Abstract

Physics learning in senior high schools often faces challenges due to monotonous teaching methods and a lack of interesting media, resulting in low student interest and learning outcomes. This study aims to determine the effect of implementing the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model supported by Powtoon-based assessment media on students' physics learning outcomes. Powtoon provides visual animations that can improve students' conceptual understanding. This study employed a quasi-experimental method with a post-test only control group design. The subjects were 72 eleventh-grade students at Arjasa State High School, randomly divided into 36 students in the experimental group and 36 students in the control group. The independent variable in this study was the PBL model with Powtoon media, the dependent variable was students' physics learning outcomes, and the control variables were the same topic and duration of instruction. The instrument used was a test consisting of essay questions. Data analysis was conducted using an independent sample t-test with a significance level of 0.05. The results of the study indicate a significant difference between the learning outcomes of students in the experimental group and the control group, with the experimental group achieving higher scores. Therefore, it can be concluded that the implementation of the PBL model with Powtoon as an assessment medium has a positive effect on students' physics learning outcomes. This approach can be used by teachers to enhance students' conceptual understanding and engagement in physics learning.

Abstract

The integration of artificial intelligence (AI) in the field of science education can facilitate two key objectives: firstly, it can assist teachers in the creation of innovative teaching materials, and secondly, it can enhance the learning experience, making it more engaging and effective. A challenge arises when science teachers, MGMP IPA SMP Northern Region members of Jember, lack the requisite skills to utilize technology effectively. As a solution, teachers are provided with training in the development of AI-based media. The service activities were conducted using the Participatory Action Research (PAR) approach, with the methods employed comprising lectures, discussions, questions and answers, and practical sessions accompanied by the presentation of results. The results of the service activities demonstrated that the participants exhibited a comprehensive understanding of the advantages of AI technology, demonstrated proficiency in utilizing a range of AI-based media, and exhibited the capacity to independently develop AI-based media. Consequently, it can be concluded that through this service activity, it is possible to facilitate changes in teachers' skills, particularly in their ability to utilize technology, with a particular focus on AI-based technologies.

Abstract

Pendahuluan: Karakteristik Kurikulum Merdeka mencakup pengembangan keterampilan sosial dan karakter, penekanan pada materi yang fundamental, serta pembelajaran yang bersifat fleksibel sesuai kebutuhan dan gaya belajar siswa. Pengembangan keterampilan sosial dan karakter ini dilaksanakan melalui Proyek Penguatan Profil Pelajar Pancasila (P5). Namun, pemahaman dan keterampilan guru dalam menerapkan differentiated instruction sebagai salah satu pendekatan pembelajaran pendukung keberhasilan program Kurikulum Merdeka belajar masih minim. Program pengabdian ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan pemahaman dan keterampilan guru MGMP IPA terkait P5 sekaligus menganalisis respon guru selama kegiatan pelatihan. Metode: metode pengabdian Masyarakat yang digunakan adalah Service Learning (SL) dengan basis Experiential Learning, yang melibatkan tiga tahap, yaitu persiapan, pelaksanaan, dan evaluasi. Data diperoleh melalui pretest, posttest, dan angket respon guru. Data yang telah terkumpul kemudian dianalisis secara deskriptif dengan menghitung N-gain berbantuan software SPSS. Analisis data menunjukkan nilai N-Gain sebesar 0,45, berada dalam kategori sedang. Hasil: ini menandakan bahwa pelatihan memberikan dampak yang cukup efektif terhadap peningkatan pemahaman dan keterampilan guru. Selain itu, hasil angket respon guru menunjukkan nilai rata-rata sebesar 93,87%, berada dalam kategori respon sangat baik. Kesimpulan: Hasil evaluasi ini menunjukkan bahwa program pelatihan telah memberikan kontribusi yang positif terhadap peningkatan kompetensi profesional guru IPA dalam pembelajaran menggunakan differentiated instruction sebagai upaya menguatkan profil pelajar Pancasila.

Abstract

The rapid development of digital media, especially the habit of watching short videos on platforms such as TikTok, has had a major impact on the way of learning in the world of education. This situation is a challenge, especially in maintaining and improving students' enthusiasm for learning in science subjects. This study aims to: (1) find out how often students are exposed to TikTok short videos; (2) analyze how such exposure relates to motivation to learn science; and (3) develop flexible science learning strategies to increase learning motivation in the era of high digital content consumption. This study uses a survey method with a descriptive quantitative approach. Data was collected through questionnaires that contained questions about how often students use TikTok, how students view science learning, and students' levels of motivation to learn. It is hoped that the results of this study can illustrate the relationship between the habit of watching short videos and students' learning motivation, so that it can be used as a basis for developing science learning strategies that are more appropriate and relevant to current conditions

