we as Christians must have firm faith that we can overcome the challenges and problems we will face because God's presence is always there. The purpose of this writing is how David's victory in his faith contributed to the attitude of Christians in facing challenges today. The research method used is literature study, namely a research method that collects data from existing sources.

Abstract

The story of Job in Job 2:1-10 and its relevance in facing life's trials. The aim of this research is to understand whether Job’s life experience can be a weapon for us to face life’s trials today. The research method used in this research is the theme of the story of Job in Job 2:1-10 and its relevance in facing life’s trials. Life tests are a series of challenges and trials that we face in the course of our lives, because humans are God’s most perfect creatures and are destined to face various life tests. When facing suffering or trials in Christian life today, the character of Job becomes an inspiration for those who face difficult and unexplainable situations. This suffering ultimately led to a deeper understanding of God as stated by Job himself. Despite experiencing tremendous loss, Job remained steadfast in his faith in God.  His attitude of choosing to surrender himself to God’s existence and trust in His better plans is an inspiration for believers today to remain strong in their faith when facing suffering. Suffering is not a sign that someone has been forgotten or punished by God, but is part of a test of faith that shapes character and increases spiritual maturity. The story of Job, Job 2:1-10, Reflection on life today.

Abstract

Abstract

The Sara Douda dance is a form of oral tradition of cultural arts that combines movement elements from the original dance of the Loli community accompanied by energetic traditional music, namely gongs and drums, as a powerful medium for expressing the experience of faith, namely thanksgiving to the Almighty for giving His grace in the life of Loli society. Sara Douda is full of verbal and non-verbal symbols, rich in meaning, messages and cultural values for the Loli community, used for social interaction and is also an expression of faith to the Highest. To obtain the meaning of symbols in Sara Douda cultural poetry, the author used qualitative methods to search for information related to Sara Douda tradition by conducting interviews in the Tarung-Loli village of West Sumba. The aim of this research is to obtain an overview of the essence, form and meaning of the Sara Douda cultural symbol as a form of expression of art, culture and faith of the Loli people in the study of Contextual Theology with Paul Tillich's perspective which is packaged in the title "Sara Douda Symbol: Expression of Art, Culture and Faith of the Loli Community West Sumba”. Sara Douda is a cultural symbol of the Loli people and also a symbol of their faith. Religious symbols allow individuals to access Divine reality and express their experiences of faith within a cultural context. The verbal and nonverbal symbols in Sara Douda show the Loli Community's faith and belief in God, the Creator of heaven and earth as in the phrase of Ama wolo Ama rawi. Their offerings of praise and expressions of gratitude have been expressed through poetry in the form of couplets and lines as well as beautiful dances from time to time, from generation to generation until now. It can be said that the essence of Sara Douda culture is a means for Loli people to carry out theology contextually in social life.

Abstract

This study examines theologically the practice of giving dowry in Sumbanese weddings. This tradition has been passed down from generation to generation and is often associated with church weddings. Various responses to dowry, especially from Christians, are the main focus. The method used is a literature study, with the object of study being the giving of dowry in the marriages of biblical figures such as Isaac and Rebekah, Jacob and Rachel, David and Michal, and Shechem and Dinah. The theological reflections produced include: First, dowry in the Bible functions as a sign of appreciation for women and their families. Second, dowry is not coercion, but rather a way for men to show love for their future wives. Thus, dowry in Sumbanese culture does not conflict with Christian faith and has a positive value for helping each other. The implications include: First, dowry must be in accordance with the man's ability. Second, dowry should not be used as a tool to fulfill personal ambitions. Payment of dowry should be for the common good. Third, dowry must be given in an honorable manner, without justifying any means to prove the ability to pay dowry at a high price.

Abstract

Cultural diversity in Indonesia acts as a catalyst for tolerance and the formation of a diverse society with values rooted in religion, local wisdom, and cultural heritage. However, the low level of spiritual understanding and inadequate cultural integration in East Nusa Tenggara have triggered the emergence of cases that disregard the human life cycle, such as the prevalence of abortion and suicide, as well as social and economic pressures that undermine the mental well-being of the community. Previous research delved into the local wisdom of the Timorese community, the historical aspects of the Timorese culture, and the Toit Ulan Ritual in Central Amanuban. This study focuses on the beliefs of Atoni Pah Meto in the Banamas Neonsaet (East Amanuban), exploring its cultural heritage and local beliefs. It aims to understand the impact of ceremonies on each life stage from the perspective of their local wisdom that contributing to the preservation of the community’s mental well-being. Utilizing qualitative methods and a phenomenological approach involving community leaders, the study employs observation, interviews, and documentation, with subsequent data reduction, presentation, and verification. Findings highlight that life-cycle ceremonies reflect values of familial bonds, cooperation, and harmony with nature. Marriage and funeral processes involve family roles in maintaining spirituality and warding off spiritual disturbances. Despite the influence of formal religion, traces of traditional beliefs persist, shaping a unique identity that harmonizes cultural heritage and religion. The research underscores the importance of preserving and understanding this cultural richness for the sustainability and harmony of the Atoni Pah Meto in the East Amanuban. Key words: East Amanuban, Ceremony, Life Cycle, Local Wisdom, Atoni Pah Meto.

Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

This study aims to describe the forms of congregation participation in the Cultural Month celebration at GMIT Bukit Kalvari Nunuteta and its implications for the preservation of local culture. In the context of globalization that threatens the existence of traditional cultures, the church is viewed as a key agent in sustaining the cultural identity of its members. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, data were collected through in-depth interviews, participatory observations, and documentation. The findings reveal that congregational participation spans all stages of activity—from planning, implementation, benefit utilization, to evaluation. This involvement is not merely symbolic but active and spiritual, reflecting the integration of faith and culture in church life. The Cultural Month serves not only as a means of inculturation but also strengthens the collective awareness of the congregation regarding the importance of transmitting local cultural values across generations. The study recommends reinforcing culturally based church ministry strategies to support the sustainable preservation of local heritage.
