Abstract

This research aims to determine the influence of the principal's leadership, organizational culture, and infrastructure on the professional competence of teachers at SMK Negeri 1 Percut Sei Tuan. This research is ex-post facto research using quantitative methods. The population was 150 people and the sample was 109 people. Based on the results of the hypothesis testing analysis that has been carried out, the significance value (Sig) of the principal's leadership variable (X1) is the result of the calculation, namely a = 3.478 and b = 0857. So a simple linear regression equation is obtained for hypothesis 1, namely: Ŷ = 3.478 + 0.857X1 . Based on data, the regression coefficient value for school principal leadership is 0.857. Second hypothesis. The calculation results obtained are a = 36,964 and b = 1,618. By entering the prices a and b into the regression equation, a simple linear regression equation is obtained for hypothesis 1, namely: Ŷ = 36,964 + 1,618 X2. Based on data, the organizational culture regression coefficient value is 1,618. The third hypothesis resulting from the calculation is a = 5,780 and b = 1,194. By entering the prices a and b into the regression equation, a simple linear regression equation is obtained for hypothesis 1, namely: Ŷ = 5,780 + 1,194 X2. Based on data, the regression coefficient value for infrastructure is 1,194. The fourth hypothesis calculation results are a = 44.398, b = 0.325, c = 1.192, and d = 0.248. By entering the prices a, b, c, and d into the regression equation, we obtain a multiple linear regression equation for hypothesis 4, namely: Ŷ = 44,398+ 0. 325X1 + 1,192X2 + 0. 248 X3. Based on data, the regression coefficient value for principal leadership is 0.325, organizational culture is 1.192.Keywords:Principal Leadership, Organizational Culture, Infrastructure, Teacher Professional Competence.

Abstract

Principals in Indonesian secondary schools are mandated to embed entrepreneurial character in daily learning, yet practical, evidence-based models remain limited. This qualitative case study at MTs Aisyiyah, North Sumatra, explores how a principal’s entrepreneurial competence is operationalised and how it affects the school community. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews with one principal, eight teachers and twenty students, and through non-participant observation of project-based activities that transform unused materials into marketable products. Thematic analysis revealed three key findings. First, the principal strategically integrated 17 entrepreneurial values—most visibly creativity, independence, discipline and responsibility—into both the formal curriculum and extracurricular programmes centred on up-cycling. Second, sustained teacher involvement in mentoring and assessment proved critical to reinforcing these values and modelling entrepreneurial behaviour. Third, the programme generated tangible shifts in school culture: students demonstrated greater problem-solving autonomy, while teachers reported heightened innovation in lesson design. The study concludes that visionary, risk-embracing leadership coupled with consistent teacher support can convert entrepreneurship policy into a living, school-wide practice, offering a replicable pathway for character-based education in similar contexts.

Abstract

The objectives of this study are to identify the type of School-Based Management (SBM) model implemented at Junior high schools, examine how environmental factors influence the implementation process, and evaluate the impact of SBM. This research focuses on the importance of policymakers' involvement and non-academic achievements, which remain underexplored. Using a qualitative case study approach, data were collected through interviews, observations, document analysis, and questionnaires. The study reveals three key findings. SBM was implemented through strategic planning that was aligned with national regulations and tailored to the school’s specific needs. Transformational leadership and participatory decision-making were central to fostering a collaborative school environment. The performance of the principal, teachers, and school committee contributed to achievements in both academic and non-academic domains, such as science olympiads, arts competitions, and sports tournaments. These findings suggest that integrating structured planning, inclusive leadership, and community participation enhances the overall quality of education. The research contributes to the discourse on effective SBM practices in urban schools and recommends the broader adoption of participatory and context-responsive strategies to support improvements in education quality.
