Abstract

Manganese is a micro nutrient that plants need in small quantities. Manganese plays an important role as an enzyme activator, including phosphate transfer enzymes and enzymes in the Krebs cycle. The aim of this research was to study the chemical and physical properties of the soil on ex-manganese excavated land in Oelami Village, TTU Regency. This research was carried out in June-September 2022. Analysis of the chemical and physical characteristics of the soil was carried out in the laboratory of the Faculty of Agriculture, University of Timor, and the Laboratory of the Faculty of Agriculture, Nusa Cendana University. This study used a descriptive experimental method which was carried out by survey and continued with laboratory analysis. Soil samples were taken at 5 points based on land use. Based on the results of the analysis of the chemical and physical properties of soil from ex-manganese excavated land, pH was 6.321 (slightly sour), CEC 33.46 me/100g (high), C-organic 0.22% (low), N-total 0.22% (low ), P-total 61.44 mg/100g (high), K-total 71.189 mg/100g (high), Mn-total 19,089 ppm (high), organic matter 0.81% (low), sandy loam soil texture ( sand 81.33%, dust 10.67%, and clay 8.00%), soil water content 8.611% (medium), soil density 1.25 g/cm3 (medium), soil specific gravity 1.47 g/ cm3 (low), and porosity 14.961% (high)

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of N fertilizer and ameliorant types on the growth, yield, and nitrogen absorption of pak choy (Brassica rapa L.) plants through wick fertigation systems in vertical cultivation in dry land. The research method used a split-plot design. The main plot is N fertilizer consisting of BPN + Urea, BPN + POC, and BPN + Urea + POC. The subplots are ameliorant types consisting of soil, soil: biochar (1:1), and soil: compost (1:1), which were repeated 3 times so that 27 total experimental combinations were obtained. The results showed that there was an interaction between N fertilizer and ameliorant types that could increase the growth and production of pak choy plants, where the interaction of BPN + Urea + POC treatment with ameliorant types of soil: biochar (1:1) gave the best results in observing the stem diameter and root length of pak choy plants. N fertilizer was able to increase the growth and production of pak choy plants, where BPN + POC gave the best results in observing the dry weight of the crown and N absorption of pak choy plants. The type of ameliorant is able to increase the growth and production of pak choi plants where the soil:compost (1:1) treatment gives the best results in observing plant height and the number of pak choi leaves.

Abstract

Introduction: This study aimed to determine the growth of pakcoy at the time of fertigation and the composition of the verticulture system planting media with different spacing of planting holes and their interactions on dry land. Methods: The method used is an experiment using a Split Plot Design using 3 plots. The main plot is the spacing of the planting holes consisting of 15 cm, 20 cm, and 25 cm. The subplot is the composition of the growing media consisting of soil:sand, soil:biochar; sand:biochar; and soil:sand:biochar. The sub-sub plot is fertigation time which consists of 60 seconds, 90 seconds, and 120 seconds. A total of 36 treatments were repeated 2 times for a total of 72 treatments. Results: Results: The results of this study showed that the interaction of fertigation time significantly affected the growth of plant height, number of leaves and fresh weight of crown with the best combination treatment of 120 seconds of fertigation time with soil:biochar growing media. Fertigation time has a significant effect on all observation parameters, with the best treatment being fertigation for 120 seconds. The composition of the growing media had a significant effect on the observations of plant height, the number of leaves, and the fresh weight of the crown with the best results found in soil: biochar growing media (1:1). Conclusion: The best combination result is a fermentation time of 120 seconds and the composition of soil and biochar (W3M2).

