Abstract

The family planning program in general forms a small family according to the socio-economic strength of a family by controlling the birth of a child, to obtain a happy and prosperous family that can meet their daily needs. on the Family Planning Program in Gowa Regency. The type of research used in this study is a quasi-experiment to determine the effectiveness of assistance in increasing the participation of fertile age couples (PUS) in the family planning program located in Batangkaluku Village, Somba Opu District, Gowa Regency. The population in this study were all fertile age couples (PUS) in the area of Batangkaluku Village, Somba Opu District, Gowa Regency, totaling 1,537 people. The number of samples in this study was 94 Fertile Age Couples (PUS). The research instrument used in this study is a questionnaire containing several questions to obtain accurate and objective data on the problems being studied. The results showed that there are factors that influence the participation of fertile age couples (PUS) in the family planning program, namely knowledge, self-efficacy, access to family planning services, support for family planning officers, and husband's support. This study recommends health workers increase the frequency of conducting family planning counseling to increase knowledge of contraceptives in the community.

Abstract

Traditional fishermen are exposed to various occupational hazards due to the nature of their work, often lacking adequate safety practices and health knowledge. This community service initiative aimed to improve occupational safety and health (OSH) behaviors among traditional fishermen on Kambuno Island, Pulau Sembilan District, Indonesia. Using a one-group pre- and post-test design, the intervention targeted a sample of 60 out of 862 local fishermen. The program involved counseling sessions and the distribution of OSH guidelines specifically tailored for fishing activities, delivered over a two-month period. The intervention assessed various components related to OSH, including the use and completeness of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), knowledge and practice levels, personal health habits, treatment-seeking behavior, and environmental health awareness. Results showed significant improvements in PPE usage, knowledge levels, and OSH practices. For instance, post-intervention data indicated a substantial increase in the use of head, hand, and foot protection, as well as life vests. Furthermore, positive behavioral changes were observed in boat cleaning, self-care, and formal healthcare-seeking behaviors, as fishermen increasingly opted for health centers over traditional treatments. The findings suggest that focused OSH interventions can effectively enhance safety and health behaviors in high-risk fishing communities. This program underscores the importance of continued education and monitoring to sustain these improvements and reduce occupational risks in traditional fishing communities.

Abstract

The waste problem is a serious problem that affects the environment and human health. Involving young children in waste management is very important because they are the future generation. One effective method for instilling waste disposal behavior in young children is by providing educational games. This literature review aims to find out how to instill waste disposal behavior through games in early childhood. The method used is systematic review and meta-analysis (PRISMA). Based data obtained from Google Scholar, PubMed/NCBI, UpToDate, Springer, Wiley on Library, ScienceDirect, MedRxiv, DOAJ, MDPI, and JAMA Network. A total of 3,728 journals were found which were then filtered based on related titles and 1,400 journal titles were obtained. Next, selection was carried out based on research variables, where there were 764 journals that were excluded because there were no suitable variables, namely those related to instilling trash throwing behavior in children through games, so that the remaining 636 journals were then filtered based on the research method used. It was found that 444 journals did not use the method cross sectional study, cohort, experimental study, quasi experiment, and field research so that the remaining 192 journals were then filtered again based on journal access and journal indexes to obtain 14 journals.

Abstract

Early childhood environmental interventions increasingly promote waste-disposal habits, yet limited community-based programs have combined teacher modeling, child-friendly waste infrastructure, and multidimensional behavioral assessment among preschool children. This community engagement program aimed to improve teachers’ waste-disposal behavior and modeling capacity while strengthening preschool children’s positive waste-disposal development in six kindergartens in Makassar and Gowa, South Sulawesi, Indonesia. A Participatory Action Research approach was applied through advocacy, focus group discussions, instrument assessment, enumerator training, baseline measurement, teacher-modeling training, school-based mentoring, post-intervention assessment, reflection, and program revision. Twelve teachers participated in the training, and each school received segregated waste bins for organic, inorganic, and hazardous waste with color-coded labels and visual illustrations. Teachers demonstrated significant improvements in modeling ability, knowledge, attitudes, and practices after the intervention, with all Wilcoxon signed-rank test results showing p < 0.001. Preschool children also showed significant improvements in cognitive, language, motor, social, and affective domains, with posttest scores exceeding pretest scores across all participating schools. The findings indicate that teacher modeling supported by accessible waste-disposal facilities can serve as a practical school-based environmental-health intervention for establishing positive habits during early childhood.

Abstract

Growing interest in plastic waste valorization has highlighted the potential of pyrolysis technology; however, its community-level application remains limited, particularly in rural waste management systems. This community engagement program aimed to strengthen local capacity by implementing pyrolysis technology to convert plastic waste into alternative fuel in Mattiro Ade Village, Pinrang Regency, Indonesia. The program adopted a participatory approach integrating Community-Based Research and Participatory Action Research. Activities included preparation, pyrolysis unit fabrication, operational testing, community outreach, practical training, and transfer of the unit to the local Reduce, Reuse, Recycle Waste Processing Facility. Qualitative evaluation was conducted through participatory observation of community understanding, involvement, and operational readiness. The results showed improved awareness of plastic waste management, active community participation, and adequate readiness among local operators to use the pyrolysis unit. The initiative also demonstrated the feasibility of introducing small-scale pyrolysis within a community-based waste management framework. By linking plastic waste reduction with alternative fuel production, this program offers a practical pathway for strengthening local environmental governance and promoting circular resource use. Further implementation should prioritize technical assistance, routine monitoring, and fuel quality assessment to support operational sustainability and replication in comparable rural communities.
