Abstract

Abstract

Background: Sailing safety is a crucial aspect of maritime activities, especially for fishermen who face a high risk of accidents at sea. The problems encountered in the Tanakeke Islands demonstrate the low level of attention to the availability of safety equipment on board vessels, which has resulted in a high number of accidents. Objective: This study aims to determine fishermen's perceptions of the availability of safety equipment and its impact on sailing safety. Methods: The research method used was descriptive qualitative, with data collected through observation, interviews, documentation, and questionnaires from 29 fishermen. Results: The study showed that most fishermen had a positive perception of the importance of safety equipment, with an average score of 79.34, although cultural beliefs persist that the provision of safety equipment is considered unconventional. The main factors contributing to accidents include extreme weather conditions and technical damage to vessels. Efforts to improve safety are being carried out through outreach, vessel repairs, and increased awareness among fishermen. Conclusion: The conclusion of this study indicates that the availability of safety equipment plays a crucial role in supporting sailing safety, but increased awareness and adequate facilities are still needed.

Abstract

Marine tourism development requires accurate information regarding marine environmental conditions and navigational safety. However, many coastal tourism areas in Indonesia still rely on conventional observation methods that are limited, fragmented, and difficult to access in real time. This study aims to develop a clean energy-based information system capable of mapping marine environmental conditions and supporting navigational safety for sustainable marine tourism. The system integrates environmental sensors, Global Positioning System (GPS), Geographic Information System (GIS), and renewable energy sources through solar-powered monitoring stations. The research employed a Research and Development (R&D) method consisting of needs analysis, system design, prototype development, implementation, and evaluation. Data were collected from temperature, salinity, wave height, wind speed, water level, and vessel route monitoring. The resulting system provides spatial visualization, hazard alerts, route recommendations, and environmental status information through a web-based dashboard. The implementation results indicate that the system can improve the effectiveness of marine environmental monitoring and increase navigation safety in tourism areas. Furthermore, the use of solar energy supports sustainable operation in remote coastal locations with limited electricity access.

Abstract

Internet of Things (IoT)-based monitoring systems are increasingly being adopted across various sectors, including aquaculture. Shrimp farming, in particular, relies on a stable energy supply to operate aeration and water circulation systems. Solar panels offer an efficient renewable energy solution; however, their optimal performance requires continuous and reliable monitoring. This study aims to design and implement an IoT-based monitoring system to track solar panel performance in shrimp farms, thereby enhancing energy utilization efficiency. The system integrates sensors for current, voltage, temperature, and light intensity with a microcontroller and an IoT platform for real-time data acquisition and analysis. The test results demonstrate that the system effectively provides accurate and timely information on solar panel performance, enabling early detection of efficiency losses and prompt maintenance actions. The implementation of this system is expected to increase energy resilience and operational efficiency in shrimp farming operations. By combining IoT technology with renewable energy monitoring, this research offers a practical and scalable solution tailored for remote aquaculture environments. Additionally, the study highlights the feasibility of using low-cost hardware and open-source platforms, making the system accessible for broader application, particularly in developing regions. This contribution supports the advancement of sustainable and energy-efficient aquaculture practices through innovative, technology-driven approaches.
