The survey method is used to collect data through questionnaires that have been developed and have undergone expert validation. Questionnaires were distributed to 160 state elementary school teachers in West Bandung Regency. The questionnaire includes 7 question items about teacher readiness, level of understanding of the Merdeka Curriculum, and identification of obstacles and strategies for overcoming them. The data collected was analyzed quantitatively using a descriptive statistical approach. The research results show that teachers are ready to implement the Independent Curriculum but their understanding is still limited which has an impact on the presence of challenges in its implementation. These findings have implications for the urgency of increasing teachers' understanding regarding the Independent Curriculum, skills in designing and implementing learning in accordance with the characteristics of the Independent Curriculum, including assessment. With better understanding and skills, the challenges faced will be overcome.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the madrasa management strategy in creating a quality madrasa climate to improve the quality of Islamic education in Indonesia. The research method used is a mixed method, namely by combining quantitative and qualitative data. Quantitative data is in the form of the percentage of madrasa climate implementation. Qualitative data is in the form of descriptions of respondents' perceptions of the use of the madrasah climate. Respondents in this study were madrasa heads, educators, and employees in the madrasa environment, totaling 68 people. These respondents came from 7 provinces in Indonesia who were randomly selected based on region (cluster random sampling). Researchers analyzed quantitative data from the results of the questionnaire descriptively. Meanwhile, qualitative data analysis uses the Miles Huberman model. The results of this study indicate that 89.7% of respondents improve the quality of education services to produce a quality madrasah climate. There are 83.8% of madrasas that have the characteristics of forming a positive madrasa climate such as forming an Islamic culture, improving skills, developing students' interests and talents, and paying attention to character values. The implementation of this strategy is the result of collaboration between madrasa heads, educators, staff, and students. This is indicated by the successive percentages of 92%, 92.6% and 85.3%. The findings of this study reveal that the formation of a quality madrasah climate does not give up the values of religious moderation in the actualization of religion for students in the midst of religious pluralism in Indonesia.

Abstract

This research aims to develop interactive media using Macromedia Flash 8 software in science and technology subjects in elementary schools. This research uses a Research and Development (RD) approach with the Analysis, Design, Develop, Implement, Evaluate (ADDIE) model. It was conducted at three elementary schools in West Sumatra with fourth-grade students as research subjects. Qualitative and quantitative data were obtained from teacher and student practicality questionnaires, as well as evaluation tests in the form of pretest and posttest. Data collection utilized validation sheets, questionnaires, and evaluation tests. The results of the interactive multimedia validity test based on Macromedia Flash 8 were found to be in a very valid category (scoring 81-100% based on expert assessments) with an average percentage of 90%. The practicality assessment yielded an average percentage of 88.5% in the highly practical category (scoring 85.01-100%). The effectiveness evaluation resulted in an N-Gain Score (a metric measuring the increase between pre and post-test scores) of 0.77, indicating a high level of gain, and a percentage of 77.87 in the effective category. The evaluations affirm that Macromedia Flash 8-based interactive media is valid, practical, effective, and suitable for educational use in enhancing science learning for elementary students. The findings have implications for integrating such multimedia tools in science curriculum design and teacher training to facilitate more engaging and effective delivery of abstract scientific concepts. Future research could explore wider implementation and long-term impacts on student learning outcomes.

Abstract

Critical thinking is essential to be acquired by today's generation specifically since it is one of the skills in the 21st-century skills. Considering its importance, developing students' high-order thinking skills has become a requirement for teachers, specifically in their language learning. This study investigates an EFL teacher's strategies in promoting students' high-order thinking skills and the challenges they face in implementing it. A case study was conducted involving one junior high school teacher in Jember. The interview and classroom observation were conducted to collect the data. The data was analyzed by classifying the strategy used by the teacher using Hennessy et al.'s Scheme for Educational Dialogue Analysis and specifying the challenges faced by them through an interview. The findings of this study indicated that most strategies used by the teacher were to invite elaboration or reasoning. The challenge encountered by the teacher was the difficulties in teaching HOTS for low achiever students, difficulties in managing passive students in the classroom, and difficulties in constructing HOTS strategy in some skills in English. Therefore, more strategies to actively engage student participation in the classroom and good classroom management are needed to extend students’ high-order thinking skills.
