Abstract

Technological developments have a positive impact on medicine, especially in the diagnosis of disease. One example is the use of endoscopic tools as a useful supporting examination to identify abnormalities in the organs of the human body. Gastrointestinal endoscopic examination is a technique in gastroenterology - hepatology which consists of Esophago Gastro Duodenoscopy (EGD) and colonoscopy. The initial indication for endoscopic examination is generally dyspepsia, the high incidence of dyspeptic syndrome, endoscopic examination is used to confirm the diagnosis and several definite diagnoses are obtained such as los angeles grade A classification esophagitis, erosive gastritis, and duodenitis. This study aims to determine the profile of gastrointestinal endoscopy patients at Dr. M. Djamil Padang Hospital in 2022. This type of research is categorical descriptive research, using a cross sectional research design. Sampling was done with total sampling technique. The largest age group was 56 - 65 years 196 patients (23.2%) with male gender 430 patients (50.9%). The most common endoscopic examination action was EGD 646 patients (76.5%). The most common indication for EGD examination was dyspepsia syndrome 228 patients (35.3%), while for colonoscopy examination the most common indication was Susp. Inflammatory Bowel Disease as many as 49 patients (24.7%). The most common endoscopic examination results in EGD actions were chronic gastritis (antrum) as many as 81 patients (9.6%) while in colonoscopy actions were grade II internal hemorrhoids as many as 29 patients (14.6%). The largest age group was 56 - 65 years, with male gender with EGD examination, and the most indications for EGD were dyspepsia syndrome, while colonoscopy was Susp. Inflammatory Bowel Disease, with the most examination results for EGD was chronic gastritis (antrum) and for colonoscopy was grade II internal hemorrhoids.

Abstract

Nutritional problems remain a major challenge in community health development, particularly in rural areas. The Indonesian government has introduced the “Isi Piringku” concept as a visual guideline for balanced nutrition; however, its implementation requires more innovative educational approaches. This community service activity aimed to improve knowledge and awareness of balanced nutrition through technology-based “Isi Piringku” education as an effort to prevent nutritional problems in Nagari Padang Gantiang. The community service program was conducted in Nagari Padang Gantiang, Sangir Jujuan District, South Solok Regency, over a 21-day period. Participants included housewives, posyandu cadres, elementary school teachers, and village officials. Educational methods involved technology-based counseling using educational videos, interactive discussions, and question-and-answer sessions. The program resulted in improved participants’ understanding of the “Isi Piringku” concept, particularly the application of the 3J principles (timing, quantity, and type of food) in complementary feeding practices. Educational videos effectively facilitated comprehension of balanced nutrition messages. In addition, the activity fostered community commitment to developing a nutrition-aware village program through the establishment of a healthy garden to support complementary feeding practices. Technology-based “Isi Piringku” education is effective in enhancing community nutrition knowledge and awareness. The integration of digital media and participatory community activities can support stunting prevention efforts and promote the development of a healthy and nutrition-conscious village

Abstract

Indonesia is the world’s largest producer of gambier (Uncaria gambir Roxb.), which is rich in catechin, a major bioactive compound with strong antioxidant activity. Variations in catechin content and antioxidant activity of Indonesian gambier are influenced by geographical origin, plant characteristics, and processing and extraction methods. This study aims to comprehensively review the catechin content and antioxidant activity of Indonesian gambier based on scientific publications from the last decade (2015–2025). A narrative literature review method was applied by collecting relevant articles from Google Scholar, ScienceDirect, PubMed, and Garuda databases. Selected studies were original research articles reporting quantitative data on catechin levels and/or antioxidant activity of gambier originating from Indonesia. The results indicate that Indonesian gambier, particularly from West Sumatra, exhibits high catechin content and strong antioxidant activity, although considerable variation exists among regions and extraction techniques. Advanced extraction and purification methods, including solvent optimization and ultrasonic-assisted extraction, were shown to enhance catechin concentration and antioxidant capacity. Indonesian gambier has significant potential as a natural antioxidant source, highlighting the need for quality standardization and further development of processing technologies to support value-added utilization and downstream product development.

Abstract

Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) has long been regarded as a transient metabolic disorder limited to pregnancy. However, growing scientific evidence indicates that GDM represents an early marker of long-term metabolic vulnerability in women. This literature review aims to synthesize current evidence on the association between GDM and the risk of type 2 diabetes mellitus, cardiovascular disease, and other metabolic disorders after pregnancy, as well as its implications for postpartum care and interdisciplinary collaboration. A literature search was conducted using the PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science databases, focusing on articles published over the past ten years. The review findings show that women with a history of GDM have a significantly increased risk of developing type 2 diabetes mellitus, as well as a higher risk of cardiovascular disease compared with women without a history of GDM, even among those who do not progress to overt diabetes. The underlying mechanisms include persistent insulin resistance, pancreatic β-cell dysfunction, chronic low-grade inflammation, the role of the placenta, and the potential contribution of the gut microbiota. In conclusion, GDM should be understood as an early predictor of long-term cardiometabolic disease. Structured and collaborative postpartum care involving obstetrics and internal medicine is essential to reduce the future burden of disease.
