Abstract

Sexual education within Islamic educational institutions is frequently silenced by cultural and religious stigma; however, this study unveils the potential for transformation through a holistic approach. Employing a qualitative methodology involving interviews, observations, and document analysis in Mandailing Natal, this research reveals that 68% of students, 62% of teachers, and 57% of parents endorse the teaching of sexuality within an Islamic framework. Nevertheless, existing curricula, encompassing 25% coverage in pesantrens, 15% in madrasahs, and 8% in junior high schools (SMP), fail to deliver substantial comprehension (20-35%) due to normative and fragmented approaches. A pilot implementation of a holistic model in a pesantren, integrating biology, Islamic ethics, and guided discussions, enhanced student understanding by 85% and reduced teacher stigma by 60%, with the collaboration of ulama and local elements serving as pivotal factors. This study proposes a replicable model that bridges tradition and modernity, asserting that silence can be overcome to protect adolescents from digital risks without compromising Islamic identity. Its implications are pertinent to global Islamic educational reform.

Abstract

The phenomenon of moral degradation, empathy crisis, and educational orientation that overemphasizes cognitive aspects gives rise to the need for a new approach in curriculum development. This study aims to explore the implementation of a love-based curriculum from an Islamic educational perspective as an effort to present a humanistic, spiritual, and character-oriented learning process. The research method employed is library research, which involves examining the literature related to the Qur'an, Hadith, the thoughts of classical and contemporary Islamic educational figures, and modern academic theories. The results of the study indicate that a love-based curriculum integrates intellectual, emotional, and spiritual dimensions, with the main principles of rahmatan lil-'alamin (blessing for all the universe), compassion, etiquette, and ukhuwah (brotherhood) as its core. Its implementation can be seen in the planning of curriculum objectives, dialogic learning strategies, and evaluations that emphasize the affective and spiritual aspects. This research is significant because it offers an alternative paradigm for developing an Islamic education curriculum that is relevant to contemporary needs and grounded in divine values.

Abstract

TThis study aims to determine the level of learning discipline of grade X students majoring in mechanical engineering at SMK Jayabeka 01 Karawang. Using a qualitative approach with case studies, this study involves the Principal of the Curriculum, PAI Teachers, and Students as the main subjects. The data collected were in the form of interviews, direct observations at schools, and documentation. The results in this study are that the strategy of PAI teachers in improving the discipline of class X students at SMK Jayabeka 01 Karawang is by enforcing every discipline in the classroom or outside the school, giving strict punishment to every student who violates, giving praise to students who are active and diligent when in the school environment, which can improve learning discipline. Each teacher provides advice and offers good reminders to students. The obstacles for PAI teachers in improving student learning discipline are students who are unaware of their needs, students who frequently enter and exit the classroom, and students from low-income family backgrounds, which can result in them becoming unfocused and lacking discipline.

Abstract

This article examines thematic and integrated approaches in Social Studies Education through ontological, epistemological, and axiological perspectives. It arises from the limited availability of studies that explore these approaches from historical and developmental perspectives. The purpose of this literature research is to describe the early evolution of thematic and integrated approaches and to explain how educational practices have changed over time. Using the library research method by Both and Williams (2016), the study follows ten stages of data collection, analysis, and reduction based on relevant references. Through the Publish or Perish application, 30 relevant articles were identified using the keywords "pendekatan tematik dan terpadu." The findings reveal that interdisciplinary contexts provide a crucial perspective in Social Studies, emphasizing integration among disciplines as a core principle. These approaches gained prominence in the 20th century, influenced by Bruner's constructivism (1960) and Krathwohl's revision of Bloom's Taxonomy (2002). Models developed by Fogarty (1991) and Jacobs & Borland (1986) demonstrate their practical application, with Indonesian curricula applying integrated, correlated, and separated models across different education levels

Abstract

This study examines the impact of sociocultural interactions in rural Indramayu on education perspectives, highlighting challenges and opportunities in accessing culturally relevant education. A qualitative descriptive approach was employed in three sub-districts: Kandanghaur, Gabus Wetan, and Bongas, where the majority of residents are farmers and fishermen. Findings suggest that local values, such as cooperation and harmony, influence perceptions of education as a means to enhance livelihoods beyond agriculture and fisheries. However, economic priorities often prevent children from pursuing higher education. Opportunities arise through local wisdom-based education, integrating practical skills and sustainable resource management. Globalization enhances access to knowledge and technology, but it also poses a threat to cultural preservation. This study highlights the importance of striking a balance between technological advancements and the preservation of local cultural values to foster sustainable rural development.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the transformation of mathematical communication skills in high school students through the use of problem-solving scaffolding. Transformation is interpreted as a change in the way students convey mathematical ideas and solutions through writing, visuals, and symbols. The study employed a descriptive qualitative approach, utilizing data from TPMKM, think-aloud sessions, and semi-structured interviews. The analysis was carried out based on the Polya stages and source triangulation. The results showed that students in the low category before scaffolding only met the written text (Wr1) and partial mathematical expression (Me) indicators. After scaffolding, they meet Wr1, Wr2, Wr3, Dr, and Me more completely. Meanwhile, students in the medium category initially met Wr1, part of Wr2, and part of Me. After scaffolding, they showed significant changes: they were able to meet Wr1, Wr2, Wr3, Dr, and Me in their entirety. This transformation reflects a process of assimilation, accommodation, and equilibrium, which changes the student's categories from low to medium and from medium to high.

Abstract

Reading comprehension is a foundational skill in early education, yet many Indonesian primary students struggle with it due to instructional materials that are culturally distant and pedagogically static. This study aims to develop a fictional reading module grounded in kearifan lokal (local wisdom) from Bone, South Sulawesi, using the Four-D development model: Define, Design, Develop, and Disseminate. The module incorporates the folklore of Goa Mampu, embedding moral values and regional identity within narrative texts designed for fourth-grade students. Validation involved expert reviews and field testing in a local elementary school. Results showed the materials achieved high validity (mean expert score: 3.8/4.0), strong effectiveness (mean post-test score: 87%), and high practicality based on teacher and student responses. Students demonstrated marked improvements in literal, inferential, and critical reading comprehension. Beyond academic gains, the module strengthened learners' cultural awareness and engagement. This research underscores the pedagogical value of integrating localized, story-based content into national curricula, particularly in multicultural education systems. It also highlights the role of culturally responsive materials in promoting equitable literacy outcomes. The findings contribute to a growing movement for curriculum contextualization in educational contexts of the Global South.
