Abstract

Kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan kesiapan akademik mahasiswa baru melalui program capacity building yang berfokus pada strategi belajar efektif dan pemahaman kode etik penggunaan kecerdasan buatan (AI) di perguruan tinggi. Fenomena meningkatnya penggunaan AI dalam konteks akademik menuntut mahasiswa untuk memiliki literasi digital yang disertai kesadaran etis agar tidak terjadi penyalahgunaan teknologi dalam proses pembelajaran. Kegiatan ini dilaksanakan di Jurusan Bahasa Inggris, Fakultas Bahasa dan Sastra, Universitas Negeri Makassar dengan peserta sebanyak 78 mahasiswa baru angkatan 2025. Metode pelaksanaan meliputi pre-test dan post-tes, penyampaian materi interaktif, simulasi strategi belajar aktif, diskusi kasus etika AI, dan refleksi kelompok. Materi kegiatan mencakup manajemen waktu belajar, teknik membaca dan mencatat efektif, strategi menghadapi ujian, serta prinsip etis penggunaan alat bantu berbasis AI seperti chatGPT dan Grammarly. Hasil kegiatan menunjukkan peningkatan signifikan dalam pemahaman mahasiswa terhadap strategi belajar mandiri dan kesadaran etis dalam menggunakan AI, yang tercermin dari peningkatan skor rata-rata dari 61,5 pada pre-test menjadi 87,1 pada post-test. Selain itu, peserta menunjukkan perubahan sikap positif terhadap pembelajaran mandiri dan tanggung jawab akademik. Dengan demikian, kegiatan capacity building ini berhasil memberikan kontribusi nyata dalam membangun budaya belajar yang produktif dan etis di lingkungan perguruan tinggi.

Abstract

This study examines how Indonesian online news constructs the discourse of rupiah redenomination by analysing linguistic patterns, discursive structures, and ideological representations embedded within financial reporting. Using Norman Fairclough’s Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA), the article “Pemerintah Kembali Hidupkan Wacana Redenominasi Rupiah, Ekonomi Peringatkan Risiko Inflasi” was analysed across five levels: textual analysis, discursive practice, social practice, integrated interpretation, and explanatory critique. The findings indicate a discursive tension between government ambition to advance redenomination as a formal policy initiative and economists’ cautionary framing that emphasises risks of inflation, unstable exchange rates, high implementation costs, and uneven public readiness. The news text privileges technocratic voices and constructs redenomination as a potentially destabilising policy rather than a symbol of economic modernisation. This study concludes that online media play a critical role in shaping public perception by foregrounding expert skepticism and reproducing ideologies of fiscal prudence, market stability, and technocratic authority.

Abstract

This qualitative study examines students’ perceptions and motivation toward the use of the Two Stay Two Stray (TSTS) technique in English for Economics classrooms. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews to students from Economics faculties. The results indicate that students generally perceive TSTS as an engaging and enjoyable method that enhances their understanding of English materials through peer explanation, interaction, and collaborative learning. Most participants stated that TSTS made complex concepts easier to grasp, increased their participation, and allowed them to learn new vocabulary and communication skills in a more relaxed environment. In terms of motivation, the technique encouraged students to prepare before class, boosted their confidence in speaking, and reduced anxiety compared to traditional lecture-based teaching. However, several challenges were noted, including limited time for explanation, uneven group roles, and the need for clearer instructions. Despite these constraints, students strongly recommended the continued use of TSTS and suggested improvements in time management, group allocation, and the addition  of games or ice-breaking activities to enhance engagement. The study concludes that TSTS is an effective and motivating collaborative strategy for teaching English for Economics.

Abstract

This study investigates the influence of social media utilization as an informal learning source on the digital business English communication competence of Business English Communication (BEC) students at Universitas Negeri Makassar (UNM). Framed within the paradigm of Informal Digital Learning of English (IDLE) and online informal language learning (OILL), this descriptive correlational study employed a five-point Likert-scale questionnaire administered to 82 active BEC students across multiple academic cohorts. The instrument comprised 10 items measuring social media-based informal learning behaviors (Variable X) and 10 items assessing digital business English communication competence (Variable Y). Pearson correlation and simple linear regression analyses were conducted to examine the relationship and predictive contribution of the independent variable. Results revealed a positive and statistically significant correlation between social media utilization as an informal learning source and digital business English communication competence (r = 0.582, p < 0.001). Regression analysis yielded a model of Y = 12.725 + 0.523X (R² = 0.339, p < 0.001), indicating that informal social media learning accounts for 33.9% of the variance in students’ communication competence. TikTok emerged as the most frequently utilized platform (51.2%), followed by Instagram (30.5%) and YouTube (13.4%). These findings confirm that social media constitutes a meaningful informal learning ecosystem for Business English development and carry implications for curriculum integration in BEC programs.

Abstract

Abstrak. Publikasi artikel pada jurnal internasional bereputasi menjadi salah satu indikator penting dalam mendukung peningkatan kualitas akademik dan pencapaian Indikator Kinerja Utama (IKU) perguruan tinggi. Namun, masih banyak dosen yang menghadapi berbagai kendala dalam proses penulisan dan publikasi artikel ilmiah internasional, seperti kesulitan memahami standar jurnal, proses editorial, dan strategi publikasi. Kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan pemahaman dan kapasitas dosen dalam menulis artikel ilmiah pada jurnal internasional bereputasi melalui workshop bersama editor jurnal internasional. Kegiatan dilaksanakan oleh Tim IKU Fakultas Bahasa dan Sastra Universitas Negeri Makassar secara daring melalui Zoom Meeting dalam tiga kali pertemuan dengan durasi kurang lebih dua jam pada setiap sesi. Workshop menghadirkan tiga narasumber internasional, yaitu Dr. Patrick Blessinger, Candace Conte, dan Prof. Jason Turner. Metode pelaksanaan dilakukan melalui penyampaian materi, diskusi interaktif, sesi tanya jawab, dan pembahasan manuskrip peserta. Hasil kegiatan menunjukkan bahwa peserta memperoleh peningkatan pemahaman mengenai strategi publikasi internasional, proses editorial, teknik merespons reviewer, serta pentingnya kesesuaian artikel dengan scope jurnal. Peserta juga menunjukkan antusiasme yang tinggi selama kegiatan berlangsung dan menghasilkan draft artikel ilmiah yang siap dikembangkan untuk publikasi internasional. Kegiatan ini memberikan kontribusi positif terhadap penguatan budaya publikasi akademik dan mendukung pencapaian IKU perguruan tinggi, khususnya pada aspek publikasi internasional bereputasi.Kata Kunci: workshop, publikasi internasional, jurnal bereputasi, editor jurnal, IKU perguruan tinggi.
