Abstract

Creativity development in early childhood requires learning activities that provide opportunities for children to explore, make choices, and express ideas through meaningful experiences. Initial observations in Group B at PAUD Faza Azkia and TK Cerdas, South Tapanuli, indicated that some children tended to imitate teachers’ examples, depended on guidance, and had limited opportunities to develop their own ideas. This study aimed to analyze the development of children’s creativity through collage activities using natural materials. The study employed a descriptive qualitative approach involving 30 children from Group B, consisting of 15 children from PAUD Faza Azkia and 15 children from TK Cerdas. Data were collected through observation, semi-structured interviews, and documentation conducted from April to July 2026. Data validity was established through source and technique triangulation, while data were analyzed through data condensation, data display, and conclusion drawing and verification. The findings indicated that collage activities using natural materials provided opportunities for children to explore materials, generate ideas, combine materials flexibly, produce unique works, add details, and complete their work more independently. The development of creativity was particularly evident in fluency, flexibility, originality, and elaboration. The teacher’s role as a facilitator through open-ended questions, freedom of choice, appropriate assistance, and appreciation also supported children’s creative development. The study concludes that collage activities using natural materials can serve as an alternative art-based learning activity to stimulate creativity in early childhood education.

Abstract

Language ability is an important aspect of early childhood development because it is related to children's ability to communicate, express ideas, understand information, and interact with their environment. Initial observations indicated that some children aged 5–6 years were still reluctant to speak, had limited vocabulary, and had difficulties expressing ideas and responding to conversations. This study aimed to analyze the implementation of role-playing methods in developing the language abilities of children aged 5–6 years in an early childhood education setting. The study employed a descriptive qualitative approach and was conducted at Fajar Harapan Kindergarten, Tolang Village, Sipirok District, South Tapanuli Regency, from April to July 2026. The participants consisted of 25 children in Group B, with the classroom teacher and school principal serving as informants. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation and analyzed through data condensation, data display, and conclusion drawing and verification. Data validity was established through source and technique triangulation. The findings showed that role-playing activities provided opportunities for children to actively use language through conversations and interactions during play. Development was observed in children's speaking abilities, vocabulary use, sentence construction, listening, responding, expressing ideas, and confidence in communicating. The teacher's role as a facilitator through the selection of themes relevant to children's experiences, open-ended questions, guidance, and opportunities to develop dialogue also supported children's language development. Role-playing can therefore serve as an alternative learning method that provides active, contextual, and enjoyable language experiences for children aged 5–6 years.

Abstract

The ability to solve problems is an important competence that needs to be developed through Pancasila Education learning in elementary schools. However, learning activities that are less oriented toward problem-solving may limit students' opportunities to analyze problems, seek relevant information, and develop appropriate solutions. This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of Problem Based Learning (PBL) assisted by WebQuest in developing students' problem-solving abilities in Pancasila Education. This study employed a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental method using a nonequivalent control group design. The research was conducted at SD Negeri Sikumana 1, Kupang City, involving 60 fifth-grade students consisting of 30 students in the experimental class and 30 students in the control class. Data were collected through pretest and posttest instruments and analyzed using descriptive quantitative analysis and N-Gain. The results showed that the average problem-solving ability of students in the experimental class increased from 60.07 in the pretest to 86.30 in the posttest, with an N-Gain score of 0.659, categorized as moderate. Meanwhile, the control class increased from 61.30 to 68.30, with an N-Gain score of 0.181, categorized as low. These findings indicate that the implementation of PBL assisted by WebQuest resulted in a higher improvement in students' problem-solving abilities than learning in the control class. PBL combined with WebQuest can therefore be used as an alternative learning approach to support active, contextual, and collaborative Pancasila Education learning in elementary schools.