Abstract

Modelling instruction is systematic instructional activity for constructing and applying scientific knowledge in Physics lesson. The purpose of this research is to determine the effect of Modelling instruction with different reasoning abilities on understanding physical concepts by controlling students’ prior knowledge. This research used experimental method with 2x2 factorial design with two Modelling instruction classes and two conventional classes with a total of 176 students. The instrument used was reasoning ability test, prior knowledge test, and physics concept test. It used LCTSR (Lawson’s Classroom Test of Scientific Reasoning) instrument. Prior knowledge test instruments consisted of 25 problems to identify how deep the students understand the topic before they undergo the learning process and physics concept test consisted of 25 problems. Based on the statistical test using two factor Ancova, it proved that there was a significant difference in students’ ability to master the physics concept between using Modelling instruction learning model and using conventional learning model. The result showed that the Modelling instruction increasing conceptual understanding better than conventional learning. There are two important parts in the Modelling instruction that are model development and model deployment. This study also confirms that there are significant differences in understanding the concepts between students of high reasoning ability and low reasoning ability. Students with high reasoning abilities have a better understanding of concepts than students with low reasoning abilities.

Abstract

Pada abad ke-21, kemampuan berpikir kritis merupakan keterampilan yang sangat esensial, terutama dalam mendukung siswa dalam menemukan solusi dan memahami konsep ilmiah secara mendalam. Penelitian ini memiliki tujuan untuk mengevaluasi kemampuan berpikir kritis siswa dalam memahami serta mengaplikasikan konsep Hukum Newton dalam pembelajaran fisika. Metode penelitian ini melalui pendekatan deskriptif kualitatif dengan subjek penelitian siswa kelas X di tingkat SMA. Pengumpulan data dilakukan melalui tes esai yang disusun berdasarkan lima indikator keterampilan berpikir kritis menurut Ennis, yaitu: menjelaskan secara sederhana, membangun keterampilan dasar, menarik kesimpulan, mengembangkan penjelasan lanjutan, serta merancang strategi dan taktik. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa rata-rata kemampuan berpikir kritis siswa dalam materi Hukum Newton berada pada kategori rendah, dengan persentase sebesar 53,84%. Indikator dengan nilai tertinggi adalah kemampuan menarik kesimpulan (65,6%), sedangkan nilai terendah terdapat pada indikator mengembangkan penjelasan lanjutan (1,6%). Hasil temuan ini mengindikasikan perlunya penerapan strategi pembelajaran yang berfokus pada pengembangan keterampilan berpikir kritis, seperti model pembelajaran (Problem-Based Learning) atau pembelajaran inkuiri (Inquiry Learning), guna meningkatkan keterampilan berpikir kritis pada siswa dalam pembelajaran fisika.

Abstract

This study aimed to develop and validate an assessment instrument to measure students’ understanding of Newton’s laws and their nationalism attitudes. The instrument consisted of 15 essay questions on Newton’s laws and a 30-item Likert-scale questionnaire on nationalism attitudes. Content validity was evaluated by eight experts (lecturers, teachers, and peers) using Aiken’s V index, showing high validity. Empirical validation was conducted with 275 students from public senior high schools in Bima Regency, West Nusa Tenggara. Data were analyzed using Item Response Theory with the Partial Credit Model (PCM) via QUEST. Results indicated that all concept understanding items fit the PCM criteria, with acceptable reliability values ranging from 0.72 to 0.98. For the nationalism instrument, 29 items met the fit criteria, while one item was rejected. Overall, the developed instruments demonstrated strong validity and reliability, and are suitable for assessing both cognitive understanding of Newton’s laws and students’ nationalism attitudes.

Abstract

The integration of technology, particularly Artificial Intelligence (AI), into learning assessment plays a pivotal role in improving the effectiveness of education. However, the digital competence gap has caused teachers at MTs. Hidayatul Mubtadi’in Jember will still predominantly use conventional assessments. This community service program aims to improve teachers’ professional competencies in designing AI-based assessment instruments. The implementation method combines the development of 4D model materials (Define, Design, Develop, Disseminate) with Direct Instruction and Cooperative Learning model training, which 22 teachers followed. The evaluation instruments included an AI assessment guidebook validation sheet, competency tests, and participant satisfaction questionnaires. The results of the activity show that the developed AI Assessment Guidebook is valid, with a score of 82.00. The effectiveness of the training is evident from the high level of participant understanding, with an average post-test score of 88.67 and a participant satisfaction rating of 89.56 (Very Good). Implicitly, this training significantly contributed to developing teacher competency, as participants can now independently create a variety of questions and assessment rubrics using AI. This program recommends continuous technological adaptation to support the digital madrasah (Islamic school) ecosystem.
