Abstract

This study aims to examine the feasibility and practicality of a science virtual laboratory oriented towards Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) using Articulate Storyline. The research employed a Design and Development Research (DDR) approach based on the ADDIE model, comprising the stages of Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation. Data were collected using validation questionnaires completed by six experts in content and media, along with user responses from 37 pre-service science teachers. The results were analyzed descriptively to determine the feasibility and practicality categories of the developed product. Content expert evaluations yielded average scores of 3.78 for presentation, 3.83 for content quality, 3.70 for language use, and 4.00 for HOTS orientation, all categorized as valid. Media expert evaluations resulted in average scores of 3.73 for software engineering, 3.83 for instructional design, 3.67 for visual communication, and 3.56 for virtual laboratory components, all falling within the valid and usable range. Meanwhile, user responses indicated a practicality percentage of 87.79%, categorized as very practical. The structured practical activities and post-practice evaluation tasks provided within the virtual laboratory effectively contributed to enhancing the Higher Order Thinking Skills of pre-service science teachers. Keywords: articulate storyline, higher order thinking skills, pre-service science teachers, virtual science laboratory,

Abstract

Bio-ecopreneurship's assistance strengthened creativity and entrepreneurial interests for the members of Majelis Taklim Al-munawwaroh in Bandung Regency. This community development used the Asset-Based Community Development (ABCD) method, with the target subject of assistance being 30 women members of Majelis Taklim, aged 30 to 55 years. Community Development implementers use instruments in the form of observation sheets and deep interviews to photograph the mentoring process and reveal the variety of creativity of participants in making bio-ecopreneurship-based products, such as fermented food and drinks in the form of nata de soya and yoghurt, ecoprint products, used cooking oil soap, and organic liquid fertilizer. The results show that the mentoring activities can stimulate interest, enthusiasm, and curiosity. Based on the monitoring and evaluation results, it can be seen that mentoring activities also have implications for developing the productivity and creativity of the women of the Taklim Council in making new creations such as various varieties of yoghurt flavors, packaging nata de soya, making ecoprint hijabs and tote bags, packaging liquid organic fertilizer and multiple forms of used cooking oil soap. This is the first step in fostering entrepreneurial enthusiasm and capital among the mentoring participants.

Abstract

Abstract

The low performance of Indonesian students in the PISA 2022 science assessment highlights ongoing challenges in science literacy, especially in interpreting scientific visuals. Textbooks, as the primary learning resource, play a vital role in shaping students’ conceptual understanding. This study examines how water related topics are visually represented in junior high school science textbooks and explores their implications for science literacy and potential misconceptions. A descriptive qualitative method was applied using purposive sampling of nine BSE textbooks published by the Ministry of Education and Culture, covering grades VII–IX in both the 2013 and Merdeka (Indonesian independent) curricula. Visual data were classified into four categories: water, water and society, technology, and sustainability and responsibility. Content analysis was conducted with a coding instrument validated by two experts, one in water literacy and the other in science learning and the data were analyzed using the Miles and Huberman model with RStudio support for visualization. In total, 104 visuals were identified. The majority (63%) belonged to the “water” category, while “water and society” (17%), “technology” (12%), and “sustainability and responsibility” (8%) were underrepresented. Both curricula concentrated visuals in grade VII, with fewer in grades VIII and IX. Common inaccuracies included incomplete water cycle diagrams that omitted infiltration and percolation processes, potentially fostering misconceptions. These findings indicate that textbook visuals emphasize conceptual aspects of water while neglecting social, technological, and sustainability dimensions. This imbalance restricts students’ opportunities to develop comprehensive science literacy. The study underscores the need for more accurate, contextual, and real world aligned textbook visuals to support curriculum goals and reduce misconceptions.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the application of whatsapp group online learning for Madrasah Ibtidaiyyah students in the middle of the covid-19 pandemic at MI NU Nurus Shofa Kudus. Researchers use qualitative descriptive methods. In this study the methods of data collection were observation and interviews. Research indicates that almost most of MI NU Nurus Shofa's teachers carried out online studies in the middle of the covid-19 pandemic. As for the most widely used application in promoting online learning the whatsapp application, for then the whatsapp group is created. A teacher's material delivery is by having his students look at TVRI television and read the LKS book according to his subject. The methods of learning used are assignments and practices, the learning media used is a mobile phone using a whatsapp application, while the learning model is used a video. The problem students are experiencing is that they have not been able to use the whatsapp application, to send assignments, to do the problem, to understand the material, and to limit access to the Internet. In this case it takes a teacher's creativity to achieve the purpose of learning.