Abstract

This research was motivated by the gap between the role of Akidah Akhlak teachers in instilling Islamic character values and the reality of deviant behavior still found among students at MTs Mazniyah Kota Jambi. This study aimed to describe the implementation of Islamic character values by Akidah Akhlak teachers, identify the forms of students' deviant behavior, and analyze the supporting and inhibiting factors. This research employed a qualitative approach with a descriptive design. The subjects consisted of the Akidah Akhlak teacher as the main informant, along with the head of madrasah, homeroom teacher, guidance counselor, and students as supporting informants, selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation, then analyzed inductively through data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing, and validated through triangulation. The findings show that the implementation of Islamic character values-religiosity, honesty, discipline, responsibility, and social care-was carried out through learning, habituation, exemplary conduct, and religious activities such as Qur'an recitation and congregational prayers. The Akidah Akhlak teacher functioned as educator, mentor, motivator, and role model (uswatun hasanah). Supporting factors included the head of madrasah's leadership and a structured religious culture, while inhibiting factors stemmed from negative peer influence, uncontrolled social media use, and insufficient family supervision.

Abstract

Critical thinking is a fundamental competency for young children in meeting the demands of twenty-first-century learning, yet its stimulation among toddlers (2–3 years old) remains far less studied than among kindergarten-age children. Preliminary observation at Cahya Mentari Daycare, Ngudi Waluyo Labschool, revealed that some 2–3-year-old children tend to refuse exploratory activities, such as planting mung beans, before actually attempting them, indicating limited self-confidence and courage to solve problems independently. This study aims to identify indicators of children's critical thinking, describe teachers' strategies for stimulating it, uncover the challenges teachers face, and analyze the efforts made to overcome those challenges. A descriptive qualitative approach was employed, with the classroom teacher as the primary informant and caregivers and the institution's manager as supporting informants. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and documentation, then analyzed using the interactive model of Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña, comprising data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing, with credibility established through source and method triangulation. The results show that indicators of children's critical thinking are reflected in two-way communication, an emerging understanding of simple cause-and-effect relationships, and participation in discussion. Teachers stimulated these abilities through guiding questions, a comfortable learning atmosphere, and learning methods such as center-based learning, Project Based Learning, and loose-parts media. The main challenge, low self-confidence among children, was addressed through sustained motivation and gradual scaffolding. These findings underscore the importance of the teacher's role as facilitator in building the foundation of critical thinking from the toddler years onward.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the low learning activity of students in Sociology learning in class X 3 of SMAN 12 Bungo which is characterized by the lack of student participation in discussions, courage to express opinions, the ability to ask questions, and involvement in the learning process. The Deep Learning approach is seen as one of the learning alternatives that is able to create a meaningful learning process (meaningful learning), full of awareness (mindful learning), and joyful learning, so that it can increase the active involvement of students. This study aims to describe the implementation of Sociology learning with a Deep Learning approach which includes the planning, implementation, and evaluation stages, as well as identify the advantages and disadvantages of its application in increasing the learning activity of students in class X 3 SMAN 12 Bungo. The theory used in this study is Lev Vygotsky's Social Constructivism Theory as the main basis for analyzing the implementation of Sociology learning with a Deep Learning approach in increasing student activity. This study uses a qualitative approach with a descriptive research type. The research informants were selected using the purposive sampling technique consisting of Sociology teachers and 6 students of class X 3 of SMAN 12 Bungo. Data were collected through observations, in-depth interviews, and documentation studies. Furthermore, data analysis was carried out using the Miles and Huberman model which included data collection, data reduction, data presentation, as well as inference withdrawal and verification. The results of the research conducted in class X 3 of SMAN 12 Bungo show that the implementation of Sociology learning with the Deep Learning approach has been carried out through the stages of planning, implementation, and evaluation. In the planning stage, teachers develop learning tools that internalize the principles of meaningful learning, mindful learning, and joyful learning. The implementation places teachers as facilitators through discussions, analysis of social phenomena, presentations, and contextual learning, while the evaluation includes cognitive aspects and student activity. The application of the Deep Learning approach has been proven to increase students' activeness in visual, oral, listening, motor, mental, and emotional aspects. However, its implementation still faces obstacles in the form of limited facilities, time management, teacher readiness, and differences in student characteristics.
