Abstract

Background; Deviate behavior is very vulnerable and is often encountered among teenage children. Of course, this is the impact of the imperfect communication and socialization process between teenage children and their closest family environment such as parents. This can only be overcome if the family functions are running well. The purpose of writing this article is to survey several writings related to family communication on behavioral deviations in teenage children, Methodology: Conduct a review of 25 articles selected according to keywords, then the sample in this writing is 15 articles of which 10 are international articles and 5 national articles with quantitative and qualitative research types, Results: From the 15 articles read, the results that cause deviant behavior in children and adolescents are: 1. Lack of communication between teenage children with parents, where parents are the most important and highly expected people in the family to be able to direct and guide a child to face his or her life. 2. The school environment also supports character building, because ≥ 8 hours the child is at school with the teacher as a parent and a trusted person in the school environment. 3. The peer environment that has a great influence invites positive and negative directions. 4. The need for religious education and proper religious understanding to avoid this deviant behavior Conclusion: A holistic, religious, and collaborative approach between teenage children and parents can play a significant role in preventing and overcoming deviant behavior in teenage children.

Abstract

Elderly individuals are the most vulnerable group affected by Covid-19. Anxiety among the elderly regarding Covid-19 is an important mental health factor that needs to be addressed. There are obstacles to meeting the basic needs of the elderly, so they require family assistance. The experience of families in caring for elderly individuals exposed to Covid-19 is very useful for obtaining information related to their care. The purpose of this study is to gain in-depth information about the experiences of family members when accompanying elderly individuals exposed to Covid-19 during isolation in hospitals. This research is qualitative, with a phenomenological approach. Participants consisted of 11 family members selected through purposive sampling, and in-depth interviews were conducted for data collection using five open-ended questions recorded via audio. Data analysis employed content analysis. The findings revealed seven themes: 1) Knowledge of caregivers about the purpose of assisting elderly Covid-19 patients during hospital isolation, 2) Family feelings when their parent is diagnosed with Covid-19, 3) The condition of the elderly after being diagnosed with Covid-19, 4) Activities of caregivers while accompanying elderly Covid-19 patients, 5) Moments when nurses motivate elderly patients with Covid-19, 6) Challenges faced by caregivers during the isolation of the elderly in hospitals, 7) Expectations for caregivers to assist elderly Covid-19 patients during hospital isolation. It is crucial to explore the experiences of families in supporting elderly Covid-19 patients during hospital isolation to provide psychological comfort, which can accelerate their recovery. The presence of family support for elderly Covid-19 patients not only alleviates anxiety and fear but also fosters hope and motivation when they learn of their positive Covid-19 status, especially if they have underlying health conditions. Positive and impactful activities by family members during isolation include continuous communication with the elderly, providing motivation for their recovery, monitoring their nutritional intake, praying, watching shows together, and communicating through phone calls or video calls with other family members at home.

Abstract

Introduction: Skin diseases are among the most common ailments found in tropical countries. According to BPS data 2019, skin diseases were ranked among the top 10 diseases in Medan City. Based on disease data from the Medan Belawan Health Center, skin diseases were among the top 10 highest diseases from 2022 to 2023, with 1,751 cases and a percentage of 24 percent. According to data and observations, many households still lack access to complete basic sanitation that meets health standards, one of which is wastewater disposal systems (SPAL). The majority of household SPALs are open and pollute the environment. Methods: his study aims to analyze the sanitation risk of wastewater disposal system variables with the incidence of skin diseases. The population consists of 27,114 households, with a sample size of 100 households. The study was conducted from December 2023 to June 2024. Data were collected through interviews using a questionnaire, which were then calculated using the Sanitation Risk Index (IRS) formula to obtain a score indicating sanitation risk. A chi-square statistical analysis was used to assess the relationship between wastewater disposal system variables (SPAL) and the incidence of skin diseases. Results/Finding: The statistical analysis results showed a relationship between wastewater discharge and the incidence of skin diseases with a p-value = 0.028 and an Exp-B value of 4.01.  Based on the research results, the wastewater sewer sanitation risk index is in the very high-risk category, with a score index of 67. A relationship between wastewater discharge and skin disease incidence was obtained based on statistical analysis (p-value 0.028, prevalence ratio = 1.7). The management of household SPAL needs to be improved, namely with the type of SPAL that is closed/meets health requirements and does not cause environmental pollution.

Abstract

Various human activities in the surrounding area cause surface and groundwater pollution. The people of Ibul Besar III village face difficulties in accessing proper sanitation facilities as they still use river water as their main source of clean water. The quality of the local river water appears to be murky and does not meet the BML, thus posing the risk of causing disease problems such as diarrhea, skin infections, etc. This research aims to analyze the quality of clean water and the community's perception of clean water in Ibul Besar III village. The research design uses a qualitative approach through in-depth interview methods. The informants are identified through purposive sampling, namely up to 8 people. The results show that people's perception is that they use river water as their main source of clean water because there are no other sources that can be used. The local people say that the river water is only suitable for bathing and washing. Some communities try to treat the water before using it by adding chlorine and sedimentation. Based on the results of water quality tests, temperature parameters, odour, TDS, e.coli and total coliform meet BML standards, while pH, color, and turbidity do not meet BML standards. It is necessary to provide facilities and infrastructure to support the availability and treatment efforts such as simple water filtration media from the village government to obtain clean water that meets the specified BML standards.

Abstract

Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM) is a chronic disease with an increasing prevalence in Indonesia and globally. Complications from T2DM have serious impacts on the quality of life for patients. The increase in the number of complications in T2DM patients at Selasih Regional Hospital, Pelalawan Regency, is the main issue in this research. The study aims to identify risk factors associated with complications in T2DM patients at Selasih Regional Hospital, Pelalawan Regency. The research design used is a case-control study with a sample of 400 patients (200 cases and 200 controls). Cases are T2DM patients with complications, while controls are T2DM patients without complications. Case and control samples were taken using a systematic random sampling method. Data were collected from the medical records of Selasih Regional Hospital in 2023. Data analysis was conducted using chi-square tests and multiple logistic regression. The results showed that high cholesterol (OR=206.46), duration of DM (OR=79.62), high blood pressure (OR=22.54), and irregular check-ups (OR=4.43) were significantly associated with T2DM complications. Interventions to control cholesterol and blood pressure and to increase routine check-ups can reduce the risk of T2DM complications. Therefore, there is a need for increased education and health promotion programs from the hospital regarding diabetes management to prevent the occurrence of T2DM complications.
