Abstract

This study aims to describe three aspects, namely the level of news text writing skills of seventh-grade students at MTsN 1 Padang City before and after the implementation of the Project Based Learning model assisted by mind mapping media, as well as the effect of the application of this model on students’ news text writing skills. The type of research used is quantitative research with an experimental method, employing a one-group pretest–posttest design. The population of this study consisted of all seventh-grade students of MTsN 1 Padang City, totaling 345 students. The research sample was determined using purposive sampling technique, namely students of class VII 6 consisting of 25 students. Data collection techniques were carried out through performance tests in the form of pretests and posttests of news text writing skills. The data analysis techniques used included normality test, homogeneity test, and hypothesis testing. The results showed that the average score of students’ news text writing skills before the implementation of the Project Based Learning model assisted by mind mapping media was 49.83, classified as Nearly Sufficient (NS), while the average score after the implementation increased to 74.83, classified as More than Sufficient (MtS). The results of the t-test indicated that the alternative hypothesis (H1) was accepted at a 95% significance level with degrees of freedom n–1, because the calculated t-value (14.59) was greater than the t-table value (1.71). In addition, the N-Gain Score calculation result of 0.50 falls into the moderate category; however, the effectiveness level of 50% is classified as less effective. Nevertheless, the application of the Project Based Learning model assisted by mind mapping media is still considered feasible because it is able to improve students’ news text writing skills, although adjustments are still needed to achieve a more optimal level of effectiveness.

Abstract

People's coconut commodities have a strategic role for the economy of coastal communities, but their development is still faced with structural, institutional, and low technology utilization. This study aims to analyze the practice of social engineering in sustainable empowerment in the coconut farming community in Asahan Regency by examining the structure-agency relationship that affects the sustainability of the business and the welfare of farmer families from the upstream to downstream sectors. The research uses a qualitative approach with case study methods in Silau Lama Village, Silo Bonto Village, and Central Sei Kepayang Village. The research informants consisted of six people, including coconut farmers, value chain actors, and village government members, who were selected through purposive sampling. Data was collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation studies, then analyzed interactively through the stages of data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results of the study show that coconut cultivation practices are still dominated by traditional knowledge, minimal replanting, and weak farmer institutions, so that the productivity and bargaining position of farmers are low. In the downstream sector, the coconut value chain is informal and hierarchical with a high dependence on agents and fluctuations in market prices. Structure-agency relationships show that farmers tend to reproduce old practices as survival strategies due to limited policy and institutional support. This research provides theoretical benefit in enriching the study of rural sociology regarding social engineering and structure-agency relations in farming communities, as well as practical benefits as a reference for the formulation of policies to strengthen institutions and downstream people's coconuts. This study recommends the formation of farmer collective institutions, replanting based on mutual cooperation, sustainable mentoring, and the development of integrated upstream-downstream coconuts to improve the welfare of farmers in a sustainable manner.

Abstract

This study analyzes the representation of otherness and gender discrimination in the series Blue Eye Samurai using John Fiske’s semiotic analysis. Employing a qualitative descriptive approach, the research examines three levels of meaning: reality, representation, and ideology. The findings reveal that Mizu faces racial discrimination due to her mixed heritage, symbolizing Japan’s obsession with racial purity, while Akemi experiences gender oppression under patriarchal control as a political instrument. Through visual symbols, dialogue, and narrative structure, the series critiques social systems that marginalize difference and female autonomy.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effect of vocabulary mastery on the ability to comprehend Science (IPA) textbook texts among students of the Primary School Teacher Education Program, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Universitas Cenderawasih, in 2025. Academic and scientific vocabulary mastery is considered a crucial factor in supporting students’ reading literacy, especially in understanding science texts that contain conceptual terminology and complex scientific language structures. This research employed a quantitative approach with a correlational design. The sample consisted of 60 Primary School Teacher Education Program students selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using a scientific vocabulary mastery test and a science text comprehension test. Data analysis was conducted using Pearson correlation and simple regression. The results revealed a strong positive relationship between vocabulary mastery and science text comprehension, with a correlation coefficient of r = 0.72 (p < 0.01). Furthermore, vocabulary mastery contributed 52% to the variance in students’ text comprehension ability (R² = 0.52). These findings indicate that higher vocabulary mastery leads to better comprehension of science textbook texts. Therefore, this study highlights the importance of strengthening scientific vocabulary as an effective strategy to improve science literacy among prospective elementary school teachers.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the effect of using geospatial educational technology media on improving the spatial thinking skills of students at SMAN 15 Padang. The research method used in this study was a quasi-experimental method with a nonequivalent control group design. The sample of this study was class XI F10 as the experimental class and class XI F4 as the control class, which were randomly selected. Spatial thinking data were collected through tests and analyzed using t-tests. The results found that geospatial educational technology media influenced the spatial thinking skills of class XI F10 students at SMAN 15 Padang, with an average posttest score of 84.0 for the experimental class and 62.4 for the control class.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the low writing skills of students due to teacher-centered learning so that students tend to be passive. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of the Teams Games Tournament (TGT) model on writing skills of procedural text writing skills in fourth grade students of SDN Mranak 2. The study used a quantitative method with a Pre-Experimental One-Group Pretest–Posttest design on 24 students, with data collection techniques through interviews, observations, and written tests. Data analysis used a paired sample T-Test to determine the average difference and the N-Gain Effectiveness Test to determine the interpretation of effectiveness with the help of SPSS 27. The results of the study showed a significance value of 0.001 <0.05 so that H_0 was rejected and H_a was accepted and the N-Gain value of 60.43% was included in the category of moderate effectiveness interpretation. Based on the results of the study, it can be concluded that there is effectiveness in the Teams Games Tournament (TGT) model assisted by smartstep media in in-depth learning on procedural text writing skills.

