Abstract

This study aims to examine the role of Ramadan in strengthening social cohesion through the lens of local wisdom within multicultural societies using a systematic literature review approach. By analyzing existing literature sourced primarily from reputable international databases, including Scopus and Web of Science, this research identifies significant themes concerning the relationship between Ramadan practices and social harmony. The findings indicate that Ramadan significantly contributes to enhancing social integration and mutual understanding among diverse cultural and religious groups. Local wisdom embedded within Ramadan traditions, such as communal iftars, charity distributions, and interfaith dialogues, facilitates meaningful interactions and reinforces collective solidarity. Moreover, the literature highlights variations in how different multicultural communities interpret and enact local wisdom, underscoring both unique adaptations and commonalities that strengthen social ties. The review also reveals challenges, including societal tensions and differing religious interpretations, which sometimes complicate the cohesion process. However, Ramadan's overarching emphasis on compassion, generosity, and inclusivity remains a powerful catalyst for social bonding. Policymakers and community leaders can utilize these insights to formulate strategies aimed at promoting harmonious coexistence in increasingly diverse societies. Despite extensive discussions, this literature-based analysis recognizes the limitations inherent in the secondary nature of the data, suggesting the need for empirical studies to deepen understanding further. Ultimately, this review contributes to existing scholarship by illuminating how culturally contextualized Ramadan observances can effectively foster sustainable social cohesion in multicultural contexts.

Abstract

This article discusses the concept of Islamization of knowledge promoted by Ismail Raji Faruqi. This concept aims to defeat secularism that blinds Muslims and brings misfortune. The spread of secularism has encouraged Muslims to make concessions to what the West offers them. Therefore, reading the Islamization of knowledge in the context of scientific integration-interconnection becomes essential to raise awareness among Muslims who are considered to glorify secular science so that people are too far from the concept of tawhid (monotheism). This research used a literature review method through several textual sources related to the topic discussed, primarily Faruqi's work entitled "Islamization of Knowledge," and secondary in the form of similar articles on the theme of Islamization of knowledge. Then, it is to consider the aims and objectives of the Islamization of knowledge, linking it with the concept of integration-interconnection, and considering the contextualization of the Islamization of knowledge in the Indonesian science. The results of this paper are as follows: Islamization of knowledge becomes an inclusive concept if we consider the existence of two disciplines. As a Muslim scientist, the realm of Islamization of knowledge must be imprinted in him to achieve the ideals of Islam. Islamization of knowledge is closely related to integration-interconnection, namely integrating sciences without legitimizing that one science with another cannot be merged. Islamization of knowledge is also a step in creating an Islamic civilization in the world of science. In the context of Indonesia, the Islamization of knowledge can be seen in the concept of science integration in several Islamic universities in Indonesia which has different concepts, but the same essence. The purpose of Faruqi's thought is to demand Muslims to be creative.

Abstract

The concept of nusyuz in Islamic family law, particularly as outlined in QS. An-Nisa’: 34 and 128, remains a subject of debate, especially concerning power relations within the household and the potential justification of violence against women. A conservative textual reading tends to portray women as the primary perpetrators of nusyuz, subject to escalating sanctions up to physical punishment, while nusyuz by husbands receives minimal legal attention. This imbalance is reinforced by classical interpretations shaped by patriarchal paradigms. This study addresses an academic gap by comparing the contextual-normative interpretation of M. Quraish Shihab and the feminist-progressive interpretation of Siti Musdah Mulia regarding nusyuz. Using a qualitative-descriptive approach with literature review, content and discourse analysis, hermeneutic methodology, and critical engagement with global Muslim feminist literature, this research finds that Shihab seeks to reform classical views through a contextual lens that emphasizes harmony and shared responsibility, while maintaining male leadership. In contrast, Musdah Mulia deconstructs patriarchal interpretations and emphasizes spiritual and social equality between spouses. This study contributes to the development of a fair, inclusive, and contextual discourse on gender interpretation in Indonesia and enriches the dynamics of Islam Nusantara in addressing modern challenges, particularly in family law reform and gender justice.