Abstract

Niufmolo is a farmer group located in Niufmolo Village with dry land biophysics with a dry climate that results in low productivity and partner income. Its management requires innovation and technology to be used as agricultural land. Verticulture as a transformation of vegetable cultivation is adopted to overcome several problems in farmer groups. This program aims to increase the productivity and income of the Niufmolo farmer group through verticulture technology on dry land. The method of implementing activities is through direct counseling and training. The results show an increase in pak choy productivity of 220-225 kg and income of IDR 5,000,000 in one planting cycle, an increase of 100% compared to conventional methods. This technology is a model for agricultural sustainability in dry climate areas

Abstract

Pakcoy (Brassica rapa L.) is a green vegetable plant that is in great demand by people from children to adults, because it has very high nutritional value. Cultivation of pak choy plants on dry land with a dry climate requires the adoption of technology such as wick fertigation in verticulture. The aim of this research was to determine the effect of providing nitrogen fertilizer sources and types of ameliorant on the growth and yield as well as nitrogen uptake of pak choy (Brassicca rapa L.) plants. This research method uses a split plot design (RPT) with 2 factors consisting of a main plot and a subplot. The main plot is N fertilizer consisting of urea, POC, and urea + POC. Subplots are ameliorants consisting of soil, soil: biochar (1:1), soil: compost (1:1) and soil: biochar: compost (1:1:1). Thus, 12 treatment combinations were obtained which were repeated 3 times, resulting in a total of 36 experimental combinations. The research results showed that the interaction of the N fertilizer source and the type of ameliorant had a real influence on the observation of stem diameter and root length with the best treatment of urea+POC with the type of soil ameliorant: biocar: compost (1:1:1). The source of N fertilizer has a significant effect on shoot dry weight, harvest index and N uptake, where the best treatment is urea+POC fertilizer. The type of ameliorant had a significant effect on the number of leaves at 28 DAT and N content where the best treatment was soil: biochar: compost (1:1:1) showing the highest results when observing the number of leaves at 28 DAP and N content. Treatment of the type of soil ameliorant: biochar: compost (1:1:1) shows the best results.

Abstract

Kelompok tani Perempuan Sion aktif dalam kegiatan bercocok tanam di lahan kering. Namun terdapat kesulitan dalam mengelola lahannya. Tujuan pengabdian ini adalah meningkatkan ketahanan pangan kelompok tani Perempuan Sion melalui penerapan pekarangan lestari. Pelaksanaan dilakukan melalui sistem learning by doing dengan sosialisasi dan demonstrasi yang melibatkan kelompok tani Perempuan Sion dan mahasiswa sebagai implementasi MBKM. Kegiatan berlangsung dengan durasi 3 (tiga) bulan mulai dari Juli – September 2022. Tahapan kegiatan dimulai dari persiapan lahan, pembuatan pupuk bokashi berbahan dasar limbah dan kotoran ayam, persemaian benih pakcoy, pemupukan, penanaman, perawatan tanaman, dan pemanenan. Berdasarkan hasil kegiatan pengabdian, kelompok tani Perempuan Sion mampu mengubah limbah menjadi bokashi, mampu mengelola lahan kering sebagai lahan pertanian yang lebih efektif dan efisien baik secara waktu dan tenaga, serta mampu meningkatkan ketahanan pangan.

Abstract

Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui interaksi antara pupuk organik cair (POC) limbah tahu dan komposisi biochar pada media tanam, pengaruh pemberian POC limbah tahu dan pengaruh komposisi biochar pada media tanam terhadap pertumbuhan dan hasil tanaman pakcoy. Penelitian menggunakan rancangan acak lengkap (RAL) faktorial yaitu konsentrasi POC limbah tahu meliputi L1=100 mL/L air, L2=200 mL/L air, L3=300 mL/L air, dan jenis biochar meliputi S1= tanah : biochar sekam padi (1:1), S2= tanah: biochar serbuk kayu (1:1), S3= tanah: biochar sekam padi: biochar serbuk kayu (1:1:1). Hasil penelitian menujukan bahwa interaksi antara POC limbah tahu dan komposisi biochar pada media tanam serta perlakuan tunggal POC limbah tahu tidak berpengaruh signifikan terhadap semua parameter pertumbuhan dan hasil tanaman pakcoy. Perlakuan komposisi biochar berpengaruh nyata terhadap tinggi tanaman dan jumlah daun umur 35 HST, bobot segar tajuk, bobot segar akar, dan indeks panen dimana perlakuan terbaik terdapat pada komposisi media tanam S1=tanah:biochar sekam padi (1:1).

