Abstract

This research is motivated by 21st-century learning which is centred on patterns of students' reading literacy comprehension, which is linked to the concept of local wisdom as a strategy for implementing local wisdom-based reading literacy in the form of teaching materials or modules as an effort to build insight, knowledge, personality, mentality and morality for students.  This study aims to develop local wisdom-based literacy modules for teaching reading comprehension in elementary schools that are feasible to use. This research is a Research and Development (RD), using the 4-D Model (Define, Design, Development, and Disseminate). The results of product validation data by media, material and language experts using percentage and category descriptive techniques to show the module's validity, practicality/feasibility. This research was carried out in an elementary school in Pekanbau. The results of the validation by the media expert validator and the material and language expert validator obtained a score of 0.848 in stage II and 0.924 in stage II, so it was categorized as very valid for use. The content and language validation results achieved a score of 0.578 in stage I and 0.800 in stage II, indicating a categorization ranging from valid to highly valid.   The local wisdom-based literacy module testing yielded student learning results with an average score of 84.54, indicating excellent performance.  The results of the student practicality test obtained an overall average of 90.67% and the teacher's practicality test of 88.33%. From the overall average practicality test, students and teachers are categorized as very practical and feasible to use or disseminate. Based on the data above, this research is expected to have implications academically, especially to elementary school as a reference source in developing literacy modules based on local wisdom in literacy learning.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the function of using politeness as an imperative in academic interaction. The deep data collection study was done through three techniques: recording, observation, and interviews. The in-depth data study analyzed in this research is in the form of recorded data from lecturers' and students' speeches. The selected data is the result of lecturers' speeches to students and students' speeches to lecturers in lectures which contain the imperative function of politeness. Note data fields in the form of recorded data fields descriptive and reflective. In addition, research data can be obtained from generation in a way creative intuition language researcher. The results of the research show that the use of imperative politeness functions by lecturers towards students includes: (1) commanding function, (2) requesting function, (3) prohibiting function, (4) inviting function, (5) suggesting function, (6) expecting function, (7) encouraging function, and (8) urging function. Use function politeness, which is imperative from student to lecturer in academic interaction, includes (1) function application and (2) function request. Politeness markers used to represent the function of imperative politeness in academic interaction include (1) linguistic politeness markers, (2) persona markers, and (3) informal diction markers. The study reveals that lecturers with power in the classroom often consider linguistic politeness in speaking, allowing students to express their speech the way the lecturer speaks. However, this can lead to a lack of harmony between lecturers and students, and may not set an example for students in speaking.

Abstract

This study explores the effectiveness of differentiated learning strategies in improving elementary students' mathematical critical thinking skills. The independent variable is the application of differentiated learning strategies, while the dependent variable is the students' mathematical critical thinking ability. A quantitative approach was used, utilizing a quasi-experimental design with a non-equivalent control group. The sample included 30 fourth-grade students from Al-Falaah Islamic Elementary School and 30 from Jombang 01 Ciputat Elementary School, selected through purposive sampling. Data collection involved tests, questionnaires, observation sheets, and interview guides, and the analysis was conducted using independent sample t-tests and N-Gain tests with the help of SPSS IBM 22.0 software. The statistical analysis showed a significant effect of differentiated learning strategies on critical thinking skills, with a p-value of 0.000 and an N-Gain score of 74.56%. This indicates a notable improvement in students’ abilities in interpretation, analysis, evaluation, and inference. Differentiated learning strategies accounted for 58% of the variation in outcomes, with the remaining 42% influenced by other factors. In conclusion, differentiated learning strategies significantly enhance elementary students' mathematical critical thinking, and educators are encouraged to adopt these methods to foster deeper cognitive engagement.

Abstract

This research scrutinizes the challenges surrounding establishing learning tutors within the State Civil Apparatus (ASN) and their impact on educational performance. With a sample of 508 respondents selected through stratified random sampling from a population of 1986 tutors in Indonesia, the study employs path analysis to investigate the direct and indirect influences of religiosity, self-efficacy, competence, and achievement motivation on learning performance. The results indicate significant positive effects: religiosity, self-efficacy, and competence independently impact learning performance, with achievement motivation mediating these relationships. The combined influence of religiosity, self-efficacy, competence, and achievement motivation positively affects learning performance, constituting a 42.1% explanatory power, leaving 57.9% unexplored. Practical implications include recommendations for learning tutors to enhance religiosity, self-efficacy, competence, and achievement motivation for improved performance. Institutional support should prioritize competence development, recognizing its pivotal role. Policymakers in education are urged to address the distinct challenges tutors face, necessitating policy adjustments. Future research involves exploring additional factors contributing to the unexplored 57.9% influence on learning performance, advancing the nuanced understanding of this intricate relationship.

Abstract

The development of research-based learning modules is crucial for enhancing students' scientific literacy, particularly in the context of Islamic educational institutions. This study addresses the need for a validated and practical science literacy module for Physics instruction at State Madrasah Aliyah (Islamic high schools) in Banda Aceh City. This research employed a development research approach using the ADDIE model (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation) to design and validate the learning module. The module underwent a three-stage validation process, including the initial module validity test, a second validation focusing on the content material, and a third test assessing the module’s practicality in classroom use. The findings indicate that the module passed through all three stages of testing with positive results. The module validity, content validity, and practicality were all rated as highly valid by respective validators, including module development experts, content specialists, and practicality assessors. The results suggest that the research-based science literacy module is not only valid in terms of content and structure but also practical for use in Physics instruction. The feedback from validators demonstrates that the module is effective and suitable for teaching purposes. The developed module is highly valid and practical for Physics instruction at State Madrasah Aliyah in Banda Aceh. It is feasible for implementation by Physics teachers to enhance students' scientific literacy in line with the research objectives.

Abstract

Adolescent psychiatry reveals that 95.4% of adolescents aged 16-24 exhibit anxiety symptoms, and 88% show signs of depression, largely due to excessive social media use, resulting in character decline and apathy. This study explores the role of early character building in improving the formation of ethics in children in Sarolangun Regency, addressing concerns related to the negative effects of social media. A qualitative, descriptive approach was employed to investigate how habituation practices contribute to the development of student ethics. The study focused on five schools in Sarolangun Regency: SDIT AL Fatih, SDIT Rahmatul Ummah, SDIT AL Kahfi, SDN 1, and SDIT AS-Salam. Data collection involved interviews and observations of students, teachers, and parents to assess their roles in ethical development. The findings demonstrate that while technological advancements offer various benefits, they also introduce significant challenges, particularly in the realm of student behavior. Teachers actively work to mitigate the negative impacts of social media by providing guidance, instruction, and education on its dangers. Additionally, parents play an essential role in fostering ethical behavior, contributing significantly to children's moral development through consistent support and proper guidance. Both educators and parents are pivotal in guiding students' ethical growth amidst the increasing influence of social media. The combined efforts of these stakeholders ensure that children develop strong ethical foundations, helping counteract the potential negative impacts of technology. The study highlights the importance of early ethical education and the need for collaboration between teachers and parents to effectively guide children in the responsible use of social media.
