Abstract

Chronic diseases often require long-term treatment and continuous self-management, yet patients with similar diagnoses may show different clinical outcomes and quality of life. These differences indicate that non-biological factors, particularly psychological conditions, play an important role in disease progression and patient well-being. Psychological risk factors such as stress, depression, and anxiety may worsen chronic disease outcomes, whereas protective factors such as optimism and positive expectations may support adaptive coping and improve quality of life. This literature review aimed to analyze recent scientific evidence on the role of psychological factors in the progression of chronic diseases and the quality of life of patients. A literature review was conducted by examining relevant studies published between 2015 and 2025 and retrieved from Google Scholar and PubMed. The selection process applied predetermined inclusion and exclusion criteria related to chronic disease populations, psychological factors, disease progression, and quality of life outcomes. Fourteen selected articles were analyzed and synthesized narratively. The findings showed that negative psychological factors, particularly stress and depression, were significantly associated with poor glycemic control, increased blood pressure, cardiovascular risk, exacerbation of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, inflammation-related health problems, and reduced survival among patients with cancer. Anxiety and psychological distress were also related to poorer disease management and lower health-related quality of life. Conversely, protective psychological factors such as optimism and positive expectations were associated with better coping, reduced disability, improved functioning, and longer life expectancy. These findings indicate that psychological factors are important modulators of chronic disease progression through biological, behavioral, and psychosocial mechanisms. This review highlights the need to integrate mental health screening, counseling, psychoeducation, and psychosocial support into chronic disease management. Such integration may help patients regulate stress, strengthen adaptive coping, improve treatment adherence, and enhance overall quality of life.

Abstract

Final-year students are in the early adulthood stage of development, transitioning from the academic world to the world of work. Final-year students are typically faced with various pressures such as the demand to graduate quickly and find the right career path. This study aims to determine the relationship between self-efficacy and social support with career decision-making in final-year students. The hypotheses proposed in this study are: there is a positive relationship between self-efficacy and career decision-making in final-year students; there is a positive relationship between social support and career decision-making in final-year students; and there is a positive relationship between self-efficacy and social support and career decision-making in final-year students. The number of participants in this study was 516 final-year students aged 19-25 from various universities. This research uses a quantitative approach with a research design. The analysis techniques used in this study are Pearson correlation test and multiple regression. The research results indicate that self-efficacy and social support have a significant relationship with career decision-making in final-year students (R = 0.448; R: 0.201; F: 643; P<0.001), meaning that the two variables explain 20.1% of the variation in career decision-making. This research confirms that self-efficacy and social support from the surrounding environment play an important role in helping final-year students determine their career goals and decisions after graduation.

Abstract

Transitions across educational levels and the shift into the world of work often become highly demanding phases for students, as they require rapid adjustments in learning strategies, academic identity, and social relationships. When these transitions are not adequately supported, students may experience what this article conceptualizes as a crisis of developmental continuity. The purpose of this article is to critically describe this crisis and to examine the psychological, social, and institutional factors that shape the continuity of student development within educational practice. This study employs a systematic literature review by synthesizing peer-reviewed journal articles retrieved from Scopus, ERIC, and Google Scholar. The selection process applied keywords related to developmental sustainability, educational transitions, and psychological variables (self-awareness, self-efficacy, and self-regulation), followed by PRISMA screening procedures, resulting in 31 articles that were analyzed thematically. The review reveals that crises of developmental continuity commonly arise when students’ self-awareness, self-efficacy, and self-regulation weaken during periods of transition, while support from teachers, peers, families, and educational institutions remains insufficient. Programs that strengthen self-regulation, build supportive relational climates, and offer tiered interventions such as PBIS, self-regulated learning training, and peer mentoring are shown to help maintain developmental continuity. The article concludes that sustaining student development should be regarded as an essential indicator of educational quality and requires deliberate collaboration among educators, counsellors, families, and policymakers to design transitional supports that are humane, adaptive, and sustainable.

Abstract

This research aims to understand deeply the process of spiritual meaning of inmates through the intervention of counseling based on Islamic rituals, namely prayer and tawassul, in an effort to overcome emotional distress. The initial formulation includes all functions contained in the System Needs Specification (SRS) document, while the final formulation includes all the functions contained in the SRS, but with the addition or change that occurs during the research process. This study used a qualitative approach with the study subjects in the form of female inmates with the initials of the hospital, aged 30 years, widow status, have three children, who underwent a coaching period in the Class IIA Banyuwangi Prison. Data collected through in-depth interviews, observations of worship behavior, and analysis of official documents of Lapas. The results showed that the hospital's emotional distress stemmed from the rejection of her father and brother, which triggered chronic guilt, damage to moral identity, spiritual disturbance, and reliance on external validation. Implementation of prayer and tawassul in counseling is able to create a safe cathartic space, stimulate the shift of locus of control from external to internal-spiritual, as well as form a proactive religious coping mechanism. The practice of prostration in prayer requires controlled emotional release, while tawassul reinforces the hope, sense of acceptance, and confidence in divine help. After a week of consistent practice, the hospital showed significant improvements in emotional stability, self-confidence recovery, changes in self-confidence, and a more mature orientation of life meaning. The findings confirm that spiritual counseling based on Islamic rituals is an effective and contextual approach in the rehabilitation of inmates in Indonesia, as it not only strengthens aspects of religiosity, but also restores holistic and sustainable psychological well-being.

