Abstract

Antioxidants are compounds that can fight the influence of free radical molecules due to chemical reactions and metabolic events in the body. Phenolic compounds work to reduce the reaction of increasing the oxidation number, and are able to reduce highly reactive free radicals, lipid peroxidation processes, and metal oxides that can be obtained from oyster mushrooms. This study aims to make an antioxidant cream preparation and measure the IC50 value by conducting an antioxidant test of the ethyl acetate fraction of oyster mushroom (Pleurotus ostreotus) cream using FRAP (ferric reducing antioxidant power) and ABTS (2.2'-azino-bis (3-3) ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulphonic acid) methods. The methods used are FRAP and ABTS where oyster mushrooms go through a liquid-liquid partition process and are made into cream preparations with formula concentrations of 2%, 4% and 6%, then their antioxidant activity is seen. The results of measuring three cream formulas obtained an IC50 value using the FRAP method of 110.12 bpj, and an IC50 value using the ABTS method of 84.61 bpj. The conclusion was that the IC50 value using the FRAP method (110.12 bpj) had medium category activity and the IC50 value using the ABTS method (84.61 bpj) had strong category activity.

Abstract

Oil palm smallholders, in particular non-plasma independent smallholders, experience significant yield gaps. Closing this yield gap is important to enhance sustainable livelihoods for oil palm smallholders and reduce the risk of yield increase through expansion. One of the key factors influencing yield is the harvest interval (number of days between two harvesting rounds). Although standards for Good Agricultural Practices regarding oil palm prescribe a harvest interval of 7-10 days, independent smallholders often maintain a harvest interval of 12-30 days. A longer harvesting interval not only reduces the number of fresh fruit bunch harvested per hectare per month but also leads to a larger harvest loss from overripe fruits falling to the ground, deteriorating quickly (harvest loss). We followed an interdisciplinary research approach, combining insights from agronomy and anthropology, to better understand farmers’ practices, and drivers and challenges underlying decision-making. The approach consisted of field audits, farmer surveys, and qualitative interviews to explore which factors impact harvest interval. The harvest interval of smallholders in Riau and West Kalimantan ranged from 11 to 30 days. Farmers followed long harvest intervals (>16-d) due to the low fresh fruit bunch yield. However, longer harvest intervals increased potential harvest losses.

Abstract

The level of understanding and misconceptions of Tadris Biology students at Mataram State Islamic University has been analyzed. The tested sub-materials, including quantities, units, and measurements, are adjusted to the Student Semester Learning Plan in the Basic Physics Course. The method used was observation using the 3-tier Diagnostic Test. The 3-tier Diagnostic Test is a question consisting of multiple choice questions accompanied by statements of reasoning and confidence levels.. This method has three stages of student answers: concept answers, reasons, and confidence levels. Based on the results of diagnostic tests on students, it was obtained that the level of complete understanding of students was 23.53%, and the level of misconceptions was 23.53%. The level of misconception is 23.53%. Students experienced the greatest misconceptions in the physical quantities sub-material, which amounted to 52.94%, and the lowest in the measurement material at 5.89%. Most students believe that the angle is not a principal quantity, as indicated by the wrong student answers accompanied by the reasons and with a high confidence level-certainly a misconception because according to experts, the angle is also a principal quantity. Although the percentage of misconceptions is tiny, students still experience misconceptions in each submitter.

Abstract

Thinking styles and metacognition are related as they both have the same space in assessing one’s own abilities. Metacognition and thinking styles have an important role in unlocking the potential of physics problem solving. The objective of this study is to investigate the relationship between metacognition, thinking styles (particularly those proposed by Gregorc), and physics problem solving. The study involved a cohort of 364 students who were pursuing a physics degree at Tadulako University. The results indicated that metacognition behavior exhibited in the process of solving physics problems was classified as high category. The most dominant thinking style was abstract sequential, while the least was concrete random. The data analysis showed a significant difference in metacognition behavior between groups categorized by thinking style. Specifically, the concrete sequential (SK) group exhibited a significant difference with the abstract random (AA) group. These results provide further understanding of how metacognition and thinking styles play a role in physics problem solving. This study contributes significantly to comprehending the connection between metacognition, thinking styles, and the successful resolution of physics problems. The insights gained provide prospects for formulating more efficient physics learning methods that will ameliorate students' aptitude in tackling physics problems.
