Abstract

The aim of this research is to describe the critical thinking abilities of class X SMA Negeri 2 Grabag students. The research method used was qualitative with a research focus on the subject of three class X-2 students at SMA Negeri 2 Grabag, who represented various levels of ability, namely high group students, medium group students and low group students. Data collected through a written test which includes critical thinking indicators in mathematics interviews. The research results showed that there were 23% of students in the high category, 63% of students in the medium category, and 14% of students in the low category. Students in the high group are able to master all indicators of critical thinking in statistics material. Students with moderate abilities show good abilities except for some deficiencies in interpretation and analysis. Students with low abilities tend to have limitations in data interpretation, inference and other critical thinking skills such as analysis, evaluation and inference. The implication of these findings is the need for learning strategies to improve students' critical thinking skills in understanding and applying statistical concepts.

Abstract

Abstract

Many Mathematics Education students face difficulties in learning systems of linear equations in three variables, particularly when the material is delivered in English. This study aimed to develop an English-based electronic module that meets the criteria of validity, practicality, and effectiveness. Using the ADDIE development model, the product was evaluated by two validators (material expert and media expert) and implemented with 35 students enrolled in the selected topics in school mathematics course. The validation results showed that the module achieved an average validity score of 91.11% for content feasibility and 88.57% for language feasibility, indicating a ‘very valid’ category. Student responses indicated that the module was practical, with an overall practicality score of 74.17%. Effectiveness testing demonstrated that 77.14% of students met the Minimum Competency Criteria (MCC), placing the module in the effective category. These findings suggest that the English-based electronic module is feasible for use in supporting students’ conceptual understanding and strengthening language-based mathematical literacy, particularly in learning systems of linear equations in three variables.

Abstract

Yogyakarta's reputation as a cultural city, student city, and tourist destination does not exempt it from acts of criminality. The increasingly rampant phenomenon of klitih, particularly in the Yogyakarta area, is a transformation of a local term that originally had a positive meaning but has now shifted into a form of street violence committed by youths. This article aims to examine klitih within the context of social reality and connect it to the socialist utopian perspective of Edward Bellamy. Klitih is viewed as a reflection of social failure in educating and shaping the character of adolescents, triggered by weak family control, social environment, and educational institutions. Through a descriptive-qualitative approach and literature review, this article identifies the driving factors behind klitih, including adolescent identity crises, poor parenting patterns, character-deficient education, and negative environmental influences. Within Bellamy's conceptual framework, solutions to the klitih phenomenon must be based on social transformation to eliminate inequality, build solidarity, and strengthen social institutions such as families, schools, and communities. Preventive strategies can be implemented through schools by emphasizing character education, and through active roles of families, law enforcement, and communities that support the healthy and just development of adolescents. Thus, addressing klitih requires collaborative efforts from all parties so that its occurrence can be minimized, or even eliminated.
