Abstract

This study examines the effectiveness of the implementation of the prospective bride and groom course (Kursus Calon Pengantin or Suscatin) as a prerequisite for premarital registration at the Office of Religious Affairs (Kantor Urusan Agama–KUA) in Banyudono District, Boyolali Regency. Premarital education is considered an important preventive effort to improve marital readiness and minimize potential family conflicts and divorce. However, the effectiveness of its implementation at the local level still requires empirical evaluation. This research employed a qualitative field research approach conducted at KUA Banyudono. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews with key informants such as the head of KUA, marriage counselors, and prospective brides and grooms, as well as documentation related to the implementation of the premarital course program. The collected data were analyzed using an interactive model consisting of data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings indicate that the implementation of the prospective bride and groom course at KUA Banyudono has generally been conducted according to government guidelines and provides participants with knowledge regarding marriage procedures, religious values, family law, reproductive health, marital psychology, and family management. The program contributes to improving the understanding and readiness of prospective couples in preparing for married life. However, its implementation has not yet been optimal due to limited training duration, infrequent program scheduling, and budget constraints affecting the overall effectiveness of the program.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the implementation of marriage guidance at the Office of Religious Affairs (KUA) of Banyudono District, evaluate its effectiveness in preventing early marriage, and identify the factors contributing to child marriage. The research employed a qualitative approach with a case study design. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, field observations, and documentation of marriage records and marriage dispensation data from 2020 to 2022. The research participants consisted of the Head of the KUA, religious counselors, administrative staff, and prospective brides and grooms who participated in premarital guidance programs. Data were analyzed using an interactive model, including data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings indicate that the marriage guidance program has been implemented through premarital courses, community counseling, and educational programs for youth of marriageable age. The program has improved the knowledge and readiness of prospective couples; however, it has not been fully effective in reducing the rate of early marriage. The main contributing factors include premarital pregnancy, the perceived economic readiness of the male partner, and long-term relationships between couples. Therefore, strengthening marriage guidance programs through more comprehensive and collaborative approaches is necessary to enhance the effectiveness of early marriage prevention.

Abstract

Critical thinking skills are essential competencies that elementary school students need to possess in order to face the challenges of the 21st century. One factor that is presumed to be related to these skills is emotional intelligence. This study aimed to determine the relationship between emotional intelligence and the critical thinking skills of fifth-grade students at SDN 131/IV Jambi City. The research employed a quantitative approach with a correlational design. The study involved 35 fifth-grade students from class V-B selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using emotional intelligence and critical thinking skills questionnaires that had met validity and reliability requirements. Data were analyzed using the Pearson Product-Moment Correlation test with the assistance of SPSS software. The results revealed a positive and significant relationship between emotional intelligence and students’ critical thinking skills, with a correlation coefficient of 0.831 and a significance value of 0.000 (p < 0.05). These findings indicate that higher emotional intelligence is associated with better critical thinking skills. Therefore, the development of emotional intelligence should receive greater attention in elementary school learning processes.

Abstract

The rapid progression of modernization and globalization has triggered a fundamental reorientation of values among younger generations, manifesting in the erosion of students' character formation, while prevailing educational practices are widely regarded as overly prescriptive and inadequately attuned to the socio-cultural realities students inhabit. This study pursues three primary objectives: (1) to examine the forms and dimensions of the character education crisis amid modernization, (2) to investigate the strategic function of local wisdom in responding to this crisis, and (3) to delineate how local wisdom values may be embedded within instructional processes as a mechanism for cultivating students' character. A qualitative methodology grounded in library research was applied, involving systematic analysis of pertinent scholarly literature. Three principal findings emerged from this inquiry: (1) local wisdom is established as a contextually grounded and value-laden alternative within character education, (2) contextual learning approaches demonstrate greater efficacy in facilitating value internalization relative to conventional, norm-driven instruction, (3) the incorporation of local cultural values into formal educational structures is put forward as a strategically informed response to contemporary character deterioration. It is therefore argued that local wisdom should not be relegated to a peripheral curricular role, but rather positioned as a foundational framework, systematically embedded through institutionalized school culture practices and the enrichment of learning experiences beyond the formal classroom setting.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the application of judicial activism by Religious Court judges from the perspective of maqashid al-shariah and its implications for the realization of substantive justice. This research employs a normative legal method with a library research approach. The data were collected from primary, secondary, and tertiary legal materials, including legislation, court decisions, jurisprudence, books, and relevant scholarly journals. Data were analyzed using a descriptive-qualitative method. The findings indicate that judicial activism provides judges with the opportunity not only to apply written legal norms but also to actively explore and uphold the values of justice that exist within society. This approach is highly relevant to maqashid al-shariah because both are oriented toward promoting public welfare (maslahah), protecting rights, and preventing harm. The implementation of judicial activism is reflected in judicial decisions where judges exercise ex officio authority to protect the rights of vulnerable parties, even when such claims are not explicitly requested in the petition. Consequently, judges are able to realize substantive justice that is more responsive, humane, and oriented toward safeguarding the rights of litigants in accordance with the objectives of Islamic law and the evolving needs of society.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the influence of ethnolinguistic background on the code-mixing patterns of students and to identify the factors that encourage code mixing among students at Al-Hidayah Modern Islamic Boarding School, Jambi. This research is motivated by the phenomenon of using Arabic and English as the official languages in the boarding school, while in daily practice students frequently combine them with Indonesian and regional languages. The diversity of students' regional origins, mother tongues, and cultural backgrounds is assumed to influence their language use in everyday communication. This study employed a descriptive qualitative approach. Data were collected through observations of students' interactions in various daily activities within the boarding school and analyzed descriptively to identify the forms of code mixing and the factors underlying their occurrence. The findings indicate that ethnolinguistic background plays an important role in shaping students' code-mixing patterns involving Arabic, English, Indonesian, and regional languages. Code mixing occurs due to the influence of students' mother tongues, language habits prior to entering the boarding school, social identity, communication convenience, and the multilingual environment of the institution. The study concludes that ethnolinguistic background is closely associated with students' code-mixing practices and constitutes an important factor in shaping communication patterns at Al-Hidayah Modern Islamic Boarding School, Jambi.

