Abstract

Abstract

This study examines the dynamics of social capital within an Islamic business community of pesantren alumni, using the Forum Bisnis (FORBIS) of the Ikatan Alumni Pondok Modern (IKPM) Yogyakarta as a case study. Employing a qualitative approach with a case study design, data were collected through in-depth interviews, observations, and document analysis. The findings reveal that bonding social capital among FORBIS members is exceptionally strong, shaped by pesantren values such as brotherhood (ukhuwah), discipline, and internal trust. However, this bonding strength has not been effectively transformed into bridging or linking social capital. Key obstacles include psychological factors (feelings of hesitation and inferiority), cultural factors (conservative interpretations of adab), structural barriers (the absence of formal mechanisms for external relations), and the limited readiness of members’ businesses to enter formal networks. Consequently, social capital remains concentrated at the internal level and has not yet functioned as a strategic resource for expanding market access, partnerships, or institutional collaboration. This study highlights the need to strengthen organizational structures, develop business incubation programs, and establish linking mechanisms utilizing senior alumni networks to enhance the productive conversion of social capital within FORBIS and support the development of Islamic business ecosystems.

The most prioritized sub-elements of the pentahelix aspect indicators, according to the respondents' agreement, are government support (government element) and knowledge and understanding of halal (business actor element). It indicates that government assistance is a priority due to its significant regulatory role in ensuring simple procedures and compliance with halal standards. In conclusion, the priority rank of determinant of pentahelix found is business actor (first rank), media (second rank), government (third rank), academia (fourth rank), and community (fifth rank). The study suggests that business actors play a crucial role in developing the halal industry, which may be enhanced in terms of their halal literacy and knowledge of halal products. Abstract

Consumer behavior that has a lot of consumptive tendencies makes this pattern incompatible with consumption in the Islamic economics. Society has the ideology of consuming excessively, unknowingly, and sustainably. Purchases of goods are only based on desires and do not consider needs, so it is necessary to enforce consumption patterns so that they do not fall into the excessive category. The research methodology used is a literature study method by conducting an in-depth reading analysis of various references related to consumer behavior, especially examining various existing literature works. Researchers reviewed several books written by Al Ghazali and several related figures to obtain additional analysis in this research. The results of this research indicate that the consumption theory according to Al Ghazali is not only oriented to satisfaction. Consumption in Islam is more to make people more obedient in worship. Humans are not required to meet their needs sporadically but must comply with sharia principles. Other important things by paying attention to halal, good and mashlahah for the goods they consume.  Keywords: Consumer behavior, Islamic Economics, Society, Al-Ghazali
