Abstract

The hadith on respect toward teachers occupies a vital role in Islamic education, emphasizing that proper adab is the key to the blessing of knowledge. This study aims to examine how the hadith on teacher respect is understood and practiced within the academic culture of UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta. Using a qualitative approach within the living hadith framework and a phenomenological perspective, data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation involving lecturers and students. Thematic analysis shows that the hadith is internalized as moral and spiritual ethics forming an academic habitus characterized by politeness, reverence, and moral exemplarity. The local ngajeni culture strengthens this process, aligning with Islamic ethical teachings. However, digital modernity presents egalitarian challenges that tend to weaken traditional respect. The study recommends revitalizing adab education through leadership, policy, and curriculum integration in Islamic higher education.

Abstract

The difference between today’s social reality and the historical context in which the hadith emerged necessitates a reinterpretation of several texts that are not always consistent with the dynamics of modern society. This need for adjustment has given rise to a liberal-rejectionist approach that seeks to interpret the hadith in a more historical, rational, and contextual manner, particularly with respect to issues of justice, gender bias, and universal human values. Although more relevant to contemporary society, this approach still raises methodological and epistemological issues related to the authority of the hadith and the limits of reinterpretation. In this context, this study formulates two main foci: first, how the concepts and practices of the liberal-rejectionist approach are understood in hadith studies; and second, the epistemological and social impacts of this approach on the authority of hadith and on the religious practices of Muslims. This study employs a systematic literature review following PRISMA guidelines, covering the stages of searching, selecting, extracting, and analyzing 33 scientific articles published between 2015 and 2025. The analysis employed a qualitative thematic approach to explore the conceptual, methodological, and social impact patterns that emerged in the literature. The results show that the liberal-rejectionist approach arose from the need to respond to several hadiths deemed incompatible with developments in social reality, particularly those concerning gender issues, human rights, and social justice. This approach presents a more historical and contextual reading, thereby bridging the gap between the text and changing realities. This approach is manifested in the reinterpretation, recontextualization, and rejection of certain hadiths, with attention to potential narratorial bias and the socio-historical context. These findings reveal a shift in perspective on the authority of hadith and have sparked debate between progressives and traditionalists over the legitimacy of this approach.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the implementation of hadith values regarding charity (ṣadaqah) within the Free Nutritious Meal Program (MBG) at MTsN 1 Sleman. This research employs a qualitative approach with a case study design involving one Islamic Education (PAI) teacher and seven students selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected through observation, indepth interviews, and documentation, and then analyzed using data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing techniques. The findings indicate that the MBG program received positive responses from both teachers and students, as it not only fulfills nutritional needs but also cultivates Islamic values such as charity, gratitude, cleanliness, responsibility, and moderation in food consumption. This study concludes that MBG has the potential to serve as a medium for internalizing Islamic values in education and contributes to strengthen.

Abstract

The development of an Early Childhood Education (ECE) curriculum based on hadith is a response to the need for a framework that systematically instills moral and spiritual values from an early age. As an authentic source of Islamic teachings, hadith is considered to have great potential in shaping the character of virtuous children through a holistic and contextual educational approach. This study aims to formulate a conceptual foundation for the development of a hadith-based ECE curriculum that is not only theoretically relevant but also practically applicable. Using a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) approach, this research identifies and analyzes 30 scholarly articles published between 2020 and 2025 related to early childhood education based on Islamic values in the Southeast Asian context. The results indicate that integrating hadith values such as honesty, compassion, responsibility, and politeness can be effectively implemented through play-based activities, daily routines, and child-friendly digital learning media. Additionally, the roles of teachers, the validity of hadith, and curriculum management are critical factors in the successful implementation of this curriculum. The study concludes that a hadith-based ECE curriculum is both urgent and highly potential in shaping a Qur’anic generation that is spiritually grounded, morally resilient, and adaptable to the demands of the times. Therefore, synergy among educators, educational institutions, and the broader community is essential in realizing an Islamic, practical, and joyful learning environment.

Abstract

This study explores the implementation of the living hadith “Cleanliness is part of faith” within the school culture at MI Al-Huda Karangnongko. Using a qualitative descriptive approach, data were collected through observations, interviews, and documentation involving students and teachers as key informants. The data were analyzed using the Miles and Huberman interactive model and validated through triangulation. The findings indicate that the hadith is not only understood as a religious teaching but is also practiced consistently through daily routines such as cleaning classrooms, maintaining personal hygiene, and participating in school-wide cleanliness activities. This implementation contributes to shaping students' character, responsibility, and awareness of cleanliness both at school and at home. The study is expected to provide insight into how living hadith practices can support religious education and character development in Islamic educational institutions.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis bagaimana hadis “berkata yang baik atau diam” hidup dalam praktik komunikasi mahasiswa, baik di lingkungan kampus maupun ruang digital. Perkembangan teknologi dan intensitas penggunaan media sosial telah mengubah pola komunikasi mahasiswa, sehingga pesan moral hadis mengenai etika berkomunikasi menemukan relevansi baru dalam konteks era digital. Meskipun hadis tersebut banyak dikaji secara tekstual dan normatif, kajian yang menyoroti bagaimana mahasiswa benar-benar memahami, menginternalisasi, dan mengamalkannya masih jarang dilakukan. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan metode fenomenologi untuk menangkap pengalaman subjektif mahasiswa. Data diperoleh melalui wawancara mendalam, observasi ringan, dan dokumentasi terhadap lima mahasiswa PAI sebagai informan yang dipilih secara purposive. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pemahaman mahasiswa terhadap hadis pada umumnya sesuai dengan makna literal yang dijelaskan ulama, meskipun tingkat kedalamannya berbeda. Dalam praktiknya, mahasiswa mengimplementasikan hadis tersebut melalui kontrol ucapan dalam diskusi kelas, pengendalian emosi dalam organisasi, dan sikap dalam berkomunikasi di media sosial. Faktor internal seperti kesadaran religius dan pengalaman spiritual menjadi pendorong utama pengamalan hadis, sedangkan tekanan pergaulan, budaya komunikasi digital yang impulsif, serta tren meme dan roasting menjadi penghambatnya. Penelitian ini menyimpulkan bahwa hadis “berkata baik atau diam” tetap sangat relevan dalam membentuk etika komunikasi mahasiswa modern, sekaligus menampilkan bagaimana nilai hadis hidup dan bertransformasi dalam konteks sosial-digital generasi muda Muslim. Temuan ini berkontribusi pada kajian living hadis dan menegaskan pentingnya penguatan akhlak lisan dalam pendidikan agama Islam.
