Abstract

Latar belakang : Cacingan merupakan penyakit yang disebabkan oleh  parasit usus  yang tersebar meluas di Indonesia. Cacingan dikatakan jarang menyebabkan kematian, namun dapat mempengaruhi kesehatan dan produktivitas penderitanya dengan menurunkan status gizi. Efeknya lambat dan biasanya tanpa gejala, itulah sebabnya penyakit ini diabaikan di antara penyakit lainnya. Risiko ini semakin diperumit oleh fakta bahwa anak-anak dan orang tua/wali, terutama ibu, tidak mengetahui pencegahan cacingan. Menciptakan kesadaran di antara anak-anak dan orang tua dapat membantu melawan penyakit ini. Tujuan: Mengetahui gambaran tingkat pengetahuan ibu mengenai penggunaan obat cacing pada anak. Metode: Studi deskriptif kuantitatif metode survei potong lintang (cross sectional) dengan menggunakan kuesioner lewat google form dengan cara pengambilan sampel seluruhnya (total sampling), melibatkan 52 responden di salah satu Posyandu Kota Bandung. Hasil: Tingkat pengetahuan Ibu terhadap penggunaan obat cacing sebesar 59,6% memiliki tingkat pengetahuan baik,  34,6% memiliki tingkat pengetahuan cukup, dan 5,8% memiliki tingkat pengetahuan kurang. Simpulan dan saran: Penyakit cacingan pada anak dipengaruhi oleh tingkat pengetahuan ibu. Diperlukan konsumsi obat cacing secara teratur dan melakukan pemeriksaan kesehatan secara berkala dan edukasi kesehatan diberikan bagi ibu yang datang ke Posyandu.

Abstract

Trypanosomiasis caused by Trypanosoma evansi is a major protozoan illness that affects animals worldwide. It is also referred to as “surra” and affects a variety if wild and domestic animals such as sheep, cattle, goats, dogs, buffaloes, pigs, elephants, amongst others. In preparing this review, relevant scientific articles were searched on PubMed, SCOPUS, and Web of Science databases using the keyword “Trypanosoma evansi AND animals”. T. evansi are carried by a vast number of hematophagous flies and are found in the extracellular and internal fluids of certain hosts. Trypanosomosis is mostly characterized by anemia, and the degree of anemia can typically be used as a gauge for the disease's severity. Trypanosomiasis compromises the host animal's immune system and its diagnosis is dependent on a number of factors such as thorough clinical examination, suitable sample collection, sample size, suitable diagnostic test performance, and logical interpretation of test results. The clinical manifestations of trypanosomiasis vary widely in both appearance and severity, ranging from neurological disturbances and skin plaques to vaginal enlargement. Hematophagous biting flies, including Tabanus, Haematopota, Glossina, Chrysops, Lyperosia, Stomoxys, and Hippobusca flies, contribute to the spread of trypanosomiasis. Four medications are primarily used to treat trypanosomiasis: quinapyramine, karetin, diminazene aceturate (Berenil), and melarsomine (cymelarsan). An efficient vaccination program is an additional technique for managing infectious diseases in addition to treatment. The most important step in curtailing the spread of trypanosomiasis caused by T. evansi is to stop its transmission by flies via physical and chemical methods.

Abstract

Escherichia coli normally inhabits the intestinal tract of poultry as a commensal organism; however, specific strains such as avian pathogenic E. coli (APEC) may become opportunistic pathogens responsible for colibacillosis in birds. The inappropriate use of antibiotics can increase antimicrobial resistance, which may impact public health. This study aimed to detect the presence of the iroN virulence gene specifically in multidrug-resistant (MDR) E. coli isolates associated with APEC obtained from duck cloacal swabs collected at live markets in Surabaya. This study was designed as a descriptive cross-sectional survey, and the results are presented as prevalence proportions without inferential or correlation statistical testing, as iroN detection was performed exclusively on MDR isolates. Samples were collected from five live markets in Surabaya and cultured on MacConkey agar (MCA). E. coli was identified morphologically through Gram staining and biochemically using Triple Sugar Iron Agar (TSIA), Sulfide Indole Motility (SIM), Simmons Citrate Agar (SCA), indole, and methyl red–Voges–Proskauer (MR–VP) tests. Antimicrobial susceptibility testing was performed on all confirmed E. coli isolates (n = 120), and PCR analysis of the iroN gene was subsequently conducted only on MDR isolates (n = 14). The identification rate of E. coli in this study was 83.3% (120/144). Resistance to erythromycin was 81.7% (98/120), which likely reflects the intrinsic resistance of Gram-negative bacteria to macrolides rather than acquired antimicrobial resistance. This was followed by resistance to gentamicin at 19.2% (23/120), ciprofloxacin at 14.2% (17/120), aztreonam at 3.3% (4/120), and chloramphenicol at 2.5% (3/120). The prevalence of multidrug resistance (MDR) was 11.6% (14/120). Among these MDR isolates, 42.8% (6/14) were positive for the iroN virulence gene. No statistical association between MDR status and iroN carriage was assessed because non-MDR isolates were not screened for iroN. These findings provide baseline descriptive data on MDR and iroN-positive E. coli in traditional markets in Surabaya based on a limited panel of representative antimicrobial classes, without inferring specific resistance mechanisms such as extended-spectrum β-lactamase (ESBL) production.