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the implementation of the habitual curriculum in Islamic Religious Education (PAI), assess the level of students’ akhlak karimah, and analyze the effect of the habitual curriculum on akhlak karimah among eighth-grade students at SMP Negeri 7 Karawang Barat. This study addresses a research gap, namely the limited empirical evidence regarding the direct contribution of the habitual curriculum to the development of akhlak karimah at the junior high school level. The research employed a quantitative correlational approach, with the population comprising all eighth-grade students, and data were collected using validated questionnaires. Data analysis included normality and linearity tests, followed by simple linear regression using IBM SPSS Statistics. The results indicate that the implementation of the habitual curriculum falls into the moderate category (mean = 94.27), while students’ akhlak karimah is also moderate (mean = 83.19). Simple linear regression analysis showed a significance value of 0.326 (>0.05) and a coefficient of determination of 1.6%, indicating that the habitual curriculum does not have a significant effect on students’ akhlak karimah. These findings suggest that most of the variation in akhlak karimah is influenced by external factors such as parenting, social environment, teacher role modeling, and school culture. The novelty of this study lies in the empirical evaluation of the habitual curriculum’s effect on students’ akhlak karimah in the context of PAI, which has been rarely explored. The findings contribute significantly to the literature on character education and provide insights for developing more effective moral habituation strategies in secondary schools.

Abstract

This research aims to develop an optimization model for tahsinul qiro’ah (Qur’anic reading improvement) through a Qur’anic reading mapping program integrated with the talaqqi method at Pondok Jannatun Naim Lampung. Specifically, the study analyzes the initial condition of students’ reading abilities, describes the design and implementation of the reading mapping program combined with talaqqi, identifies supporting and inhibiting factors, and evaluates the effectiveness of the model. The research employs a qualitative descriptive-analytical approach conducted at Pondok Jannatun Naim Lampung involving seventh-grade students. Data collection techniques include participatory observation, in-depth interviews with caregivers, teachers, and students, and documentation analysis. Data analysis follows the Miles and Huberman interactive model consisting of data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing/verification. Initial findings from the pre-mapping evaluation using a reading checklist for 17 seventh-grade students indicate diverse reading proficiency levels, with most students showing notes such as “less fluent”, “needs improvement”, and “still lacking in tajwid application”. These findings highlight the necessity of a systematic and targeted learning strategy. The proposed model integrates diagnostic reading mapping as a basis for individualized talaqqi instruction, enabling teachers to monitor student progress accurately and provide tailored guidance. This research contributes a novel conceptual model for optimizing Qur’anic reading instruction in modern Islamic boarding schools by combining traditional talaqqi with systematic evaluation tools.

Abstract

The growth of fintech has driven the expansion of digital Islamic finance at TMI Al-Amien Prenduan through a fingerprint system and digital savings features. This system supports cashless transactions, effective financial management, and the development of savings habits in accordance with Sharia principles. In this context, mental accounting influences how female students manage and allocate their money, while fintech simplifies the digital savings process. Both play a crucial role in shaping the female students’ savings behavior to be more planned and disciplined. This study aims to analyze: (1) the influence of mental accounting on the saving behavior of Al-Amien female students, (2) the influence of fintech usage on the saving behavior of Al-Amien female students, and (3) the combined influence of mental accounting and fintech usage on the saving behavior of Al-Amien female students. This study employs a quantitative approach with an associative research design. The population of this study consists of all female students at TMI Al-Amien Prenduan, with a sample size of 90 respondents selected using a specific sampling technique. Data collection was conducted via a questionnaire based on indicators of mental accounting, fintech usage, and saving behavior. The data analysis techniques used include validity tests, reliability tests, classical assumption tests, multiple linear regression analysis, as well as t-tests and F-tests. The results of the study indicate that mental accounting has a positive and significant effect on the female students’ saving behavior. The use of fintech also has a positive and significant effect on saving behavior. Simultaneously, both variables were found to have a significant effect on female boarding school students’ saving behavior in supporting the strengthening of a digital-based Islamic financial system. These findings indicate that the ability to manage finances through mental accounting and the utilization of fingerprint-based fintech play a crucial role in fostering more structured, disciplined saving habits that align with Islamic financial principles.

Abstract

This research aims to map the development of teacher competency studies in Islamic education, identify the main dimensions and competency models used, and formulate future research agendas. This study uses the Systematic Literature Review (SLR) method with the PRISMA flow. Data was obtained from the Scopus database through a selection of empirical articles in English, open access, subject area Arts and Humanities, and published in the 2023–2026 period. Of the initial 93 articles, 24 articles met the inclusion criteria and were analyzed descriptively and thematically. The results of the study show that the competency study of Islamic education teachers will develop significantly, especially in 2024–2025, with the dominance of the Indonesian locus and expansion to several Asian and European countries. Methodologically, studies are still dominated by qualitative approaches, although more complex quantitative methods, mixed-methods, R&D, and statistical analysis are emerging. Conceptually, the competence of Islamic education teachers shifts from pedagogic and professional competencies to multidimensional concepts that include digital, spiritual, ethical, social, leadership, curriculum innovation, and integration of Islamic values. This research concludes that future research needs to develop a more comprehensive, measurable, cross-contextual, and relevant model of Islamic education teachers to the transformation of education in the 21st century.
