Abstract

The digital divide remains a significant challenge in education, as unequal digital competencies can limit students' participation in technology-supported learning. Digital literacy programs have been widely recognized as a potential strategy to reduce this gap by strengthening students' abilities to access, evaluate, create, and communicate information using digital technologies. This study aimed to examine the effectiveness of a digital literacy program in bridging the digital divide among tenth-grade students at MAN 1 Kota Pekalongan during the 2025/2026 academic year. A quasi-experimental design with a non-equivalent control group was employed involving 30 students, consisting of 15 students in the experimental group and 15 students in the control group. The experimental group participated in digital literacy activities through Google Meet, Canva, and Padlet, while the control group received conventional online instruction using the same learning materials. Data were collected through pre-test and post-test assessments and analyzed using the Shapiro–Wilk test, Levene's test, Mann–Whitney U test, and Wilcoxon signed-rank test. The Mann–Whitney U test indicated a statistically significant difference between the experimental and control groups (U = 179.500, p = .005). However, the Wilcoxon signed-rank test showed no statistically significant improvement within either the experimental group (p = .083) or the control group (p = .286). These findings suggest that the digital literacy program contributed to differences in digital literacy outcomes between the two groups, although it did not produce statistically significant improvements within the experimental group. The study highlights the potential of structured digital literacy programs as an educational approach to addressing the digital divide while emphasizing the need for longer intervention periods and broader participant samples in future research.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the implementation of religious discipline values in character building of students at the Raudlatul Ulum Banyugiri Islamic Boarding School. Religious discipline is understood as the students' obedience, regularity, and awareness in carrying out scheduled religious activities such as congregational prayer, reading the Qur'an, dhikr, and other religious activities. This study uses a descriptive qualitative approach with data collection techniques through observation, interviews, and documentation. The results show that the implementation of religious discipline is carried out through habituation, role models, supervision, implementation of rules, and management of a religious Islamic boarding school environment. These values have been proven to have a positive impact on the character building of students, especially in aspects of responsibility, regularity, compliance with rules, and increasing spiritual awareness. In addition, religious discipline also plays a role in shaping students' ability to manage time and build a regular lifestyle. The main supporting factors in this implementation include the role of caregivers and ustaz/ustazah, a clear system of rules, and a religious Islamic boarding school culture, while the obstacles found are related to the varying levels of individual students' awareness. Thus, religious discipline in Islamic boarding schools plays a strategic role in strengthening character education, which is oriented towards developing religious, disciplined, and responsible students.

Abstract

This classroom action research stemmed from the unsatisfactory achievement of fourth-grade students in Science and Social Studies (IPAS) at SDN 31 Muaro. Several issues were observed, including minimal student engagement during lessons, weak participation in group discussions, and outcomes in the affective, cognitive, and psychomotor aspects that fell short of expectations. Furthermore, instruction remained teacher-dominated, which restricted opportunities for students to interact, cooperate, and build critical-thinking skills. The purpose of this research was to enhance students' IPAS achievement through the application of the Teams Games Tournament (TGT) type of Cooperative Learning model. A Classroom Action Research (CAR) design combining qualitative and quantitative approaches was applied across two cycles, each comprising planning, action, observation, and reflection stages. Participants consisted of a classroom teacher, a peer observer, and 25 fourth-grade students at SDN 31 Muaro. Data were gathered using observation, testing, and non-test instruments, then examined through both qualitative and quantitative analysis. Findings revealed that the Deep Learning Lesson Plan (RPM) quality rose from 92.85 in Cycle I to 94.26 in Cycle II. Teacher performance increased from 82.14 to 96.42, and student engagement likewise rose from 82.14 to 96.42. Learning outcomes across all domains improved as well: affective scores climbed from 71.50 to 87.25, cognitive scores rose from 74.40 (64% classical mastery) to 79.80 (88% classical mastery), and psychomotor scores increased from 79.66 to 88.33. These findings confirm that applying the TGT-type Cooperative Learning model effectively enhanced IPAS learning outcomes among fourth-grade students at SDN 31 Muaro.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of the Project Based Learning model assisted by audiovisual media on the poetry writing skills of eighth-grade students at SMP Negeri 24 Padang. The research was motivated by the low level of students’ poetry writing skills, particularly in aspects such as content relevance to the theme, diction, and imagery. Therefore, a learning model that can enhance students’ creativity, imagination, and engagement in the learning process is needed. The study employed a quantitative approach with a pre-experimental method (pre-experimental design) and a one-group pretest-posttest design. The research population consisted of 228 eighth-grade students of SMP Negeri 24 Padang in the 2025/2026 academic year. The sample was class VIII.E, comprising 26 students selected using purposive sampling. The research data were in the form of poetry writing skill scores obtained through performance tests administered before (pretest) and after (posttest) the implementation of the Project Based Learning model assisted by audiovisual media. Data analysis included normality testing, homogeneity testing, and hypothesis testing (t-test). The results showed that students’ poetry writing skills before treatment had an average score of 60.90, categorized as Fair, while after treatment the average score increased to 79.17, categorized as Good. The normality test indicated that the data were normally distributed, and the homogeneity test confirmed that the data were homogeneous. Furthermore, the hypothesis test revealed that the calculated t-value was greater than the critical t-value (5.87 > 1.676) at a 95% significance level, thus the alternative hypothesis was accepted. In conclusion, the Project Based Learning model assisted by audiovisual media has a significant effect on the poetry writing skills of eighth-grade students at SMP Negeri 24 Padang.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the implementation of Karo wedding customs and analyze the causes of the shift in traditional values in the Karo community in Purwobinangun Village, Langkat Regency. The study used a qualitative method with a phenomenological approach. The research informants consisted of four people consisting of one traditional leader, two couples who had carried out Karo traditional weddings, and one community member who understood Karo wedding customs. Data were obtained through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation, then analyzed using the Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña model which includes data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results of the study indicate that the community still maintains the main stages of Karo wedding customs and the Rakut Sitelu kinship system, but the implementation has been simplified, such as the combination of procession stages, reduced family involvement, and increased use of outside services in organizing traditional celebrations. The shift in values is also evident in the changing interpretation of customs by the younger generation, who emphasize practical aspects over philosophical meaning. Factors contributing to this shift include economic conditions, education levels, modernization, technological developments and social media, and changes in societal mindsets. Nevertheless, the values of family, mutual cooperation, and respect for customs remain as the cultural identity of the Karo people. This research demonstrates the importance of community education and traditional leaders in strengthening the transmission of cultural values to ensure their relevance to current developments without diminishing the noble values of Karo customs.
