Abstract

Background: Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) is an escalating global public health issue. By 2024, CKD ranked sixth among the top ten causes of death among Indonesian hajj pilgrims and served as a comorbidity for the two leading causes of mortality, hypertension and cardiovascular diseases. Purpose: This study aims to identify the risk factors of CKD among Indonesian prospective hajj pilgrims in 2024. Methods: A cross-sectional design was utilized using secondary data from the Integrated Hajj Computerized System for Health Sector (Siskohatkes) for all registered pilgrims in 2024. A total of 217,476 participants were enrolled using purposive sampling. Data were analyzed using multivariate logistic regression. Results: The prevalence of CKD among prospective Indonesian hajj pilgrims was 0.2%. Multivariate analysis revealed significant risk factors, including family history of CKD (aPOR = 3.51; 95% CI: 1.30–9.48), diabetes mellitus (aPOR = 2.25; 95% CI: 1.82–2.78) male (aPOR = 2.10; 95% CI: 1.71–2.57), age ≥ 60 years (aPOR = 1.93; 95% CI: 1.48–2.52), and hypertension (aPOR = 1,90; 95% CI: 1,48–2,44). Conclusions: This study highlights risk factors for CKD among prospective Indonesian hajj pilgrims, with a family history of CKD being the most dominant risk factor. The Indonesian Hajj Health Center is advised to standardize the diagnostic methods for CKD and integrate health information systems to serve as a reference for comparison of examination results.

Abstract

Even though Prevention of Mother to Child Transmission (PMTCT) program has been running in Indonesia since 2006, the proportion of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)-infected pregnant women remains high in some districts in Indonesia. The PMTCT program aims to reduce transmission of HIV from mother to child. Thus it requires an examination of the PMTCT program implementation. The study was a qualitative study on PMTCT program implementation in South Jakarta, Indonesia, whereas the proportion of children with HIV positive in the area was quite high. The analysis used domain analysis by looking the implementation of PMTCT as a system consisting of input, process and output. PMTCT strategy is based on a comprehensive four-pronged strategy. This study found that scaling-up communication and education about PMTCT program from health provider to community was needed. In the first prong, there was no specific health provider for PMTCT program, it was still integrated with the MCH staff. PMTCT program did not disseminate information to the community. Therefore, it seemed that it was underutilized. In the second prong, implementation of HIV testing and counseling for couples of women living with HIV remained a bottleneck because women living with HIV felt fear to inform their HIV status to their partners. Thus, counseling and HIV testing for couples have not benefited at all. These women were unsatisfied with the quality of counseling, and the failure to provide antiretroviral treatments. This study found the low coverage and less responsiveness of PMTCT program to build a network of partners with various elements of government.

Abstract

The world is still facing the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, and the current challenge is the epidemic, which was thought to have become endemic, but it seems far from that. This article describe the recent progress of the COVID-19 globally, including in Indonesia, and what should be done towards building community health resilience. Each day, more than 500,000 new cases are being detected worldwide. This condition shows that the present pandemic is not over and still requires global vigilance. The challenge faced by the world, and Indonesia, is to develop resilient communities as a prerequisite to controlling any future epidemic. This can be achieved by adopting five strategies: strengthen and promote access to public health and social services, promote health and wellness and disaster preparedness, expand communication and collaboration, engage at-risk individuals and activate programs to protect their health, and build social connectedness.

Abstract

Indonesia still faces the problem of stunting with a prevalence of above 20%. To achieve the government's target of reducing the prevalence of stunting to 14%, a lot of effort is needed. This research was conducted aimed at analysing the incidence of stunting in Depok because the prevalence of stunting in Depok is still high. This study used qualitative research method by using in-depth interview to 5 informants. The results of this research found that the main causes of stunting are a lack of nutritious food intake and infectious diseases which are influenced by parenting patterns and family socio-economics. To overcome this, the Depok city government is trying to carry out early detection of pregnant women with chronic energy deficiency (CED), anaemia and providing additional food for pregnant women with CED. Academics routinely hold advocacy and provide policy and program recommendations from research conducted, so that it is based on studies conducted in Indonesia and the world. Abstract

Malaria remains a major health issue in Indonesia, particularly in the eastern regions, which contribute to about 90% of national cases. Mimika Regency, especially Mimika Baru District, is one of the high-endemic areas. This study aimed to identify human and environmental risk factors associated with malaria incidence. The research, conducted from May to June 2025 in Mimika Baru District, used a cross-sectional design with 155 respondents selected through stratified random sampling. Data were analyzed univariately and bivariately using the chi-square test. Variables included age, gender, education, occupation, healthcare access, knowledge, ventilation screen use, mosquito net use, ceiling availability, and the existence of mosquito breeding sites, resting places, and animal shelters. Results showed that 83.6% of respondents had contracted malaria in the past year. Factors significantly associated with malaria incidence were the use of ventilation screens (p=0.050), mosquito nets (p=0.025), ceilings (p=0.015), breeding sites (p=0.002), resting places (p=0.015), and animal shelters (p=0.025). Strengthening malaria prevention and control through public education, distribution of insecticide-treated nets, and improved environmental management is recommended.

Abstract

ABSTRACT Stunting in Indonesia is a chronic problem. This is due to the nutritional intake given, in a long time, not in accordance with the needs. This research aims to determine the factors related to the incidence of stunting in Sukabumi City in 2023. This research is a quantitative study using a cross-sectional approach. Held in July 2023 in Sukabumi. The population of this study were all mothers with toddlers in Sukabumi, with a total sample of 237 people using cluster random sampling technique. The research data were analyzed using univariate, bivariate, and multivariate analysis. Univariate analysis included descriptive and frequency analysis, bivariate analysis used the chi-square test, and multivariate analysis used multiple logistic regression tests. The results of the final model of the multiple logistic regression test showed that two variables were significantly related to the incidence of stunting, namely Exclusive Breastfeeding with a p-value of 0.004 (aPOR: 0.35; 95% CI: 0.169—0.716), and History of Infectious Diseases with a p-value of 0.000 (aPOR: 4.34; 95% CI: 2.379—7.901). Based on the research results, it can be concluded that the factors related to the incidence of stunting in Sukabumi are exclusive breastfeeding and a history of infectious diseases. Exclusive breastfeeding is a protective factor for stunting in toddlers, while a history of infectious disease is a risk factor for stunting in toddlers. Keywords: Stunting, Risk Factors, Toddler  ABSTRAK Stunting di Indonesia merupakan permasalahan kronis.
