Abstract

Online media often writes word combinations inconsistently, blurring the distinction between phrases and compound words and potentially causing semantic ambiguity. This study aims to describe the forms of syntactic construction errors resulting from the failure to distinguish between phrases and compound words, as well as to explain the linguistic factors causing such issues. A descriptive qualitative method with a structural linguistic approach was applied, using techniques of direct element analysis, insertion test, expansion test, and substitution test. The data consisted of four news articles from the national news portal detikcom, published 5–7 July 2026. The results revealed a tendency toward noun stacking and interference from foreign terms adopted directly without syntactic editing. In contrast, compound words referring to standard legal and bureaucratic terms tended to be structurally stable and error-free. The findings are expected to serve as a reference for developing syntax teaching materials based on real language error analysis in mass media.

Abstract

The use of gadgets among children aged 11-13 has increased as technology has developed. While gadgets support learning and communication, they can also negatively affect child development if not properly controlled. This study examines parents' perceptions of the impact of gadget use on children aged 11–13. It uses a qualitative case study approach involving 4 parents of children aged 11- 13 from different educational and occupational backgrounds. Data were collected through structured interviews and analyzed descriptively. The results showed that parents viewed gadgets as helpful for school assignments, increasing knowledge, and facilitating communication. However, excessive use can cause children to become more emotional and easily angered, reduce concentration in studies, limit social interaction, frequently cause conflicts with parents, and affect health, such as eye strain and headaches. Therefore, parents need to supervise their children by limiting gadget use. They should also communicate well with their children to maximize gadget benefits and minimize negative impacts. Parents play an important role in shaping healthy gadget habits in children.

Abstract

This study aimed to describe the condition of elementary school students' social skills in the digital era. The research employed a qualitative approach using a phenomenological method. The participants consisted of a fourth-grade teacher and 28 fourth-grade students. Data were collected through participant observation, in-depth interviews, questionnaires, and documentation. The data were analyzed using the Miles and Huberman model. The findings revealed that students' social skills had not developed optimally, as indicated by weakened face-to-face social interactions, low self-confidence in direct communication, less effective collaboration, declining empathy, and weak self-control in the use of digital devices. The dominance of smartphone use emerged as the main inhibiting factor, while teachers' roles, parental support, and a conducive school environment served as supporting factors in the development of students' social skills. Therefore, strengthening social skills in the digital era requires synergy between schools and families through adaptive learning practices and more responsible and purposeful use of technology.