Abstract

The issue of declining soil fertility and limited access to sustainable agricultural inputs is a major challenge for smallholder farmers in Kefa Selatan, Timor Tengah Utara Regency, East Nusa Tenggara Province. In response, a community service program was initiated under the title Empowerment of KWT Mekar Sari in Kefa Selatan Subdistrict through Biochar Compost Training for Horticultural Cultivation. The objective of this activity was to enhance the capacity of local farmers, particularly members of the Mekar Sari Women Farmers Group (KWT), in producing and utilizing biochar compost to improve soil quality and increase horticultural crop productivity. The activity was carried out from July to September 2024 in Kefa Selatan and involved 15 local farmers as participants, facilitated by a team of 7 lecturers and students from the University of Timor. The methods employed included educational sessions on the benefits of compost, hands-on training in biochar compost production, and demonstration of its application in horticultural crop cultivation. As a result, participants gained practical knowledge and skills in sustainable composting techniques and showed increased awareness of organic farming benefits. The training also stimulated greater community engagement and environmental awareness. This program is expected to serve as a model for similar initiatives in other rural communities.

Abstract

Pakcoy cultivation in horticultura, organic material in the form of waste such as white oyster mushroom baglog waste. Baglog waste compost contains 2.03% N, 0.61% P and 1.78% K, this nutrient content is able to meet the nutrient needs of plants. Another organic material that can be used as a planting medium is biochar compost. Biochar compost can increase plant growth and yield. The aim of this research was to determine the comparative effect of white oyster mushroom baglog waste and biochar compost as a planting medium on the growth and yield of pak choy plants. The research used a randomized factorial design. White oyster mushroom baglog waste is the factor I have of three levels: baglog waste 0.625 kg/polybag (L1), baglog waste 1.25 kg/polybag (L2), baglog waste 1.875 kg/polybag (L3). Biochar compost is the second factor have of three levels: 0.625 kg biochar compost/polybag (B1), 1.25 kg biochar compost/polybag (B2), 1.875 kg biochar compost/polybag (B3). Each treatment was repeated 3 times so that there were 27 experimental units. The results of the was an interaction between white oyster mushroom baglog waste and biochar compost on the parameters of plant height 14-35 DAP, number of leaves 14-35 DAP, root dry weight, shoot dry weight with the best treatment of baglog waste 0.625 kg/polybag and biochar compost 0.625 kg/polybag. Providing white oyster mushroom baglog waste fertilizer had a significant effect on all observation parameters with the best treatment being baglog waste 0.625 kg/polybag.

Abstract

Pakchoi productivity in dryland areas is often constrained by water availability and suboptimal nutrient management strategies. However, the combined role of organic growing media, boron supply, and controlled irrigation in a vertical-wick fertigation system under dryland conditions remains underexplored. This study aimed to assess the presence of boron in compost- and biochar-modified growing media under water stress, which affects the morphophysiology of pakchoi in dryland conditions, using a vertical system with wick fertigation. The study was arranged in a split-plot design with two watering frequencies and a growing media formulation based on soil, compost, and biochar, with added boron. The results showed that watering frequency and boron-based growing media significantly affected leaf number, shoot and root biomass, root characteristics, and chlorophyll content. Consistent daily watering resulted in better growth and yield compared to watering every other day. Optimized combinations of regular irrigations and appropriate boron application enhanced biomass accumulation and chlorophyll content, indicating improved plant performance. These findings indicate that regular water management through a wick fertigation system, combined with organic growing media formulation and appropriate boron dosage, can significantly enhance pakchoi growth and productivity in dryland conditions. Importantly, this study provides a practical and scalable strategy for improving vegetable production under water-limited conditions.
