Abstract

This study aims to determine the relationship between social media use and students’ learning motivation and concentration. This research employed a quantitative approach using a survey method. The population consisted of all ninth-grade students, with a sample of 60 respondents selected through random sampling. The research instrument was a questionnaire using a Likert scale, which had been tested for validity and reliability. Data were analyzed using Spearman correlation due to non-normal data distribution. The results showed a negative and significant relationship between social media use and learning motivation (r = -0.361; p < 0.05). Meanwhile, there was no significant relationship between social media use and learning concentration (r = -0.090; p > 0.05). Additionally, there was a positive and significant relationship between learning motivation and learning concentration (r = 0.609; p < 0.05). In conclusion, excessive use of social media tends to decrease students’ learning motivation but does not directly affect learning concentration. On the other hand, learning motivation plays an important role in improving students’ learning concentration. Therefore, proper management of social media use and efforts to enhance learning motivation are necessary to support the learning process

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the problems in biology learning based on student activeness, availability of learning facilities, and variation of teaching methods at MAS Al-Washliyah 49 Pasar Lembu. This research employed a qualitative approach with a descriptive design. The research subject was a biology teacher of class X MIPA selected purposively. Data were collected through an online interview conducted via Zoom Meeting on March 12, 2026, using an interview guideline consisting of 30 questions. The data were analyzed using descriptive qualitative techniques through data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The results showed that student activeness in learning was not evenly distributed, indicated by the presence of both active and passive students. Learning facilities were available; however, their utilization was not optimal due to limited quantity and access. In addition, the variation of teaching methods was still dominated by the lecture method, although innovative models such as Problem Based Learning (PBL) and Project Based Learning (PjBL) had been applied. These problems impacted students’ conceptual understanding and learning motivation. Therefore, improvements are needed through optimizing learning facilities and implementing more varied and innovative teaching methods.

Abstract

This study aimed to examine students’ creative thinking skills, the implementation fidelity of the learning process, and students’ responses following the application of a guided inquiry model oriented toward the pedagogical elements of Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) in renewable energy learning. This study employed a pre-experimental method with a one-group pretest–posttest design. The participants consisted of 30 ninth-grade students (class IX-D) at UPT SMPN 18 Gresik in the 2025/2026 academic year. The improvement in students’ creative thinking skills was indicated by an N-Gain score of 0.54, which falls into the moderate category. The normality test results (pretest: p = 0.001; posttest: p = 0.013) revealed that the data were not normally distributed. Furthermore, the Wilcoxon signed-rank test yielded a significance value of p = 0.000, indicating a statistically significant difference in students’ creative thinking skills before and after the intervention. The calculated effect size of 0.877 suggests a very strong practical impact of the implemented model. In addition, the implementation of the learning process achieved a mode score of 4, categorized as very good. Students’ responses reached 85%, indicating a highly positive perception of the learning experience. These findings demonstrate that the ESD-oriented guided inquiry model is effective in enhancing junior high school students’ creative thinking skills in the context of renewable energy learning

Abstract

The primary catalyst for this study is the consistently low level of student learning outcomes in Social Studies, specifically concerning the topic of Indonesian cultural diversity. This educational gap is generally attributed to the prevalence of teacher-centered instructional approaches, which often restrict students’ active engagement throughout the learning process. Consequently, this study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model in enhancing the learning achievements of elementary school students. To achieve this, the research utilized a literature review method by analyzing relevant scientific articles published between 2022 and 2026. Data were gathered through extensive academic literature searches and subsequently analyzed using a descriptive qualitative approach, complemented by thematic analysis techniques. The findings clearly indicate that the implementation of PBL has a significant positive impact on student outcomes, encompassing cognitive achievement, learning motivation, and critical thinking skills. Furthermore, PBL actively encourages student participation through contextual problem-solving activities that are directly related to real-life situations. However, its practical application still faces several notable challenges, such as limited instructional time and the varying levels of teacher readiness in designing and managing a problem-based curriculum. In conclusion, the Problem Based Learning model is highly effective for Social Studies instruction in elementary schools, particularly when it is supported by thorough instructional planning and strong teacher preparedness.
