Abstract

The administrative management of the Community-Based Drinking Water and Sanitation Program (PAMSIMAS) in Bagan Melibur Village is still carried out manually through paper-based recording for customer data, payments, and financial reports, making it prone to errors, difficult to monitor, and slowing down the reporting process. Using a Design Thinking approach, the E-PAMSIMAS application was developed with features including customer and RT data management, digital payment recording, report recapitulation, new installation requests, complaints, as well as warning letter management and service information notifications. The admin accesses the application via web, while RT heads and residents access it through a mobile application. Payment mechanisms remain cash-based with the RT head serving as the billing officer based on mutual agreement between managers and residents, while all administrative recording and monitoring processes have been digitalized through the application. Prototype testing through questionnaires indicated that the application interface is easy to use, the complaint flow is clear, and the information presented is well understood by users. Blackbox testing confirmed that all main features of the application function as expected. Overall, E-PAMSIMAS is capable of improving administrative order, data accuracy, and transparency of water services at the village level.

Abstract

Communicative competence in English depends not only on grammatical accuracy but also on the integrated command of semantic meaning and pragmatic appropriateness, two domains that have received comparatively limited research attention within Indonesian EFL settings. This pre-research article presents the conceptual and methodological foundation for a qualitative descriptive study designed to investigate the semantic and pragmatic difficulties experienced by undergraduate Indonesian EFL learners at Universitas Bosowa, Makassar, South Sulawesi, through a context-based analytical lens. Building on an integrated theoretical framework that draws on speech act theory, the cooperative principle, the Interface Hypothesis, Relevance Theory, Politeness Theory, Conceptual Semantics, and Schema Theory, the study is designed around three objectives: identifying the semantic difficulties learners encounter in contextual language use, examining the pragmatic difficulties learners face in interpreting and producing meaning, and analyzing how situational, social, and cultural contextual factors shape these difficulties. Data are intended to be collected through Discourse Completion Tasks, semi-structured interviews, and classroom observation, and analyzed using inductive thematic coding triangulated across instruments. Because data collection has not yet been conducted, the discussion and conclusion presented here are necessarily anticipatory. The study is expected to contribute a more integrated understanding of how semantic and pragmatic difficulties co-occur among Indonesian EFL learners, with implications for the design of more context-sensitive EFL curricula and classroom instruction.

Abstract

The advancement of military communication technology requires communication systems that are secure, difficult to detect, and resistant to Radio Frequency (RF) jamming. One promising alternative is Optical Wireless Communication (OWC) using laser light, which operates in the optical spectrum and is therefore immune to RF interference. This study aims to design and evaluate a laser-based Silent Communication system using an Arduino Nano for military communication applications. An experimental method was employed through the design, implementation, and testing of a prototype consisting of an Arduino Nano, a laser diode as the transmitter, and a light sensor as the receiver. Data transmission was performed using On-Off Keying (OOK) modulation over a Line-of-Sight (LOS) communication link. Experimental results show that the proposed system maintains a transmission rate of 15 bps. The system achieved a 100% Success Rate with a 0% Bit Error Rate (BER) at transmission distances of 5–200 m. At 300 m and 400 m, the Success Rate decreased to 93% and 86%, with BER values of 6.67% and 13.33%, respectively, due to reduced optical signal intensity. In addition, the system showed no significant performance degradation under RF interference because communication was conducted entirely through the optical spectrum. These results demonstrate that the proposed system was successfully implemented and provides Low Probability of Intercept (LPI) and Low Probability of Detection (LPD) characteristics, making it a promising alternative tactical communication solution for modern military operations.

Abstract

Early reading ability is a fundamental competency that elementary school students must master because it serves as the foundation for understanding learning materials across various subjects. Initial observations in Grade I of SDN 4 Dawuan indicated that many students experienced difficulties in recognizing letters, reading syllables, reading simple words, and comprehending simple texts. This condition highlights the need for an innovative instructional method to improve early reading skills. This study aimed to analyze the effect of the Cantol Roudhoh Method on the early reading ability of first-grade students at SDN 4 Dawuan. A quantitative approach with a Pre-Experimental One Group Pretest–Posttest Design was employed involving 41 first-grade students. Data were collected through early reading tests and observation sheets and analyzed using descriptive statistics, the Shapiro–Wilk normality test, the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test, and Normalized Gain (N-Gain) analysis. The results showed that the students' mean score increased from 45.14 in the pretest to 73.43 in the posttest. The Wilcoxon test yielded an Asymp. Sig. (2-tailed) value of 0.000 (p < 0.05), indicating a significant effect of the Cantol Roudhoh Method on students' early reading ability. The N-Gain analysis revealed that most students achieved a moderate level of improvement (51.43%), followed by high (28.57%) and low (20.00%) categories. Therefore, the Cantol Roudhoh Method is an effective alternative instructional approach to improve early reading ability, create a more active and enjoyable learning environment, and support literacy development among elementary school students. Keywords: early reading ability, Cantol Roudhoh Method, elementary school, literacy, reading instruction.

Abstract

This study was motivated by the low writing skills of fourth-grade elementary school students, particularly in writing procedural texts, as well as the limited use of creative learning models in Indonesian language instruction. This study aims to determine the effect of applying the Teams Games Tournament (TGT) model on the writing skills of fourth-grade elementary school students. This research employed a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental design, specifically a non-equivalent control group design, which involved pretests and posttests for both the experimental and control classes. The research sample consisted of all 47 fourth-grade elementary school students, from classes IV A and IV B, selected using saturated sampling. Data were collected through a writing skills test and analyzed using normality tests, a homogeneity test (Levene's Test), and hypothesis testing with a paired sample t-test. The results showed that the average pretest score of the experimental class was 61.91, increasing to 77.79 in the posttest, while the control class increased from 55.13 to 69.95. The hypothesis test yielded a significance value of 0.000 < 0.05, indicating that Ho was rejected and Ha was accepted. It can therefore be concluded that the application of the Teams Games Tournament (TGT) model has a positive and significant effect on the writing skills of fourth-grade elementary school students.

Abstract

Creativity is an important skill that needs to be developed starting in elementary school. However, initial observations in the third-grade class at SDN Gadang 4 in Malang indicate that students’ creativity in the subjects of Physical Geography and Occupations remains low. Students tend to be passive, lack confidence in expressing their ideas, and struggle to produce original work. This study aims to describe the implementation of the Project-Based Learning (PjBL) model aided by Pop-Up Book media and to determine the increase in student creativity. The study used a two-cycle Classroom Action Research (CAR) method with 27 third-grade students as subjects. Data were collected through observation using a rubric that included indicators of fluency, originality, elaboration, and flexibility. The results showed that the class-wide achievement rate increased from 37.5% in Cycle I to 92.6% in Cycle II, with an average creativity score of 14.04 out of 16 (87.75%). Improvements were observed across all creativity indicators, particularly fluency, originality, elaboration, and flexibility. Thus, the Pop-Up Book assisted PjBL model is effective in enhancing students’ creativity in IPAS learning.
