Abstract

Abstract

Betta fish is one of the excellent ornamental fish because it has high economic value. Betta fish that have economic value are male betta fish because it has a beautiful shape. To increase male fish production, steps can be done by masculinization. This study aims to determine the effect of celery extract on the percentage of male betta fish by masculinization. This study uses a completely randomized design (CRD) with 6 treatments and 3 replications. The treatment in this study was 7-day-old betta fish larvae soaked in celery extract media with different concentrations for 8 hours. The treatment is the addition of celery extract as much as 5 mg / L (P1), 10 mg / L (P2), 20 mg / L (P3), 40 mg / L (P4), 80 mg / L (P5) and without the addition of celery extract as a control (P0). Based on phytochemical testing, celery ethanol extract contains steroids, flavonoids, tannins, and phenols. The results showed that the addition of celery extract with different concentrations had a significant effect on the percentage of male betta fish, but there was no significant effect on survival rates.

Abstract

Disease infection is one of the limiting factors that affect productivity in aquaculture and has caused economic losses. Luminescent vibrios and motile aeromonas septicemia (MAS) are diseases caused by Vibrio harveyi and Aeromonas hydrophila bacteria, respectively. Certain plants have antimicrobial compounds and can potentially be used to treat the diseases, such as Centella asiatica. In the present study, the crude leaves extracts of C. asiatica were examined for its antibacterial potential using methanol solvents against V. harveyi and A. hydrophila bacteria. Different concentrations of 50 mg/mL and 100 mg/mL were checked for its antibacterial activity. The crude extract was also tested for phytochemistry content and LC50 using Brine Shrimp Lethal Assay. The crude extracts of C. asiatica showed a remarkable antibacterial activity with inhibition zone of 10.57 mm against A. hydrophila and 21.14 mm against V. harveyi. The phytochemistry test result showed that C. asiatica leaves contain alkaloid, phenol, and tannin compounds. The acute lethal concentration (LC50) of C. asiatica after 24 hours exposure to the extract mixture was 254 mg/L. The results confirmed the potential use of C. asiatica extracts as a source of antibacterial compounds.

Abstract

Catfish and tilapia are freshwater fish whose production continues to be increased every year due to high market demand. High market demand encourages cultivators to continue to innovate in accelerating production. Technology must be applied to increase production. Tarakan City produces freshwater fish such as catfish and tilapia. The fish cultivator group (POKDAKAN) "Raja Catfish Karang Harapan" is one of the conventional freshwater aquaculture groups in Tarakan. To overcome the continuous availability of seeds for catfish, it is necessary to improve the quality of the broodstock. Improvement of seed quality can be approached by increasing broodstock performance through good feeding, for example by adding katuk extract which has high fatty acids and steroids to help accelerate gonadal maturation and injection of ovaprim hormone to assist artificial spawning. In tilapia to produce fast growth, monosex cultivation must be carried out. To produce monosex culture, it can be done by adding the hormone 17?-methyltestosterone (17?-mt) and using celery extract because it contains steroids that can make fish male. As a result of this activity, partners were able to make feed with the addition of katuk extract and injection of ovaprim hormone for catfish brooders as well as monosex cultivation using celery extract and the hormone 17?-methyltestosterone (17?-mt). It is hoped that the training that will be carried out with the group (POKDAKAN) "Raja Lele Karang Harapan" will be the first step to increase catfish seed production and tilapia cultivation in the city of Tarakan throughout the year

Abstract

The Covid-19 pandemic has had a major impact on society, such as job losses, rising staples, and economic hardship. Prices of food needs that continue to increase and are not affordable have resulted in food problems, one of which is protein. One of the high-quality protein is protein from fish. Fish as a fishery commodity that is relatively easy to cultivate on a large industrial scale and household scale for food self-sufficiency is catfish (Clarias sp). The purpose of this activity is to add insight and knowledge of the community about budikdamber for food self-sufficiency. The method of implementing community service activities in Kampung Six is carried out by counseling and training methods on Budikdamber. In this training activity, a bucket with 40 liters of water and 20 catfish seeds was used. Maintenance was carried out for 60 days with ad satiation feeding three times a day. Observations were made on growth, survival and water quality. The results of the activity found that 93% of the community partners had understood about Budikdamber. Budikdamber maintenance by partner communities gets an absolute weight growth value of catfish of 14 g, catfish survival value of 75%, and 1 bunch of kale per bucket. Based on the results of this activity, it is hoped that there will be the provision of special land for Budikdamber as an example for people who want to develop in their respective yards.
