Abstract

The research objective was to identify areas with high, medium, and low potential for landslides by micro-zonation on the South Bengkulu–Lahat road, map areas with potential for landslides based on the parameters that contribute to causing landslides using the AHP method, and determine the parameters for landslides, the dominant parameter affecting the occurrence of landslides in the study area. To achieve the research objectives, all parameters that cause landslides obtained at measurement points are then overlaid using the AHP statistical weighting method. The results showed that the area along the South Bengkulu–Lahat road had been identified microzoning high, medium, and low landslide potentials based on statistical weighting from parameters were obtained at the measurement points. For areas with high landslide potential, caution should be exercised, especially during the rainy season with high intensity and long duration.

Abstract

Background: Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the leading cause of death, which affects 17.9 million people every year. This study aimed to determine trends in CVD distribution and case fatality rate (CFR) at the West Nusa Tenggara Province General Hospital, the major referral hospital in West Nusa Tenggara Province of Indonesia Methods: This study was descriptive with a retrospective approach using medical records of patients with CVD at the West Nusa Tenggara General Hospital from January 2014 to December 2022. Consecutive sampling was performed. Data based on diagnosis, patient age, gender, and case fatality rates were analyzed descriptively and expressed in frequency and percentage distribution. Results: Of the 11,742 patients included, more than half of the patients (58.92%) were male. In this study, the most common CVD was ischemic heart disease (IHD) (44.23%, n=5,194), followed by patients with hypertension (24.55%, n=2,883), and heart failure (19.30%, n=2,265) which were dominated by males, 68.34%, 57.25%, and 50.53%, respectively. Females were lower in those CVD due to estrogen hormone which has role as cardio protector that maintains the elasticity of blood vessels and prevents atherosclerosis. Meanwhile, mitral valve disease is the fourth most common CVD, approximately 6.69%, followed by atrial fibrillation or atrial flutter at 5.97%, which were dominated by females, 57.78% and 54.17%, respectively. Our data showed that the highest CFR was in patients with atrial fibrillation or atrial flutter, which was 17.5% in 2022. Conclusion. IHD is the most commonly found in the majority of patients with CVD. The highest case fatality rate is in atrial fibrillation or atrial flutter. CVD prevalence, or CFR, is essential to focus on treatment and prevention strategies.

Abstract

Stunting is a condition of linear growth disorders due to chronic lack of intake and occurs in many developing countries including Indonesia. Stunting is a problem because it is associated with an increased risk of illness and death, suboptimal brain development so that motor development is delayed and mental growth is inhibited, this can hinder the Indonesian government's program towards a superior and quality golden generation in 2045. The purpose of this study was to determine the risk factors for household environmental sanitation on the incidence of stunting in toddlers in Dongos Village, Kedung I Health Center, Jepara Regency. This study is an observational analytical study using a quantitative method with a case-control study design, namely a study comparing case and control groups and then retrospectively examining risk factors that might explain the incidence of stunting. The study sample was stunted and non-stunted toddlers, calculated using lemmeshow formula with the absolute accuracy proportion estimate with a total sample of 100 respondents divided into 50 case groups and 50 control groups. Data analysis with Chi Square test then further using logistic regression test using prediction modeling. The results of the study showed that unsafe household waste management has a risk factor of 3.6 times greater for stunting in toddlers (p-value 0.029; Odds Ratio = 3.632; 95% CI = 1.082- 12.183). Houses with unsafe household waste management have a 5.2 times greater risk of experiencing stunting in toddlers (p-value 0.025; Odds Ratio = 5.268; 95% CI = 1.077- 25.779). Household toilet ownership (p value = 0.400) and household drinking water consumption patterns (p value = 0.338) were not proven to be risk factors for stunting in toddlers in Dongos Village, Kedung I Health Center working area, Jepara Regency.

Abstract

This study evaluated the effectiveness of a bacterial consortium for biodegrading organic waste in vaname shrimp (Litopenaeus vannamei) farming wastewater. A completely randomized design with four treatments (1, 2, and 3 ppm, plus a control) and three replicates per treatment was used. The consortium, consisting of Lactobacillus casei, Bacillus subtilis, Bifidobacterium sp., Nitrosomonas sp., and Nitrobacter sp., was cultured in a medium containing molasses, rice bran, brown sugar, and whole milk. Over a 5-day incubation period, key parameters (TOM, BOD, ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and bacterial viability) were measured. The 3 ppm treatment achieved the highest reductions TOM by 61.4%, BOD by 69.57%, ammonia by 68.92%, nitrite by 67.59%, and nitrate by 62.02% with bacterial viability increasing by 165% compared to the control. These results demonstrate that the optimal dose significantly enhances biodegradation under conditions of 24.3–28.9°C, pH 7.8–8.5, and DO 3.5–6.8 mg/L. In conclusion, applying the bacterial consortium at 3 ppm offers an eco-friendly and effective strategy to improve water quality in intensive shrimp aquaculture, supporting national food security and Blue Economy initiatives.

Abstract

The aquaculture of Anguilla bicollor has significant economic potential, but persistent challenges continue to hinder profitability for farmers. Two of the most pressing issues are low dissolved oxygen levels and poor feed conversion efficiency. These problems slow eel growth and drive-up operational costs, creating a bottleneck for sustainable production. This study examines a combined strategy to tackle these challenges by integrating probiotics (Lactobacillus sp.) and paddlewheel aeration. Research was conducted at BLUPPB Karawang, using 600 juvenile eels in ponds subjected to four distinct treatments: (1) probiotics and paddlewheels together, (2) paddlewheels-only, (3) probiotics-only, and (4) a control group with no intervention. Over a 45-day period, survival rates (SR), relative growth rates (RGR), and feed conversion ratios (FCR) were carefully monitored. The findings were promising. Ponds that used both probiotics and paddlewheels achieved the best results: an RGR of 1.19%, an SR of 100%, and an FCR of 1.09. Probiotics contributed to better gut health and digestion, while the paddlewheels boosted water oxygenation—creating an ideal growth environment. While no direct interaction between the two methods was observed, their combined application proved highly effective in improving productivity and sustainability. This integrated approach offers a practical solution to some of the most significant challenges in Anguilla bicollor aquaculture.