Abstract

This study is motivated by the crucial role of al-waqf wa al-ibtida’ in preserving accurate Qur’anic interpretation, since decisions about where to pause and resume recitation directly affect tafsir, i‘rab, and qirā’āt. The research aims to analyze Ahmad ibn Muhammad al-Asymuni’s concept of al-waqf wa al-ibtida’ in Manar al-Huda and to explore its implications in Surah Al-Baqarah. Employing a qualitative approach, this study applies library research and content analysis to primary and supporting sources. The findings reveal that classifications such as al-tam, al-kafi, al-hasan, and al-jaiz generate significant variations in grammatical construction, legal interpretation, and recitational modes. The study concludes that mastery of al-waqf wa al-ibtida’ constitutes an essential methodological tool in Qur’anic exegesis, as it safeguards semantic precision and prevents misinterpretation.

Abstract

This study was motivated by the low academic performance   of fifth-grade students at SD Negeri 12 Tanah Sirah, Padang City, which was caused by difficulties in understanding Pancasila Education topics, low curiosity, and limited student participation in a learning process that remained teacher-centered. This research aimed to explain the improvement of students’ learning outcomes in Pancasila Education through the implementation of the Cooperative Learning model of the Make a Match type. The research method employed was Classroom Action Research (CAR) using qualitative and quantitative approaches, conducted in two cycles consisting of planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. The findings indicated that the average score of teaching module implementation increased from 89.58% (good) in Cycle I to 95.83% (very good) in Cycle II. The teacher’s instructional implementation aspect improved from 89.77% to 97.22%, and student activity also increased from 89.77% to 97.22%. The average student learning outcome in Cycle I was 72.10 (fair), consisting of attitude (71.03), knowledge (75.50), and skills (69.78). In Cycle II, learning outcomes improved with average scores of 87.07 for attitude, 91.50 for knowledge, and 86.24 for skills, resulting in an overall average of 88.27 (good). In conclusion, the Cooperative Learning Make a Match model is proven to be effective in improving students’ learning outcomes in Pancasila Education for fifth-grade students at SD Negeri 12 Tanah Sirah, Padang City.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of the pair check model on students' interpersonal intelligence in the Pancasila Education in grade V of elementary school. The main focus of this research is to analyze the level of interpersonal intelligence. The research method used a quasi-experimental design in the form of a Nonequivalent Control Group Design. Two classes were used in the research sample, the experimental class using the Pair Check model and the control class using the Think Pair Share model. The research data comes from a self-assessment questionnaire and peer-assessment questionnaire that assesses the social insight aspect of interpersonal intelligence. The results of the study an increase in the average score of the experimental class reaching 56.53% with the category "Quite Effective", while the control class experienced an increase of 23.05% with the category "Not Effective". The hypothesis used the Independent sample t-test which showed a significance value (2-tailed) of 0.000 < 0.05, which means there is a difference between the two classes. Thus, it is concluded that the use of Pair Check model has a significant effect on increasing interpersonal intelligence in the Pancasila Education of fifth-grade elementary school students.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis hubungan antara penggunaan strategi metakognisi dan kemampuan menulis teks eksplanasi siswa kelas XI SMA Kemala Bhayangkari Medan. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif dengan desain korelasional. Sampel penelitian berjumlah 60 siswa yang dipilih melalui teknik purposive sampling dari total populasi 150 siswa. Data dikumpulkan menggunakan angket strategi metakognisi dan tes menulis teks eksplanasi. Analisis data dilakukan menggunakan statistik deskriptif dan uji korelasi Pearson Product Moment. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa penggunaan strategi metakognisi berada pada kategori sedang hingga tinggi dengan nilai rata-rata 76,23, sedangkan kemampuan menulis teks eksplanasi siswa berada pada kategori sedang dengan nilai rata-rata 67,62. Hasil uji korelasi menunjukkan koefisien korelasi sebesar 0,623 dengan nilai signifikansi 0,000 (p < 0,05). Temuan ini menunjukkan adanya hubungan positif dan signifikan antara penggunaan strategi metakognisi dan kemampuan menulis teks eksplanasi siswa. Dengan demikian, strategi metakognisi berperan penting dalam membantu siswa mengelola proses menulis secara terarah dan sistematis sehingga kualitas teks eksplanasi yang dihasilkan menjadi lebih baik.