Abstract

There are many statements that men and women are different in all respects in the name of religion, especially Islam. Such reductions need to be re-examined so that there are no misperceptions that cause chaos and misinterpretation. With that, through the thought of Riffat Hassan as a foothold, Islam is very merciful to differences. Like the nature of men and women, both of which have the same potential in showing existence. It is necessary to consider and negotiate Riffat Hassan's thoughts on equality between men and women. Three main key points; the first is that equality is more important than others, the second is the concept of polygamy which is not necessarily interpreted as letter leg, and the third is the concept of veil or purdah which has many interpretations. Thus, through the study of Riffat Hassan's thoughts, it can be summarized that; everything departs from God's justice that does not discriminate against his servants because the main thing in God's eyes is the devotion of his servants.

Abstract

Abstract This study critically examines the representation of female desire in Surah Yusuf, verse 31, through the lens of Ibn Kathir’s classical tafsir. Despite growing scholarly attention to gender and sexuality in Islamic texts, focused analyses of female desire within Qur’anic exegesis remain limited. Addressing this gap, the present research offers a pioneering contribution by employing a qualitative descriptive method to analyze both linguistic and interpretative dimensions of the verse. The study pursues three main objectives: (1) to investigate the linguistic nuances and variations across major English translations of the verse; (2) to explore Ibn Kathir’s interpretive framing of the narrative involving the women of Egypt; and (3) to analyze how the concept of female desire is constructed within his tafsir. The findings reveal significant disparities in how translations convey the intensity and consequences of the women’s attraction to Prophet Yusuf. Ibn Kathir’s exegesis characterizes their behavior as influenced by both individual and collective longing, catalyzed by Yusuf’s extraordinary beauty. Notably, the tafsir identifies elements such as physical attraction, emotional overwhelm, and even metaphorical “drunkenness” as markers of female desire. This study contributes to the broader discourse on gender in Islamic thought by highlighting how classical interpretations engaged with complex emotional and psychological dimensions of female figures in the Qur’an. By revisiting these exegetical traditions, the research fosters a more nuanced and historically grounded understanding of female desire, offering critical insights for contemporary debates on gender, sexuality, and the interpretation of sacred texts. Keywords: Female Desire; Surah Yusuf; Ibn Kathir’s Interpretation. Abstract

This article explores the scientific integration of sociology in Islamic studies through theoretical and applicative analysis. This research aims to understand how sociological principles can be applied in Islamic studies to enrich insights and methods in understanding religious social dynamics. Using a qualitative approach, this article analyzes various relevant sociological theories and their applications in the Islamic context, such as functional structural theory, conflict theory, and other social theories. The results show that this integration not only broadens the academic perspective but also significantly contributes to understanding and addressing social issues in Muslim societies. The article also suggests some practical strategies for applying these findings in Islamic teaching and research to generate more comprehensive and inclusive insights. The scientific integration of sociology in Islamic studies is very close because studying Islam cannot escape the social and religious phenomena that surround it. Therefore, the study of Islam or the study of Islam will be easier to understand if it is passed with various approaches, one of which is a sociological approach.

Abstract

This research has several objectives, namely: (1) to know Science in the perspective of Islamic philosophy; (2) to know science in the perspective of the Qur'an; (3) to know science in the Western perspective. The method used to explore this uses a literature study method with qualitative descriptive analysis. The results of this study are three, namely (1) The characteristics of Islamic epistemology about science are belief in spiritual power, having a harmonious relationship between reason and revelation, interdependence of reason and intuition, Theocentric orientation, and associated Values Development; (2) science in the perspective of the Qur'an is illustrated in Q.S Imran : 190 and Al-Baqarah: 29; (3) Epistemology in the Western view suggests that the concept of science is based on logical principles, hypothesis generation, and verification process. There are three theories of truth, namely coherent truth theory, correspondence theory, pragmatic truth theory. In addition, there are material objects and formal objects in science. The contribution of this research describes how truth can be explained in various perspectives so that the truth becomes scientific.
