Abstract

The prevailing pedagogical approach in class X SMA entails the utilization of questions from LKS or books, thereby engendering suboptimal student engagement and learning outcomes in physics. This study posits the necessity for pedagogues to enhance their lesson planning and media utilization in the classroom, with the objective of facilitating innovative Problem Based Learning (PBL) models accompanied by crossword puzzles. The present study aims to elucidate the enhancement of activity and learning outcomes of X grade high school students through the implementation of the PBL model accompanied by crossword puzzle media. The subject of this research is class X 2 SMAN 5 Jember. This research employed a Classroom Action Research approach, which was conducted in two cycles, each comprising four stages: planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. The results of the first cycle were used as a reference for the implementation of the second cycle, with improvements made to address the weaknesses identified in the first cycle. The findings of this study revealed that the implementation of the PBL model, coupled with the incorporation of a crossword puzzle, resulted in a 0.60 increase in student learning outcomes in cycle 1. Subsequent to cycle 2, there was an augmentation in the average student learning outcomes to 0.76 Furthermore, the analysis of learning activities in cycle 1 revealed an active category, while cycle 2 exhibited an increase, including an increase in the very active category. Consequently, it can be deduced that the implementation of the PBL model, integrated with a crossword puzzle, has led to a twofold enhancement in the activity and learning outcomes of physics students at SMAN 5 Jember.

Abstract

Physics learning in senior high schools often faces challenges due to monotonous teaching methods and a lack of interesting media, resulting in low student interest and learning outcomes. This study aims to determine the effect of implementing the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model supported by Powtoon-based assessment media on students' physics learning outcomes. Powtoon provides visual animations that can improve students' conceptual understanding. This study employed a quasi-experimental method with a post-test only control group design. The subjects were 72 eleventh-grade students at Arjasa State High School, randomly divided into 36 students in the experimental group and 36 students in the control group. The independent variable in this study was the PBL model with Powtoon media, the dependent variable was students' physics learning outcomes, and the control variables were the same topic and duration of instruction. The instrument used was a test consisting of essay questions. Data analysis was conducted using an independent sample t-test with a significance level of 0.05. The results of the study indicate a significant difference between the learning outcomes of students in the experimental group and the control group, with the experimental group achieving higher scores. Therefore, it can be concluded that the implementation of the PBL model with Powtoon as an assessment medium has a positive effect on students' physics learning outcomes. This approach can be used by teachers to enhance students' conceptual understanding and engagement in physics learning.

Abstract

The integration of artificial intelligence (AI) in the field of science education can facilitate two key objectives: firstly, it can assist teachers in the creation of innovative teaching materials, and secondly, it can enhance the learning experience, making it more engaging and effective. A challenge arises when science teachers, MGMP IPA SMP Northern Region members of Jember, lack the requisite skills to utilize technology effectively. As a solution, teachers are provided with training in the development of AI-based media. The service activities were conducted using the Participatory Action Research (PAR) approach, with the methods employed comprising lectures, discussions, questions and answers, and practical sessions accompanied by the presentation of results. The results of the service activities demonstrated that the participants exhibited a comprehensive understanding of the advantages of AI technology, demonstrated proficiency in utilizing a range of AI-based media, and exhibited the capacity to independently develop AI-based media. Consequently, it can be concluded that through this service activity, it is possible to facilitate changes in teachers' skills, particularly in their ability to utilize technology, with a particular focus on AI-based technologies.

Abstract

This study aimed to develop and validate an assessment instrument to measure students’ understanding of Newton’s laws and their nationalism attitudes. The instrument consisted of 15 essay questions on Newton’s laws and a 30-item Likert-scale questionnaire on nationalism attitudes. Content validity was evaluated by eight experts (lecturers, teachers, and peers) using Aiken’s V index, showing high validity. Empirical validation was conducted with 275 students from public senior high schools in Bima Regency, West Nusa Tenggara. Data were analyzed using Item Response Theory with the Partial Credit Model (PCM) via QUEST. Results indicated that all concept understanding items fit the PCM criteria, with acceptable reliability values ranging from 0.72 to 0.98. For the nationalism instrument, 29 items met the fit criteria, while one item was rejected. Overall, the developed instruments demonstrated strong validity and reliability, and are suitable for assessing both cognitive understanding of Newton’s laws and students’ nationalism attitudes.

Abstract

Abstract

The rapid development of digital media, especially the habit of watching short videos on platforms such as TikTok, has had a major impact on the way of learning in the world of education. This situation is a challenge, especially in maintaining and improving students' enthusiasm for learning in science subjects. This study aims to: (1) find out how often students are exposed to TikTok short videos; (2) analyze how such exposure relates to motivation to learn science; and (3) develop flexible science learning strategies to increase learning motivation in the era of high digital content consumption. This study uses a survey method with a descriptive quantitative approach. Data was collected through questionnaires that contained questions about how often students use TikTok, how students view science learning, and students' levels of motivation to learn. It is hoped that the results of this study can illustrate the relationship between the habit of watching short videos and students' learning motivation, so that it can be used as a basis for developing science learning strategies that are more appropriate and relevant to current conditions
