Abstract

The elderly population has shown an increase compared to the previous year. Along with this increase in the number of elderly, non-communicable diseases (NCDs), especially heart disease, have become one of the largest contributors to the decline in elderly health. To anticipate delays in treatment, educational breakthroughs are needed to encourage the public to detect early and adopt anticipatory lifestyle habits to better control triggers of heart disease. The purpose of this education is to determine the level of elderly knowledge about heart disease using the game method. Games are one approach to stimulate the elderly's brain. Based on the results of the activity, the level of elderly knowledge before the education was obtained, 19 of 30 elderly (63%) had sufficient knowledge. After the education, 27 (90%) elderly had good knowledge. The methods used during the education were games, questions and answers, and competitions. Games are the method of choice in increasing elderly knowledge because the method is presented in an interesting and easily accepted manner. This method can be an option for local community leaders in developing activity programs when providing education to the elderly.

Abstract

Introduction:  Premature infants with low birth weight and immature organ often require a long length of stay (LOS) at the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), which results in increased costs, risk of infection, and burden on hospital resources. Objectives:  This study aims to analyze the length of stay of premature infants at the NICU of Hospital X in Surabaya. Methods:  An analytical observational study with a cross-sectional design. Sample: 51 premature infants treated at the NICU of Hospital X in Surabaya (total sampling). Independent variables: gestational age, birth weight, APGAR score, and nutrition; dependent variable: LOS. Analysis data use : Chi-Square and multiple logistic regression in SPSS 25. Statistical significance was considered at 0.05. Results:  The majority of infants (68.7%) had a long LOS (≥21 days). The Chi-Square test showed that gestational age (p=0.032), birth weight (p=0.018), APGAR score (p=0.044), and nutrition (p=0.021) were significantly associated with LOS. Multivariate analysis found that the dominant factor was birth weight <2500 g (OR=4.1; p=0.015), followed by gestational age <32 weeks (OR=2.6; p=0.048) and inadequate nutrition (OR=2.8; p=0.034). Conclusions:  LOS in premature infants is mainly influenced by low birth weight, low gestational age, and inadequate nutrition. Efforts to improve early nutrition, close monitoring of VLBW (Very Low Birth Weight) infants, and comprehensive clinical interventions can reduce LOS and the socioeconomic impact on families.

Abstract

Background: knowledge can influence attitudes and awareness of community preparedness. Preparedness is a series of individual and community activities that can respond to disasters appropriately and effectively, especially for people who live in disaster-prone areas. Jember Regency is an area that has a high risk of earthquakes and tsunamis. This study aimed to determine the correlation between knowledge and the level of community preparedness in facing earthquake and tsunami disasters in RW 05 Sidorejo Village, Umbulsari District, Jember. This study aimed to determine the correlation between knowledge and the level of community preparedness in facing earthquake and tsunami disasters. Methods: this study used a correlation design with a cross-sectional approach. The sampling technique used was simple random sampling with a sample size of 42 respondents. The research instrument was a questionnaire to measure respondents' knowledge and individual/household preparedness survey questions from LIPI-UNESCO. The statistical test used in this study was Spearman rank correlations with a significance level of ? = <0.05. Results: the results showed that: there is a moderate positive correlation between knowledge and the level of community preparedness in facing earthquake and tsunami disasters. Conclusions: the level of community preparedness is quite good. However, when viewed from the factor of knowledge about disasters, there are still respondents from low preparedness who have low knowledge about disasters, so efforts are needed to improve community preparedness, namely by increasing knowledge and skills in dealing with earthquake and tsunami disasters through cooperation between the village head and BPBD to conduct disaster preparedness training socialization to the community.
