Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of substituting commercial feed with BSF maggot flour (Hermetia illucens) on the performance and productivity of laying quail. One hundred (100) 20 days-old laying quails with an initial weight of 2.9±8.26 g/head were divided into four treatments with five replicates per treatment using the completely randomized design (CRD). The treatments were T1 (0% BSF maggot flour as control), T2 (1.50% BSF maggot flour and 98.5% commercial feed), T3 (2% BSF maggot flour and 98% commercial feed), and T4 (2.50% BSF maggot flour and 97.5% commercial feed). The parameters measured were feed intake (g/head/mg), the body weight at first egg-laying (g/head), age at first egg-laying (days), the weight of first egg (g/grain), daily egg production (%), quail egg weight (g/item), and feed conversion ratio. The results showed that BSF maggot flour in commercial rations significantly affected feed intake (P<0.05) with a consumption range of 153-154 g/head/week.  However, the provision of BSF maggot flour up to 2.50% of commercial feed had no significant effect (P>0.05) on the body weight at first egg-laying, the age at the first egg laying, the weight of the first egg, daily egg production (%), egg weight (g/grain), and feed conversion ratio. This study shows that substituting 2% maggot BSF flour in commercial rations can increase feed intake and maintain egg production, weight, and conversion. Furthermore, giving BSF maggot flour to a level of 2.50% could not improve the body weight at the first laying of quail and the age at the first egg-laying.Keywords egg weight, feed consumption, feed conversion ratio, BSF maggot

Abstract

The research was aimed to evaluate the effect of biogas liquid waste as a fermentation starter of rice husk to the nutrient content, gross energy and bulk density. The method used laboratory experiment using a completely randomized design (CRD) on factorial pattern (6 x 5) with the level of biogas waste liquid : P0-treatment (0% negative control), P0+ (Cellulomonas sp as positive control), P1 (5%), P2 (10%), P3 (15%), P4 (20%) ml/g, and the incubation time : T0 (0 day control ), T1(7 days), T2 (14 days), T3 (21 days) and T4 (28 days). The variables measured was the content of ash, crude protein, crude fiber, crude fat, gross energy and bulk density. Data were analyzed by analysis of variance (anova) CRD Factorial pattern and if there is a significant difference was followed by Duncan's Multiple Range Test. The results of research was the level of biogas liquid waste and the incubation time provides a significant influence (P<0.01) on the nutrient content, gross energy and bulk density of rice husk. The interaction level liquid waste provision of biogas and incubation time was highly significant (P<0.01) on the nutrient content, gross energy and bulk density. It can be concluded that the addition of biogas liquid waste 15% (ml/g) with a time of incubation for 21 days have best rice husk quality content based on improvement of crude protein, crude fat, and gross energy with lowest crude fiber.

Abstract

ABSTRACT.The research purpose was to determine the nutrient content of dried poultry waste molasses block (DPW-UMB). The use of dried poultry waste in the manufacture of the urea-molasses block was as a substitute of urea and could improve the value added in dry season. The treatments used for research were T1 (15% manure layer chicken and 25% molasses), T2 (10% manure layer chicken and 30% molasses), and T3 (20% manure layer chicken and 30% molasses). Chemical analysis: the dried of poultry waste were analyzed for dry matter, crude protein, crude fibre, ash, fat, and gross energy. The statistical formulation diet composed with Microsoft Excel Ver. 2016. The results showed that the 20% manure layer chicken and 30% molasses (T3) were better than T2 and T1 on nutrient content with 92.04% Dry Matter (DM), 13.34% Crude Protein (CP), 13.39% Crude Fiber (CF), 37.16% ash, 3.44% fat, but low in Gross Energy (GE) (2631.63 kcal/kg). It could be concluded that dpw-umb T3 were dried of poultry waste contained sufficient levels of gross energy, crude protein, crude fibre, ash, and fat it could be used as feedstuff for ruminants for supplementation with the required nutrients.(Kotoran Ayam Molasses (Kamblok) Sebagai Potensi Supplementasi Pakan)ABSTRAK. Abstract

A meta-analysis was conducted to determine the effects of enzyme and probiotic on the growth performance of broiler chickens. A collection of publications covering the years from 2009 to 2021 was compiled using several keywords, such as enzyme, growth performance, and probiotic. A total of 136 comparisons from 19 in vivo investigations were used to create the final dataset. The data were analyzed using the OpenMEE software, considering the feed additives (enzymes and probiotics) as fixed effects and individual studies as random effects. The result showed an insignificant difference (P0.05) between enzymes and probiotics in terms of improving the body weight gain, feed intake, and feed conversion ratio (FCR) of broilers. In conclusion, both probiotics and enzymes improved broiler performances, such as body weight gain, feed intake and FCR. According to the meta-analysis, the ability of enzymes and probiotics to affect broiler performances was equal.
