Abstract

Language and culture are closely intertwined and inseparable. When someone learns a language, they also acquire the values and norms of the community that speaks it. In Arabic language teaching books like Arabiyyah Baina Yadaik, various materials introduce aspects of Arab culture such as social life, education, health, economy, and the environment. The purpose of this study is to investigate the institutional and non-institutional customs within the Arab community in schools as presented in the book "Al Arabiyyah Baina Yadaik Vol. 1a." This research adopts a library research approach, employing a qualitative descriptive method. The primary data source is the material from Kitab Al Arabiyah Baina Yadaik Vol. 1a in Addirasah. Secondary sources include books, previous research, and scientific articles related to the study's title. Data collection techniques primarily involve documentation. The analysis technique used is Content Analysis, which involves analyzing data based on its content. The research findings conclude that indigenous Arab customs in schools, as presented in the seventh theme al-dirasah, can be categorized into two groups: Customary Institutions and Non-Institutions. The Non-Institutional Customs identified include: (1) Referring to educators as Muallim/Muallimah or Mudarris/Mudarrisah, (2) Utilizing library and laboratory facilities during breaks, and (3) Commuting to school by bus or car.

Abstract

This research aims to determine the effect of the two stay, two stray learning model on the social studies learning outcomes of fifth-grade students at Al-Munawar Islamic Elementary School. The type of research used in this study is experimental research (experiment research). The research design used in this study is a quasi-experiment design in the form of a nonequivalent control group design. The experimental class is the class that receives treatment in the form of the "Two Stay, Two Stray" learning model, while the control class continues to use conventional learning. Class V Qatar serves as the experimental class, and class V Albania serves as the control class. The data collection instrument used is in the form of multiple-choice tests. The analysis used an independent sample t-test with the assistance of SPSS version 21. The pre- and post-test data underwent a normality test, and the results showed a normal distribution. Subsequently, a hypothesis test was conducted using a parametric statistical test, namely the independent sample t-test with SPSS Statistics 21.0. In the hypothesis test, if the significance value (2-tailed) < 0.05, then the null hypothesis (H0) is rejected and the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted; if the significance value (2-tailed) > 0.05, then H0 is accepted and Ha is rejected. The result obtained was a significance value (2-tailed) > 0.05, specifically 0.060 < 0.05. In conclusion, (H0) is accepted, indicating that there is an influence of the "Two Stay Two Stray" learning model on students' learning outcomes. It can be concluded that the "Two Stay, Two Stray" learning model has an impact on the social studies learning outcomes of fifth-grade students at Al-Munawwar Islamic Elementary School.

Abstract

Innovative teaching approaches that foster active learning are increasingly recognized as essential in modern education. One such approach is co-creation, which emphasizes student engagement, collaboration, and shared responsibility in the learning process. This study aims to explore the implementation of co-creation in teaching Basic Grammar, Basic Writing, and Translation and analyse its impact on student learning outcomes. A qualitative research methodology was employed, focusing on students enrolled in the English Language Education Program. Data collection methods included focus group discussions, classroom observations, and interviews to gain insights into students’ experiences with co-creation-based instruction. The study was conducted at a higher education institution specializing in English language education. The findings reveal that various co-creation techniques—such as peer feedback, collaborative writing projects, grammar exercises, and interactive translation tasks—positively influenced student engagement, autonomous learning, and critical thinking. Students demonstrated a greater sense of responsibility in their learning, enhanced communication skills, and improved comprehension of language concepts. Additionally, co-creation facilitated a more interactive classroom environment where students actively contributed to the learning process rather than being passive recipients of knowledge. Overall, the study concludes that co-creation is an effective pedagogical strategy that enhances learning experiences in English language instruction. Its implementation fosters collaboration, motivation, and deeper understanding of grammar, writing, and translation. However, further research is recommended to examine quantitative impacts on student achievement, assess its applicability in broader educational settings, and explore potential challenges in implementation. Future studies may also investigate ways to optimize co-creation methods for different learning styles and subject areas.

Abstract

This study introduces an innovative approach to English for Specific Purposes (ESP) by developing an English for Mathematics textbook infused with local wisdom. This novel integration bridges the gap between linguistic competence and cultural relevance in mathematics education. Employing the Research and Development method, this work addresses a critical gap in ESP materials by embedding indigenous knowledge into mathematical English instruction, a unique contribution to the field. Participants from the Mathematics Education Study Program at STAIN Mandailing Natal provided insights through questionnaires, validation sheets, and interviews, with data analyzed using descriptive statistics. The findings reveal a strong student need for a textbook that integrates mathematical English vocabulary, communicative teaching methods, and skill-based tasks in speaking and reading. The integration of local wisdom enhances student engagement. It promotes culturally responsive learning, making the textbook distinct from standard ESP materials. Expert reviews affirmed its high quality in terms of content, design, and language. Student responses highlighted its practicality, interactivity, and creativity, reflecting its educational innovation. This study contributes to the global ESP field by demonstrating that localized content can enhance English skills in specific disciplines, providing a model adaptable to other contexts. The textbook emerges as a groundbreaking tool for culturally sustaining mathematics education.

Abstract

This autoethnographic study explores my personal journey of learning English, framed through the lens of sociocultural theory. By reflecting on key stages of my life, from early childhood exposure and formal schooling to informal learning through media and peer interaction, the research describes how language development is not a linear or purely academic process, but one shaped by social relationships, cultural environments, and evolving identity. Drawing on Vygotsky’s sociocultural theory and related scholarship, the narrative traces how various mediators, including family, teachers, technology, and community have influenced my motivation, confidence, and sense of belonging in English-speaking contexts. The findings reveal that language learning is deeply intertwined with identity negotiation and cultural integration, culminating in a sense of ownership over the English language. This study contributes to the field by emphasizing the emotional, reflective, and personal dimensions of language acquisition, which are often overlooked in traditional second language research. It suggests that incorporating learners’ lived experiences, informal learning practices, and identity development into language education can foster more inclusive and meaningful pedagogies. The research also opens pathways for further studies using narrative and qualitative approaches to better understand the complex, socioculturally embedded nature of language learning.

Abstract

Research on digital literacy and digital competence in English teacher education has expanded substantially over the past decade, reflecting growing scholarly attention to teachers’ roles in digitally mediated learning environments. This study systematically maps publication trends, collaboration patterns, and thematic emphases in this research domain, identifying how digital literacy and digital competence are conceptualized and empirically addressed. A Systematic Literature Review (SLR) was conducted following the PRISMA framework, drawing on Scopus-indexed publications from 2015 to 2025. Bibliometric analysis examined publication growth, co-authorship networks, country contributions, and keyword co-occurrences, complemented by thematic synthesis to interpret conceptual and pedagogical patterns. VOSviewer was used to visualize bibliometric linkages. Findings indicate steady publication growth with limited international collaboration and regional concentration, particularly in Southeast Asia. Thematic synthesis reveals that digital literacy is commonly framed as foundational skills that include information access, communication, and basic technology use, while digital competence emphasizes pedagogical integration, professional development, and context-responsive teaching. Advanced aspects such as AI-supported pedagogy, critical digital engagement, and transformative digital practices remain less explored. Overall, both constructs are central in English teacher education but are addressed with varying conceptual depth.