Abstract

Child resilience is an essential adaptive capacity that enables children to cope with developmental challenges, psychosocial stressors, and changing family dynamics. The family environment plays a central role in shaping resilience, particularly through parenting practices and the internalization of spiritual values. This study aimed to systematically examine the role of authoritative parenting and spirituality in the formation of child resilience within the family environment. A systematic literature review was conducted using the PRISMA framework to guide the identification, screening, eligibility assessment, and inclusion of relevant studies. Scholarly articles were retrieved from Google Scholar, Scopus, Crossref, and Garuda/SINTA, and selected based on their relevance to parenting styles, spirituality, child resilience, and family contexts. The selected studies were analyzed through thematic synthesis to identify key patterns, protective factors, and conceptual relationships across the literature. The findings indicate that authoritative parenting and child spirituality function as significant protective factors in strengthening resilience. Authoritative parenting, characterized by warmth, responsiveness, clear boundaries, and open communication, supports children’s emotional security, autonomy, and adaptive coping. Meanwhile, spirituality provides meaning, hope, moral orientation, and inner strength that help children interpret difficulties more constructively. The synthesis further shows that the interaction between warm parenting practices and dialogical internalization of spiritual values produces the most optimal contribution to child resilience. These findings confirm that resilience is not merely an innate trait but develops through a continuous, relational, and holistic process within the family environment. This study highlights the importance of integrating supportive parenting and spiritual value education in family-based interventions, parenting programs, and guidance and counseling practices aimed at strengthening children’s resilience.

Abstract

Life skills education plays a crucial role in supporting students' academic achievement, social-emotional well-being, and adaptive capacity from an early age. However, systematic reviews on valid life skills assessment instruments that are developmentally appropriate for elementary school students from a guidance and counseling perspective remain limited. This study aims to systematically examine the trends and directions in the development of life skills assessment instruments for elementary school students from a guidance and counseling perspective. The method employed was a Systematic Literature Review following the PRISMA 2020 guidelines. Literature searches were conducted across four major databases namely Scopus, Web of Science, ERIC, and PsycINFO, covering articles published between 2010 and 2025, yielding a total of 1,020 records. Through a rigorous process of identification, screening, and eligibility assessment, 90 articles met the inclusion criteria and were analyzed using thematic synthesis techniques. The findings indicate that life skills assessment instruments for elementary school students primarily measure domains of social-interpersonal skills, emotional regulation, self-management, and problem-solving, while aspects related to career awareness and contextual adaptability receive relatively limited attention. Self-report scales and teacher ratings are the most dominant types of instruments, whereas performance-based and digital assessments are still emerging and remain underutilized. Geographically, instrument development is predominantly concentrated in Global North countries, raising concerns regarding cultural relevance and measurement equity. These findings underscore the importance of developing life skills assessment instruments that are developmentally sensitive, culturally responsive, and aligned with the needs of guidance and counseling services in elementary schools.

Abstract

In increasingly complex work environments, teachers’ work behavior in madrasahs is not solely driven by formal job responsibilities but also by intrinsic awareness to contribute beyond assigned duties. However, reliance on external motivation, such as additional incentives, may limit the emergence of voluntary and proactive behaviors when not accompanied by material rewards. This study aimed to examine the effect of Islamic Work Ethic (IWE) on Organizational Citizenship Behavior (OCB), with religiosity as a mediating variable among madrasah teachers. A quantitative research approach was employed involving 108 respondents selected using purposive sampling. The research instruments were adapted from previous studies and demonstrated strong psychometric properties, with validity coefficients ranging from 0.92 to 1.00 and reliability coefficients of 0.975 for IWE, 0.970 for OCB, and 0.970 for religiosity. Data analysis was conducted using PROCESS Macro for SPSS version 4.2 to test the mediation effect. The results indicated that Islamic Work Ethic had a positive and significant effect on Organizational Citizenship Behavior. Furthermore, religiosity was found to significantly mediate the relationship between IWE and OCB. Teachers with higher levels of religiosity tend to internalize Islamic work values more deeply, which in turn fosters responsible, cooperative, and committed behaviors within the madrasah environment. These findings highlight the importance of integrating spiritual and ethical values into organizational practices. The study provides practical implications for Islamic educational institutions, particularly madrasahs, in strengthening Islamic Work Ethic and religiosity among teachers through structured spiritual development programs and the integration of Islamic values into organizational culture.

Abstract

Creativity is a crucial competence in vocational education as the workplace increasingly requires adaptive and innovative graduates from Vocational High Schools (SMK). Project-Based Learning (PjBL) has been widely recognized as a relevant instructional approach for fostering creativity through contextual and authentic projects, although research findings on its role in SMK remain fragmented. This article aims to systematically map existing studies on the role of PjBL in developing students’ creativity in vocational high schools using a scoping review approach. The review followed the Arksey and O’Malley framework and PRISMA-ScR guidelines, with literature searches conducted in Google Scholar, DOAJ, ResearchGate, and SINTA databases covering publications from 2015 to 2025. The results indicate that PjBL consistently contributes positively to students’ creativity, including creative thinking, problem-solving skills, collaboration, and the production of innovative products aligned with vocational fields. The effectiveness of PjBL implementation is influenced by contextual project design, teachers’ facilitative roles, availability of learning resources, and systemic school support. These findings highlight PjBL as a pedagogical approach that is highly relevant for fostering creativity in vocational education.
