Abstract

Critical thinking is the ability to think reasonedly and reflectively. It emphasizes making decisions about what to believe or do. So, students must have the ability to be able to compete in the industrial revolution 5.0 era. This research aims to describe students' critical thinking skills in integrated biology learning on biodiversity material. This research is exploratory research with a qualitative and quantitative descriptive approach. The objects in this research were 109 students of class X MAS Raudlatul Ulum for the academic year 2023/2024. Data collection was carried out using test methods (multiple choice and essay), observation, and interviews. The test questions are arranged according to indicators of critical thinking skills namely; interpretation, analysis, evaluation, and inference. The result shows that students' critical thinking skills are not good category. The results of observations and interviews show that students are not yet able to analyze questions independently, process and conclude the various information they obtain, and they do not yet have the confidence to express the opinions or thoughts they have. The varied abilities of students also influence the research findings, because the research subjects are new students from various junior high schools who have diverse educational backgrounds and educational systems. Based on the result, teachers should train and familiarize students with being able to think critically through various effective and efficient learning processes.

Abstract

Augmentative alternative communication (AAC) is an important component for people with multiple disabilities who have communication barriers. Many studies have focused on the implementation of AAC in the classroom but limited outside of school. This study aims to describe parents' experiences of assisting their multiple disabilities with visual impairment (MDVI) children to use AAC at home after school. This study used a qualitative ethnographic approach involving 6 parents of MDVI children with complex communication needs. The researcher conducted in-depth interviews, observations, and documentation studies. Thematic analysis using the manual data analysis procedure (MDAP) was applied in this study. 5 central themes were found in this study including parents' paradigm, acceptance, challenges, concerns, and expectations on the use of AAC at home. Furthermore, this study recommends further studies on member involvement to support communication independence through AAC for multiple disabilities post-graduation.

Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the strategies used by teachers of English in teaching reading comprehension at SMP Islam Al-Fahd Palembang. This type of research was qualitative. The research instruments were an observation checklist and interviews. The subjects of this study were two teachers of English having experience teaching English for more than five years and being certified. The results of the study found that two strategies were used by the teacher in teaching reading comprehension, namely Scaffolding and QARs (Question-Answer Relationships). With a scaffolding strategy, teachers of English can develop the ideas that students have about reading comprehension. With QARs (Question-Answer Relationships), teachers of English can determine how well their students understand what the teacher has given them. Furthermore, this study would help teachers of English improved at teaching English, especially reading comprehension because this study discussed teacher strategies for teaching reading comprehension.

Abstract

Through the Cooperative Learning type Group Investigation (CL-GI), this study seeks to improve students' communication abilities. The beginning ability was taken into account as a moderator variable in this quasi-experimental investigation, which was carried out using a 2x2 factorial design. The study's participants were LVE 1 and 2 students in the 10th grade at Vocational High School (VHS) YPM 8 Sidoarjo. After performing several preliminary tests, such as normality and homogeneity tests, a two-way ANOVA was used to analyze the data. Numerous inferences can be made in light of the findings and debate. First off, kids who learnt with CL-GI had much better communication abilities than those who learned with DI. Second, students with strong initial abilities had much better communication skills than students with poor initial abilities. Thirdly, there was no discernible connection between the learning model and students' starting points in terms of communication abilities in the basics of automotive engineering.

Abstract

This paper presents a research study that explores how to improve student's learning outcomes by implementing the Group Inquiry-Based Learning Model while making use of the school's surrounding environment in the context of biology learning for grade X science students at Madrasah Aliyah Darud Da'wah Wal-Irsyad Kijang Island. This research adopts the Classroom Action Research (PTK) approach, with data analysis conducted through descriptive analysis. The research findings reveal that implementing the Group Inquiry-Based Learning Model through the utilization of the school's surrounding environment effectively enhances the biology learning outcomes of grade X science students at Madrasah Aliyah Darud Da'wah Wal-Irsyad Pulau Kijang. This improvement is evident in the assessment results across four cycles: pre-cycle, cycle I, cycle II, and cycle III. In the pre-cycle, the research shows an average student learning score of 63.88, with only 8 students or 30% achieving mastery. During cycle I, the average student learning score increases to 70.37, with 12 students, or 44% reaching mastery. In cycle II, the average student learning score further rises to 75.18, with 17 students or 63% achieving mastery. Finally, in cycle III, the average student learning score reaches 81.85, with 23 students or 85% reaching mastery. The research is terminated after cycle III as the learning outcomes meet the mastery criteria. These results collectively demonstrate a consistent improvement in students' learning outcomes, with an overall increase of 55% from the pre-cycle to cycle III.

Abstract

Curriculum in general is a set of plans and arrangements regarding objectives, content and learning materials as well as methods used as guidelines for implementing learning activities to achieve certain educational goals. Islamic religious education is one of the government's efforts to educate the nation's children based on Islamic religious values and noble morals. The aim of this research is to look in more detail at the position of the PAI curriculum in the National Education System Law no. 20 of 2003; three basic principles are used as the basis for PAI: the juridical basis, which consists of an ideal basis, namely the basic philosophy of the State of Pancasila, the first principle, belief in the one, and only God. Structural/constitutional basis, namely constitution (UUD) 1945 Chapter Religious basis, which comes from Al-Qur’an and Hadith. For Muslims, Islamic religious education is mandatory. The psychological basis is the basis related to the psychological aspects of people's lives. The position of Islamic Religious Education in the National Education system is explained in Article 15 of the National Education System Law no. 20 of 2003; in Article 12, section (1) religious education is taught by religious teachers who are in accordance with the students' religion. To fulfill students' rights to religious education, Article 37 paragraph (1) states that the primary and secondary education curriculum must contain religious education, paragraph 2. The higher education curriculum must include religious education, citizenship education, and language. This means that PAI teachers and lecturers have a strong foundation for developing the Islamic Religious Education teaching process in schools/madrasahs and universities

Abstract

Project-based learning (PjBL) is a learning innovation in which an independent learning curriculum exists. This PjBL activity is expected to be well implemented by lecturers in higher education. This study aimed to determine the implementation of PjBL in Higher Education in South Sumatra, as well as the obstacles and solutions provided. Questionnaires and interview sheets were used for data collection in this study. The research subjects were final-year students and lecturers at universities in Southern Sumatra (Palembang, Jambi, and Kerinci). The results showed that the implementation of project-based learning in three stages, namely planning, implementation, and evaluation, was categorized as very good. In this research, several obstacles were found in the implementation of PjBL activities, such as problems related to time, facilities, and infrastructure, and activating students to complete tasks both in groups and independently, so that solutions from these obstacles are offered to overcome this. The solutions that can be given include preparation of lesson plans, provision of facilities and infrastructure, providing additional time to complete the project, and integrating PjBL activities with other methods so that they could be implemented optimally.
