Abstract

This research assesses the factors influencing students' decision-making when choosing a university. The study proposes eight factors, such as parental or guardian influence, high school teacher recommendations, graduate quality, colleague recommendations, location, school fees, learning environment, and university reputation, on students' university choices. A quantitative approach was employed, utilizing both secondary and primary data. A total of 330 students were sampled for this study. The data were analyzed using SPSS, employing descriptive statistics for data summarization and inferential statistics for analysis. Descriptive tools such as frequency analysis were used to examine the distribution of responses, while regression analysis was conducted to test the predictive power of the factors. The findings of this study indicate that factors such as parental or guardian influence, high school teacher recommendations, graduate quality, colleague recommendations, location, school fees, learning environment, and university reputation are all significant considerations in students' decision-making process when choosing a university. These factors play an influential role in shaping students' preferences and choices. The results show that these factors significantly impact students' university choices. The study contributes to the existing literature by providing empirical evidence on the importance of these factors in the decision-making process. Understanding the influence of these factors can assist universities in developing targeted strategies to attract and meet the needs of prospective students. By recognizing the significance of parental involvement, fostering positive relationships with high school teachers, showcasing successful graduates, promoting positive word-of-mouth recommendations, providing a conducive learning environment, and building a solid reputation, universities can enhance their appeal and effectively compete in the higher education market. Further research in this area can explore additional factors and delve deeper into the mechanisms influencing students' decision-making when choosing a university.

Abstract

English students who focus on tourism translation face unique challenges that require special methods in practice. Tourism translation requires specific methods in practice. This study aims to investigate translation methods applied in the English translation of the Tourism Brochure 'Borobudur: Inspiring Historical Heritage' and identify the most frequent and least frequent translation methods in the brochure 'Borobudur: Inspiring Historical Heritage'. The results of the analysis discovered that the most frequent method used is equivalence (28%), followed by adaptation (19%), transposition (17%), modulation (16%), calque (11 %), and borrowing (9%). The equivalence method is applied because the source text is reformulated as necessary to give the reader an impression of the text's naturalness. Adaptation is used to adapt the culture in the target text. In the meantime, transposition is used to replace the word class to make it efficient. Modulation is used to change the form of the message. Calque is used for phrases that need no major replacement of the structure and word choices. Borrowing is used when the source text has no proper translation in the target text. Therefore, English students studying tourism translation require unique learning methods that include aspects of language, culture, and technology. By integrating this approach, students can comprehensively prepare themselves to become quality tourism translators responsive to the dynamics of the global tourism industry.

Abstract

The role of the madrasa principal is pivotal in an educational institution. The leadership of the madrasa head determines the direction and is the main indicator of student achievement and achievements. Maintaining and improving the quality of education is one of the goals of national education, and madrasa heads are mandated to make it happen. The quality of learning in Indonesia is still a concern and is far from satisfactory. The COVID-19 pandemic is a scourge for education actors, especially school and madrasa principals, who are leaders in educational institutions to maintain the quality of learning. This research aims to determine the problems, strategies, and implications experienced by madrasa heads in efforts to maintain or improve the quality of learning during the COVID-19 pandemic. This research is classified as qualitative research using a descriptive analysis approach. This research involved madrasa heads in Central Aceh Regency. Based on the results of interviews, it was found that the biggest problem faced by madrasa heads during the pandemic was the lack of readiness of teachers and students to carry out distance learning from home. This readiness includes limited internet networks for students to access online learning media. In general, the strategy adopted by madrasa principals is to implement shift classes and involve the homeroom teacher in providing materials (printouts) and collecting assignments at school. All of this has implications for the role of madrasa heads, who must further increase the level of preparedness, decision-making, application of creative ideas, and risk management to the demands of educational development or emergencies.
